  • Publication number: 20100278420
Abstract: First order predicate logics are provided, extended with a bilattice based uncertainty handling formalism, as a means of formally encoding pattern grmmars, to parse a set of image features, and detect the presence of different patterns of interest implemented on a processor. Information from different sources and uncertainties from detections, are integrated within the bilattice framework. Automated logical rule weight learning in the computer vision domain applies a rule weight optimization method which casts the instantiated inference tree as a knowledge-based neural network, to converge upon a set of rule weights that give optimal performance within the bilattice framework. Applications are in (a) detecting the presence of humans under partial occlusions and (b) detecting large complex man made structures in satellite imagery (c) detection of spatio-temporal human and vehicular activities in video and (c) parsing of Graphical User Interfaces.

  • Publication number: 20100256646
Abstract: A tool for delivering bio-compatible solid, fluid or mixed solid and fluid substances to an operating site within a patient. The tool has a tubular body or barrel with a central longitudinal through hole and a flow control valve for selectively allowing material to flow from a holding chamber within the barrel through an extender tip to a dispensing end of the tool. A plunger having a piston at one end may be inserted through the dispensing end of the barrel and drawn distally to aspirate material into the holding chamber using a syringe attached to the proximal end of the barrel, after which the valve is closed to retain the material in the chamber. The plunger, which fits into the through hole from either end of the barrel, is then removed and re-inserted into the proximal end of the barrel, the barrel valve is opened, and the plunger is pushed to move the material in the holding chamber through the extender tip and out the distal end of the barrel.

  • Patent number: 7809179
Abstract: A process is provided for inspecting an absorbent article constructed from multiple components. A filtered image is produced from the absorbent article. In the image of the absorbent article, a nonlinear first edge and a second edge are identified at a location where there is a course change in contrast. A center point and centerline of the absorbent article is calculated using the position of the first edge and the second edge. A skew of the absorbent article is calculated. These known locations are utilized to define at least one additional region of the image for further analysis. A third edge and fourth edge are identified at a location where there is a fine change in contrast. The skew of the third edge and the fourth edge within the defined region is calculated and compared to known parameters for the absorbent article.

  • Patent number: 7807454
Abstract: A microfluidic device may employ one or more sorting stations for separating target species from other species in a sample. The separation is driven by magnetophoresis. A sorting station generally includes separate buffer and sample streams. A magnetic field gradient applied to the sorting station deflects the flow path of magnetic particles (which selectively label the target species) from a sample stream into a buffer stream. The buffer stream leaving the sorting station is used to detect or further process purified target species labeled with the magnetic particles.

The ear bud body comprises a ball point with teeth that couples to a mating cavity with teethed groves to movably lock or snap with each other on an ear bud stick. The flexibility of one or more petal shaped fingers provides an adequate level of stiffness for the ear bud when resting therein. The teeth on the ends of these petal shaped fingers releasably couple to teeth on a speaker body. In this way, users have varying size of ears with different size of ear canal cavities and conchal bowls can comfortably use the customizable audio earpiece.

  • Patent number: 7787379
Abstract: Described herein is a flow control scheme suitably adaptable to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP). In an example embodiment, the guaranteed and maximum allowable bandwidths are employed to determine the size of the congestion window. For example, the flow congestion window size starts proportional to the guaranteed bandwidth and increases until reaching the maximum allowable bandwidth. In particular embodiments, a fixed value is used for determining how fast the congestion window increases. For example the congestion window may increase exponentially while the current size of the congestion window is at or below a fixed value, and increase linearly when the current size of the congestion window is above the fixed value. In an example embodiment, the fixed value does not change even if a collision is detected and the current amount of unacknowledged data allowed is reset to an initial value.

  • Publication number: 20100184838
Abstract: Adenovirus (Ad) vectors are here provided for treatment of ocular tissues as are suitable methods to transduce photoreceptor (PR) cells, the tissue associated with degeneration. Expression from CMV or chicken beta actin (CBA) promoters in neural retina were compared, and CBA was found to be 173-fold more potent than CMV. Further, the RGD domain in Ad penton was found to play a key role in RPE tropism. Deletion of the RGD domain coupled with the CBA promoter permitted transgene expression in neural retina approximately 667-fold more efficiently than with prior Ad5 vectors. Use of Ad vectors in combination with a 4.7 kb rhodopsin promoter enabled transgene expression exclusively in photoreceptor cells in vivo.
