  • Patent number: 9526091
Abstract: A network management device and method for coordination of self-optimization functions in a wireless network. A network management device for coordination of self-optimization functions includes one or more processors and an interface. The interface communicates with a plurality of enhanced node Bs (eNodeBs). The interface is arranged to receive a request to change a coverage or a capacity of an enhanced node B (eNodeB). The interface is further arranged to transmit a query to the eNodeB to obtain a self-optimizing network (SON) coordination state of the eNodeB. The one or more processors are arranged to determine whether to grant or deny the request based on a coordination policy and the SON coordination state.

  • Publication number: 20160301486
Abstract: Generally, this disclosure provides devices, systems and methods for improved coverage estimation of wireless cellular networks through User Equipment (UE) idle mode measurement and reporting. A UE may include a signal measurement module to measure a reference signal received power (RSRP) of a serving cell of the UE, the UE in an idle mode, and to determine if the RSRP is below a threshold value. The UE may also include a cell search and selection module to search for a neighbor cell in response to determining that the RSRP is below the threshold value, and to camp on the neighbor cell if the search succeeds. The UE may further include a data logging module to log information associated with the neighbor cell, if the neighbor cell search succeeds and to log information associated with the serving cell, if the neighbor cell search fails.

  • Patent number: 9398465
Abstract: A technology is disclosed that is operable to determine user equipment (UE) distribution information for a communications network. A cell of an enhanced Node B (eNode B) can be mapped into a plurality of UE distribution bins. A UE in the cell of the eNode B can be associated with a UE distribution bin based on a location of the UE in the cell that is determined using a time advance (TADV) value and an angle of arrival (AOA) measurement of an UL transmission from the UE to the eNode B. A UE distribution of one or more UEs in the cell can be calculated based on a number of UEs in each of the plurality of UE distribution bins.

  • Publication number: 20160142961
Abstract: A technology for a user equipment (UE) that is operable to connect to a third generation partnership project (3GPP) long term evolution (LTE) cell in a cellular network. Logged minimization of drive test (MDT) measurements can be recorded at the UE at a selected rate when the UE is in a radio resource control (RRC) idle mode in a first LTE cell in a cellular network. A change in a UE state of the RRC idle mode can be identified. The Logged MDT measurements can stop being recorded at the UE when the UE state changes from a camped normally UE state to another UE state of the RRC idle mode. The Logged MDT measurements can resume being recorded when the UE state changes to the camped normally UE state of the RRC idle mode.

  • Patent number: 9264989
Abstract: Systems, devices, and configurations to implement ESM (energy saving management) techniques in wireless networks are generally disclosed herein. In some examples, a distributed or centralized multi-RAT (radio access technology) technique is provided to implement ESM on a LTE (Long Term Evolution) or UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) primary cell network. The technique may factor the number of UEs unable to be offloaded to another RAT (such as a Wi-Fi network), and the service impact threshold of implementing ESM on the primary wireless network. In further examples, an ESM deployment may factor the idle mode state of UEs (user equipment) in determining whether to proceed with ESM activation at a particular time on a particular cell network.

  • Publication number: 20160044660
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems are described related to retrieving data from a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point (AP). In embodiments, an element manager may include an integration reference point (IRP) agent to receive data from the WLAN AP in the first format. Mapping circuitry of the element manager may convert the data from the first format to a second format to be used by an IRP manager that manages a Long Term Evolution Advance (LTE-A) network. The IRP agent may send the data to the IRP manager in the second format. The data may include, for example, performance monitoring data such as a value of one or more counters and/or a status of one or more alarms maintained by the WLAN AP. Accordingly, one or more components of the LTE-A network may monitor the performance of the WLAN AP.
