  • Patent number: 6950914
Abstract: The relation between a NAS server and a port set with a network address given to the NAS server is uniquely decided at 1:1 so that the processing performance of a TCP/IP processor or the NAS server creates a bottleneck to lower the response. A host computer separates: an I/F portion, to which an address which sends a command is given; a NAS server portion; a cache control portion which processes a device; and an I/F portion which accesses an external storage, and accesses them through an internal network 170 so that the corresponding relation between the I/F and the NAS server and the corresponding relation between the address given to the I/F and the NAS server can be arbitrarily reconfigured according to the processing load or the like.

  • Publication number: 20050198445
Abstract: The storage system includes disk control clusters. Each cluster has channel IF units, disk IF units and local shared memory units. The channel IF units, disk IF units and local shared memory units in the plurality of disk control clusters are connected to each other across the disk control clusters by interconnection, global information control unit for storing management information about the disk control clusters is connected to the interconnection. Host computers and the channel IF units of the disk control clusters are connected via front-end switch for storing copy of the management information. Since the front-end switch reflects the contents of the copy of the management information on routing table, an access request from the host computer can be sent to a suitable disk control cluster.

  • Patent number: 6915380
Abstract: A disk storage system has high throughput between a disk adapter of a disk controller and a disk array. The disk adapter of the disk controller is connected to the disk array through switches. Data on a channel between the switch and a RAID group is multiplexed in the switch to be transferred onto a channel between the switch and the disk adapter and data on the channel between the switch and the disk adapter is demultiplexed in the switch to be transferred onto the channel between the switch and the RAID group. A data transfer rate on the channel between the disk adapter and the switch is made higher than that on the channel.

  • Patent number: 6850998
Abstract: In a disk array system of the present invention, each host or disk interface unit is connected to each shared memory unit through a switch unit. The switch unit includes the number of packet buffers greater than the number of the host or disk interface units connected thereto, and can always hold the number of access requests greater than the number of the host or disk interface units. The disk array system uses the packet buffers to compensate for a transfer rate difference between the host interface units and the shared memory units, thereby allowing connection of the host interface units having different performance. The disk array system improves the efficiency of usage of internal paths without increasing the number of I/O ports of the switch unit. The system throughput is thereby improved, and the support for host I/Fs having different performance is thereby facilitated.

Abstract: A first storage sytem is connected to a second storage sytem, and an external device within the first storage sytem is provided to a host as a device of the second storage sytem. The second storage sytem includes a cache control section having a plurality of cache adaptors, each of which controls a disk and a cache, a protocol conversion section including a plurality of protocol adaptors that switch requests from the host to appropriate ones of the cache adaptors, a management adaptor, and an internal network that mutually connects the cache adaptors, the protocol adaptors and the management adaptor. By connecting the first storage sytem to any of the protocol adaptors, the first storage sytem is connected to the second storage sytem. The second storage sytem selects to execute a processing for the external device by the cache control section, or to connect to the first storage sytem through the protocol conversion section without having the cache control section execute a processing for the external device.
