  • Patent number: 9590917
Abstract: A shared resource system, a method of managing resources on the system and computer program products therefor. A resource consolidation unit causes identification of identical memory segments on host computers. The resource consolidation unit may be in one or more host computers. Each identical memory segment is associated with multiple instances of resources provisioned on at least two host computers. The resource consolidation unit causes provisioned resources to be migrated for at least one instance from one of the two hosts to another. • Publication number: 20160369318
Abstract: The invention describes a method of ozone titration sensing which utilizes an ozone addition to a target solution, detection of ozone using an Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) electrode or an Ultraviolet (UV) absorption photodiode or other means to detect ozone and the determination of the relative concentration of organics or pathogens subject to ozone oxidation which are present in the target solution. The inventive sensing method can be usefully employed to determine the relative concentration of pathogens such as viruses, bacteria and/or parasites that are readily oxidizable by ozone in aqueous solutions. The inventive sensing method may be used to control an ozone (or other oxidizing or disinfecting) compound dispensing system to optimize the dosage of ozone (or other disinfecting compound) necessary to produce a desired kill ratio or to generate a desired residual of ozone concentration in an aqueous solution after pathogen disinfection.

  • Publication number: 20160228947
Abstract: Various embodiments provide methods in which a metal matrix composite (MMC) material is incorporated into a metallic structure during a one-step near-net-shape structural forming process. Various embodiments provide in-situ selective reinforcement processes in which the MMC may be pre-placed on a forming tool in locations that correspond to specific regions in the metallic structure. Various embodiment near-net-shape structural forming processes may then be executed and result in various embodiment metallic structural components with selectively-reinforced regions that provide enhanced mechanical properties in key locations.

  • Publication number: 20150361864
Abstract: Various methods and systems are provided for the control of radiator cooling fans. In one example, among others, a method includes determining heat input to a cooling system and a ram air flow velocity through a radiator of the cooling system, selecting one or more radiator cooling fans, and adjusting operation of the fans in response to the selection. The selection of the fans can be based at least in part upon the heat input from the heat source and the ram air flow velocity. In another example, a system includes a plurality of cooling fans distributed across a cooling surface of a radiator of a cooling system and a radiator fan control system. The radiator fan control system can determine the heat input to the cooling system and a ram air flow velocity through the radiator, select one or more fans, and adjust operation of the selected fans.

  • Publication number: 20150332345
Abstract: People associate with and respond positively to those they perceive to share similar physical appearances. Accordingly, an advertisement for a product or service is selected for rendering on a display based upon a human model having a resemblance to a human viewer. An advertisement may be created with several different models having varying physical characteristics. Physical characteristics of the viewer are compared with each model and the advertisement chosen based upon the model that more closely resembles the viewer. Furthermore, physical characteristics of a model may be augmented to more closely resemble physical characteristics of the viewer. Augmentation includes modifying physical characteristic color, morphing physical characteristics, and enhancing attractiveness of morphed physical characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20140358512
Abstract: Disclosed is a novel system and method to develop computational models of membrane conductances through training a multi-layer perceptron to predict a channel's responses (conductances) to different conditions (voltage histories). Initially, at each time step of the dAPC protocol the current generated across the TCL1 cell membrane is determined by the history of voltages calculated in the model compartment. These data collected from dAPC are then used to train a perceptron, whose inputs are select time points in this history, and whose output predicts the channel conductances measured by the dAPC apparatus. The trained perceptron then becomes a model of the channel, comprising a specific set of historical voltage data points from compartment models provided as inputs to a specific combination of hidden units to produce an output that predicts channel conductance given a particular voltage history.
