  • Patent number: 6663125
Abstract: A bolt-on, adjustable vehicle side step for a sports utility vehicle, pick-up truck or four wheel drive vehicle utilizing a pair of rocker panel attaching brackets (20) with an outward-extending integral male cog gear (22) that fastens onto a vehicle rocker panel. A pair of arms (34) having a female cog gear bore (36) and a step receiving hole (38) are juxtaposed on the bracket, with each male cog gear penetrating a bracket bore at an angle accommodating the configuration of a given vehicle and a desired step location. A pair of length adjustable legs (42) are nested together and attached to the brackets. Each pair of legs adjustably expand between the vehicle's frame and the brackets, thus forming an unyielding, compressible rigid structure. A step platform (64) is disposed within each connecting arm step receiving hole on each end such that the platform spaces the arms apart and provides a convenient footstep to assist a person who is entering or exiting the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6646613
Abstract: A vehicle antenna light assembly (10) that is adapted to be removably attached to a vehicle antenna tip (90) as located on a vehicle antenna (92). The assembly (10) is comprised of an electronic light enclosure (12) that encloses a battery powered electronic light circuit (80) that sequentially activates a set of LED'S when the external environment is dark and the vehicle is moving. The enclosure (12) is attached to the antenna tip (90) by utilizing an enclosure attachment cup (32), a central attachment structure (42), and a compression washer (68). The attachment is accomplished by attaching the structure (42) to a lower section (18) of the enclosure (12). The cup (32) followed by the compression washer (68) is then inserted over the antenna (90) and the cup (32) is attached to a cup attachment cavity (60) located on the structure (42). When the attachment sequence is complete, the washer (68) bias the antenna tip (90) against the base (44) of the structure (42) to maintain a rigid attachment.

  • Publication number: 20030208317
Abstract: A method and system for using two-way ranging navigation to accurately determine the location of a transponder platform above-Earth or a fixed or mobile target on the ground or on water. The two-way ranging navigation measurements are used as calibration references, thereby improving the positioning accuracy of GPS. The system includes GPS and a two-way ranging navigation system for taking position measurements of a target. A correction factor is determined as a function of the measurements and the GPS position is adjusted by the correction factor. The method for calibrating GPS using two-way ranging navigation involves taking a two-way ranging navigation measurement and a GPS measurement of a target, determining a correction factor as a function of the measurements, and correcting the GPS position by taking a second GPS measurement and adjusting it by the correction factor.

  • Patent number: 6643268
Abstract: A method (100) for identifying re-routing path solutions for signals within a switch network (10). The path solutions are subject to special constraints that provide the most desired solution for a user. The method applies an algorithm that works by transforming a global problem (110) into many individual sub-problems (112). The algorithm then solves the individual sub-problems (112) systematically according to desired constraints until the global solution is met (120). The method finds a unique state for each switch such that the overall requirements of the system are met.

  • Patent number: 6629099
Abstract: A parallel search engine able to receive commands via a search instruction input and data words via a search data input. The commands received, which are optionally programmable, control operation of a data dispatch unit and a result dispatch unit. The data words received are sent by the data dispatch unit as search data to a CAM module array made up of CAM modules interconnected by a cascade information bus for comparison against pre-stored comparand databases. The CAM modules of the CAM module array provide search results to the result dispatch unit which generates results, typically multiple in parallel, at a result output. Optionally, multiple of the parallel search engines may be cascaded by connection to an expansion bus to form a mega search engine.

  • Patent number: 6606307
Abstract: Methods for operating a satellite constellation are disclosed that utilize spatial diversity and directional gain antennas at ground terminal locations to provide multiple data rate services on a single frequency channel. One method comprises receiving a signal at a first and second satellite in the satellite constellation from a first communications device. A communications channel at a first frequency from the first satellite is used to communicate with the first communications device. A signal from a second communications device is received only at the second satellite at the first frequency, and the second satellite is used to communicate with the second communications device at the first frequency without substantially interfering with the communications with the first communications device.

  • Publication number: 20030134274
Abstract: Methods and compositions are provided for detecting nucleic acid sequences. Probes comprising a crosslinking agent are combined with a sample which may comprise a target sequence which is complementary to the probe. Hybridization is allowed to occur between complementary sequences. The crosslinking agent is activated. Covalent bonds are formed between the probe and the target sequence if they are hybridized to one another. The crosslinked nucleic acids can then be detected to indicate the presence of the target sequence. Also provided are kits comprising reagents.

  • Publication number: 20030125591
Abstract: In a process for the selective production of meta-diisopropylbenzene, a C9+ aromatic hydrocarbon feedstock containing meta- and ortho-diisopropylbenzene is contacted with benzene under conversion conditions with a catalyst comprising a molecular sieve selected from the group consisting of zeolite beta, mordenite and a porous crystalline inorganic oxide material having an X-ray diffraction pattern including the d-spacing maxima at 12.4±0.25, 6.9±0.15, 3.57±0.07 and 3.42±0.07 Angstrom. The contacting step selectively converts ortho-diisopropylbenzene in the feedstock to produce an effluent in which the ratio of meta-diispropylbenzene to ortho-diispropylbenzene is greater than that of the feedstock. The effluent is the fed to a separation zone for recovery of a product rich in meta-diisopropylbenzene.

  • Patent number: 6573048
Abstract: Nucleic acid probes that are susceptible to chemical or enzymatic degradation are described herein. In addition, assays and methods using such probes in the detection of target nucleic acid sequences are disclosed. The target-specific hybridization region or target-complementary region of the degradable probes can be separated via a degradation process from the detectable region. The remaining portion of the degradable probes can be easily detected. The use of the degradable probes described herein improves the signal-to-noise ratio by reducing background specific or non-specific signal generation in assays and methods of nucleic acid detection.

  • Patent number: 6569133
Abstract: A urine management system for human females comprising a novel collection device, a novel conveyance tube, and a novel storage container is described. The collection device is worn by the user in direct contact with the skin surfaces surrounding the urethral opening being held in place by an undergarment. The collector comprises a thin layer of pliable and water-permeable material through which leaked or voided urine passes and that is underlain by a layer of water-wicking material which may also contain one or more open channels for directing and conveying the flow of urine to a fitting connection with the conveyance tube. The conveyance tube, a novel thin-wall, flat tube, contains a spacer throughout its length to prevent the tube lumen from being completely closed and sealed off by kinks or twists in the tube. The tube can conform to the body shape of the wearer, expands as flow rate increases, and shrinks and flattens as flow drops off.

  • Patent number: 6516274
Abstract: Structural and stratigraphic discontinuities are identified in a 3-D volume of seismic data samples in the presence of reflection dip, by first selecting a primary and at least one secondary direction in the volume of seismic data samples. Next, skeleton patches are identified in the volume of seismic data samples, where the skeleton patches comprise groups of connected seismic samples representing seismic horizons in the volume of seismic data samples. Apparent dip is calculated in the primary and secondary directions at each data sample within the identified skeleton patches, creating a primary and secondary direction dip volumes, respectively, at corresponding data sample locations. A filter is applied to the primary direction dip and secondary direction dip volumes to fill in values at the data sample locations not within the identified skeleton patches.
