  • Patent number: 8545134
Abstract: A milling or boring tool has a main tool body rotatable about a tool axis and a cutting element which can be fastened to the main tool body and which has a cutting portion or a cutting insert seat for receiving a cutting insert. To provide a fastening system for fastening the cutting element to the main tool body, which is to be easily implemented at low cost, which allows highly accurate positioning of the cutting element on the main tool body, and which permits very rapid exchange of the cutting element, a centering pin is arranged parallel to the boring axis with an axis that does not coincide with the tool axis and is connected on one part, the main tool body or the cutting element, and a corresponding centering opening is provided on the other part, the cutting element or the main tool body.

  • Publication number: 20130229908
Abstract: A system and method for transmitting data over a channel, in which the data are categorized in at least two different categories. For example, the data are categorized according to the effect on perceived degradation on the data when error mitigation is performed on the data. Corrupted data of the first category are replaced using a first replacement method, such as retransmission and forward error correction. The corrupted data of the second category are replaced using a second replacement method different from the first replacement method, e.g., error mitigation or interpolation.

  • Publication number: 20130209188
Abstract: Machining tool comprising a main tool body, a slider element received at least partially in an opening in the main tool body and movable relative thereto in an adjustment direction between a first and second position, and a drive shaft having two threaded portions, wherein the first threaded portion of the drive shaft cooperates with the threaded portion of the slider element and the second threaded portion of the drive shaft cooperates with the threaded portion of the main body so that upon rotation of the drive shaft about its axis the slider element moves relative to the main body between the first and second positions. Ultrafine adjustment of the slider element is possible in almost zero-backlash fashion in relation to the main tool body in both adjustment directions by providing a spring element engaging the slider element and biased in the direction of one of the two positions.

  • Patent number: 8506211
Abstract: The invention concerns a boring tool comprising a main tool body and a tool holder which is adjustable relative thereto, as well as a counterweight coupled to the tool holder in such a way that upon a movement of the tool holder in one direction a movement of the counterweight occurs substantially in the opposite direction, wherein both the tool holder and also the counterweight are respectively arranged at least in part in a bore in the main tool body. To provide a boring tool of the above-mentioned kind which is suitable in particular for high rotary speeds, which is advantageous in terms of manufacture and which in addition provides a reliable precise balancing function, it is proposed in accordance with the invention that a tool holder and a counterweight are arranged in the same bore in the main tool body.

  • Patent number: 8466575
Abstract: Deployed laterally (broadside to the waves), this power plant hydraulically converts the breadth of waves into electricity. Costly hydraulic motors, generators Etc. need not be duplicated for each unit in series. Depleted waves break gently. Sand put into suspension by the turbulent release of energy from waves crashing onto un-harvested beaches, carried by the alongshore current to calm water, settles and remains. Replenishment is the natural by-product of wave energy conversion, avoiding costly, environmentally intrusive dredging and pumping. At sea, extensions aid energy harvesting from swells. In series, it defends against oil spills Etc. from washing up onto beaches. Free floating, easily removed for maintenance when tourism takes priority over energy, beach replenishment and oil spill protection. When the series is to be transported over long distances at sea, inclined planes can be pivoted 90 degrees enabling the series to be self-propelled by the swells to its new site.

  • Patent number: 8465788
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a particular arabinoxylan (“AX”) preparation and the finding that this preparation has a beneficial effect on the organization of the intestinal microbial community in the lumen and in particular at the site of the gut mucosa, where it modulates the barrier function of the intestinal surface, primarily by modulating the mucosa-associated microbial community towards a relative increase of health beneficial bacteria, such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. It is accordingly a first aspect of the present invention to provide said arabinoxylan preparation characterized in comprising isolated water-soluble arabinoxylans and the use thereof to improve functioning (e.g. barrier function) of the intestinal epithelium.

  • Publication number: 20130120199
Abstract: A fringe-effect antenna module includes coupling structure configured to couple the module to a communications vault that is disposed substantially at ground level. A support structure (which preferably includes an electronics unit) is coupled to the coupling structure, and at least one antenna element is coupled to the support structure. A metallic deflector is coupled to at least one of (i) the coupling structure and (ii) the support structure. The metallic deflector has an edge that is positioned substantially parallel to the ground so as to cause a fringe effect upon the RF signals of the antenna to cause those RF signals to bend in a direction toward the ground.

  • Publication number: 20130080559
Abstract: A storage area network (SAN)-attached storage system architecture is disclosed. The storage system provides strongly consistent distributed storage communication protocol semantics, such as SCSI target semantics. The system includes a mechanism for presenting a single distributed logical unit, comprising one or more logical sub-units, as a single logical unit of storage to a host system by associating each of the logical sub-units that make up the single distributed logical unit with a single host visible identifier that corresponds to the single distributed logical unit. The system further includes mechanisms to maintain consistent context information for each of the logical sub-units such that the logical sub-units are not visible to a host system as separate entities from the single distributed logical unit.

  • Patent number: 8326798
Abstract: A replication operation service migrates data from a source volume having a source file system type to a destination volume having a destination file system type, where the source file system type may be different from the destination file system type. The replication operation is completed without interrupting the operations of a client device in the system. A stable copy of the source file system is generated on the source volume. A file system agnostic representation of a portion of the data in the source volume is generated from the stable copy. The representation is transmitted to the destination volume where it is converted to conform to the destination file system type.

  • Patent number: 8262359
Abstract: A turbine diaphragm includes an annulus of static blades and an outer diaphragm ring surrounding the annulus of static blades and welded to the outer platforms. Each static blade has an inner platform, an aerofoil, and an outer platform. The inner platforms serve the function of an inner diaphragm ring, thereby reducing material and manufacturing costs. Furthermore, confronting edges of the inner platforms have an interference fit with each other and the aerofoils are in a state of torsional stress between the inner and outer platforms. The latter two features improve the dynamic characteristics of the diaphragm.
