Abstract: Systems and methods for providing object versioning in a storage system may support the logical deletion of stored objects. In response to a delete operation specifying both a user key and a version identifier, the storage system may permanently delete the specified version of an object having the specified key. In response to a delete operation specifying a user key, but not a version identifier, the storage system may create a delete marker object that does not contain object data, and may generate a new version identifier for the delete marker. The delete marker may be stored as the latest object version of the user key, and may be addressable in the storage system using a composite key comprising the user key and the new version identifier. Subsequent attempts to retrieve the user key without specifying a version identifier may return an error, although the object was not actually deleted.

  • Publication number: 20180260130
Abstract: A computing device includes an interface configured to interface and communicate with a dispersed storage network (DSN), a memory that stores operational instructions, and a processing module operably coupled to the interface and memory such that the processing module, when operable within the computing device based on the operational instructions, is configured to perform various operations. The computing device receives a data access request for a data object and determines a first revision number of a corresponding set of EDSs stored among first SU(s) and a second revision number of a corresponding trimmed copy of the set of EDSs stored among second SU(s). When the second revision number compares favorably to the first revision number, the computing device issues the data access request to the first SU(s) and/or the second SU(s) and issues the data access request for the data object to only the first SU(s) when it doesn't.

  • Publication number: 20180260553
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for authorizing a user to access an access-controlled environment. The system includes a system server platform that communicates with fixed PC's, servers and mobile devices (e.g., smartphones) operated by users. The systems and methods described herein enable a series of operations whereby a user attempting to access an access-controlled environment is prompted to biometrically authenticate using the user's preregistered mobile device. Biometric authentication can include capturing images of the user's biometric features, encoding the features as a biometric identifier, comparing the biometric identifier to a previously generated biometric identifier and determining liveness. In addition, the authentication system can further authorize the user and electronically grant access to the access-controlled environment.

  • Publication number: 20180260121
Abstract: A memory system includes a memory in which stored data is periodically rewritten by a refresh command, and a memory controller. The memory has an input/output (“I/O”) terminal, and the memory controller is communicatively coupled by a channel to the I/O terminal. The memory transmits a plurality of commands over the channel to the memory. The memory controller estimates a first total energy consumed based on the plurality of commands during a first sampling period, determines a temperature of the memory based on the first total energy consumed in the first sampling period, determines a first refresh cycle rate corresponding to the first temperature of the memory and transmits a refresh command to the memory based on the first refresh cycle rate.

  • Publication number: 20180262565
Abstract: Systems and methods for replicating containers in object storage using intents are disclosed. A DS processing unit, upon reception of a write request may determine the location of replicated instances for the container. DS processing unit can then generate an intent for each fork, to indicate a specific write request received. The DS processing unit may save or persist intent objects within one of the containers, or in a dispersed data structure. A DS unit or DS processing unit may then check for intents whose operation has not been completed, and when resources to perform the operation are available, perform the operation specified in the intent. DS processing unit can remove a pending intent once the job or operation is complete. A clean-up agent could run periodically to complete unfinished jobs that are pending within DS processing unit or DS unit due to containers not being available for whatever reason.

  • Publication number: 20180260713
Abstract: The technology disclosed proposes a novel asynchronous evaluation strategy (AES) that increases throughput of evolutionary algorithms by continuously maintaining a queue of K individuals ready to be sent to the worker nodes for evaluation and evolving the next generation once a fraction Mi of the K individuals have been evaluated by the worker nodes, where Mi<<K. A suitable value for Mi is determined experimentally, balancing diversity and efficiency. The technology disclosed is extended to coevolution of deep neural network supermodules and blueprints in the form of AES for cooperative evolution of deep neural networks (CoDeepNEAT-AES). Applied to image captioning domain, a threefold speedup is observed on 200 graphics processing unit (GPU) worker nodes, demonstrating that the disclosed AES and CoDeepNEAT-AES are promising techniques for evolving complex systems with long and variable evaluation times.

  • Publication number: 20180259688
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a highly reflective multiband mirror that is reflective in the VIS-NIR-SWIR-MWIR-LWIR bands, the mirror being a complete thin film stack that consists of a plurality of layers on a selected substrate. In order from substrate to the final layer, the mirror consists of (a) substrate, (b) barrier layer, (c) first interface layer, (d) a reflective layer, (e) a second interface layer, (f) tuning layer(s) and (g) a protective layer. In some embodiments the tuning layer and the protective layer are combined into a single layer using a single coating material. The multiband mirror is more durable than existing mirrors on light weight metal substrates, for example 6061-Al, designed for similar applications. In each of the five layer types methods and materials are used to process each layer so as to achieve the desired layer characteristics, which aid to enhancing the durability performance of the stack.
