Publication number: 20130285468Abstract: A power over one-pair Ethernet approach. A data transformer is coupled to a single conductor pair using one or more direct current (DC) blocking elements that preserve an alternating current path. The data transformer enables a network device to transmit and receive data with a link partner device via the single conductor pair. Power transmission over the single conductor pair is enabled through the coupling of a power over Ethernet module to the single conductor pair using a diode that can be paired with a zener diode.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2012Publication date: October 31, 2013Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventor: James Yu

Publication number: 20120179582Abstract: Once a purchaser has proceeded through a check out experience with an online retail system, the settings established during that checkout experience will be applied to future checkout experiences by that purchaser. By capturing and thereafter using checkout settings in this manner, a purchaser can proceed from a shopping cart directly to a checkout review page with the checkout review page being pre-populated with such prior established settings. Furthermore, the methodology allows the purchaser to have a virtually unlimited number of goods in their shopping cart and to have multiple different types of order fulfillment options (e.g., shipping, store pickup, delivery to an organization, etc.) automatically established for those goods.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2011Publication date: July 12, 2012Applicant: SEARS BRANDS, L.L.C.Inventors: James Yu, Greg Franczyk, Jason Ruud, Brian Jordan, Robert Richard Roy, Eric J. Publication number: 20120159060Abstract: Disclosed is a power isolation and backup system. When a power fail condition is detected, temporary storage is flushed to an SDRAM. After the flush, interfaces are halted, and power is removed from most of the chip except the SDRAM subsystem. The SDRAM subsystem copies data from an SDRAM to a flash memory. On the way, the data may be encrypted, and/or a data integrity signature calculated. To restore data, the SDRAM subsystem copies data from the flash memory to the SDRAM. On the way, the data being restored may be decrypted, and/or a data integrity signature checked.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2011Publication date: June 21, 2012Inventors: James Yu, Gary J. Piccirillo, Peter B. Chon

Publication number: 20120072295Abstract: In a database that is associated with the retailer POS system, inventory is flagged as being FSA-eligible and a retailer POS system is programmed to support FSA debit card auto-adjudication, i.e., the retailer POS system is IIAS certified. The FSA-eligible information that is stored in the retailer POS database is also used to flag for a customer FSA-eligible items presented to the user online, e.g., in an online catalog. When an FSA-eligible item is purchased on-line or at a retailer POS, the FSA debit card information is captured and the purchase transaction is processed by the retailer POS system so the customer has easy access to FSA purchases via either channel.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2010Publication date: March 22, 2012Applicant: SEARS BRANDS, LLCInventors: James Yu, Matthew Danforth, Cornelius Geer

Patent number: 8044747Abstract: A system and method for enabling power applications over a single conductor pair. In one embodiment, data transformers are coupled to a single conductor pair using one or more direct current (DC) blocking elements that preserve an alternating current path. Power is injected onto the single conductor pair after the DC blocking elements and power is extracted from the single conductor pair before the DC blocking elements. Saturation of the data transformers by the injection of power onto the single pair is thereby prevented.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2009Date of Patent: October 25, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: James Yu, Minh Tran

Patent number: 7979721Abstract: A pay-per-use computer, or other electronic device that uses local security, may use a security module or other circuit for monitoring and enforcement of a usage policy. To help prevent physical attacks on the security module, or the circuit board near the security module, a second circuit may be mounted over the security module to help prevent access to the security module. Both circuits may be mounted on a interposer and the interposer mounted to the circuit board, creating a stack including the first circuit, the interposer, the security module, and a main PC board. When the PC board includes dense signal traces under the security module a three dimensional envelope is created around the security module. When the first circuit is a high value circuit, such as a Northbridge, the risk/reward of attacking the security module is increased substantially and may deter all but the most determined hackers.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2006Date of Patent: July 12, 2011Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: William J. Patent number: 7956616Abstract: A system and method for measuring a cable resistance in a power over Ethernet (PoE) application. A short circuit module in a powered device is designed to produce a short circuit effect upon receipt of a cable resistance detection voltage. The cable resistance detection voltage can be designed to be greater than a voltage for detection or classification and less than a voltage for powering of the powered device. The measurement of the current at a time when a short circuit effect is produced at the powered device enables a calculation of the actual resistance of the cable on a given PoE port.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2010Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventor: James Yu
