Abstract: A system and method for authenticating communication from a message originator to a user is provided. An electronic message is identified as intended for a user. A service identifier associated with the user is retrieved from a database and inserted into a subject field or the body of the electronic message. The service identifier may be lexical, auditory, or visual. The electronic message can be an e-mail message, fax, short message, or multimedia message. The electronic message is then transmitted to a device associated with the user via a network serving the user. The presence of the service identifier in the subject field or message body authenticates that the electronic message originated from the professed message originator.

Abstract: A method for determining one or more parameters of a rock sample, the method involving measuring the magnetic susceptibility of the sample, and determining a value of the parameter using that measured susceptibility. For example, the measured susceptibility can be used to determine the fractional content of one or two components of the sample. Preferably, pre-determined parameter information, such as permeability, is stored as a function of magnetic susceptibility (or a function thereof). Using this stored information, a parameter value for a sample under study can be determined, based on the measured magnetic susceptibility.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods and compositions for screening, diagnosis and prognosis of Alzheimer's disease, for monitoring the effectiveness of Alzheimer's disease treatment, and for drug development. Alzheimer's Disease-Associated Features (AFs), detectable by two-dimensional electrophoresis of cerebrospinal fluid, serum or plasma are described. The invention further provides Alzheimer's Disease-Associated Protein Isoforms (APIs) detectable in cerebrospinal fluid, serum or plasma, preparations comprising isolated APIs, antibodies, pharmaceutical compositions, diagnostic and therapeutic methods, and kits comprising or based on the same.

Abstract: A chess-like game involves hidden information. The information provided to a player of the game includes positions and types of game pieces on a) squares that are occupied by game pieces belonging to the player and squares that are diagonally adjacent thereto, b) squares to which one or more of the game pieces belonging to the player can move according to their respective movement patterns and which are not occupied by an enemy game piece and squares that are diagonally adjacent thereto, and c) squares occupied by enemy game pieces that can be captured or put into check by one or more of the game pieces belonging to the player can move according to their respective movement patterns. The information excludes positions and types of game pieces on any other squares. The game may also involve non-alternating moves.

Abstract: System and method for providing a measurement module (MM) interface for configuring a measurement system. The method includes creating a MM and one or more MM interface programs implementing respective MM interface protocols (MMIP) for the measurement module. An MMIP server is accessed and the MM registered with the MMIP server. The MM interface programs are stored on the MMIP server, where they are each downloadable from the MMIP server and usable to program a functional unit on a carrier unit, enabling the carrier unit to communicate with the MM in accordance with the respective MMIP. A MM is installed in the measurement system and provides ID to a carrier unit of the system. The MMIP server is accessed and, based on the ID, payment information, etc., a MM interface program is downloaded and used to configure the carrier unit to enable communication with the MM in performing a task.

Abstract: Methods for treating cancer are described herein. The methods include administering to an HIV-negative patient an m-calpain inhibitor such as ritonavir. Ritonavir or other m-calpain inhibitors can also be co-administered with other therapeutic agents such as a Cox-2 inhibitor, a taxane, or a proteasome inhibitor. Methods for determining whether a patient will respond to a particular method of treatment are also described herein.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for presenting a centralized display that allows a user to quickly and easily manage sync operations for multiple devices. The invention may also provide a layered sync display, in which each layer presents a user with successively more information. The layered sync display may ensure that a user is not presented with extraneous information, which simplifies management of sync operations and allows user to perform other tasks during sync operations. In implementations of the present invention, sync operations may occur without user input, so that the user may continue working on other tasks while a sync operation is taking place. The user may elect to enter input, such as input used to resolve conflicts or other input requested by the sync operation, at a later time that is convenient for the user.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for implementing conflict resolution in a sync manager. In case of a conflict, the sync operation creates and stores a conflict object, and resumes the sync operation without requiring user input. The sync operation can thus be completed without user input and the user may choose to resolve outstanding conflicts, either on-line or off-line, at a convenient time. Furthermore, the invention provides a platform for developing standardized, user-friendly sync operations. In addition, the invention presents a centralized location that allows a user to quickly and easily resolve conflicts originating from many devices.

The identifier may indicate a lineage.
