  • Publication number: 20080229754
Abstract: A method for multi-objective fault accommodation using predictive modeling is disclosed. The method includes using a simulated machine that simulates a faulted actual machine, and using a simulated controller that simulates an actual controller. A multi-objective optimization process is performed, based on specified control settings for the simulated controller and specified operational scenarios for the simulated machine controlled by the simulated controller, to generate a Pareto frontier-based solution space relating performance of the simulated machine to settings of the simulated controller, including adjustment to the operational scenarios to represent a fault condition of the simulated machine.

  • Publication number: 20080235778
Abstract: An access network element provides user equipment access to a network comprising a centralised authentication server. The access network element comprises an authentication processor which authenticates the access network element at the centralised authentication server. In addition, the access network element authenticates a first user equipment in response to the authentication of the access network element by the centralised authentication server. A communication processor supports a peer-to-peer first communication session for the first user equipment and a peer-to-peer second communication session with a second access network element which supports a peer-to-peer communication session with a second user equipment. Peer-to-peer communication between the first and second user equipments is supported by exchanging data between the first communication session and the second communication session.

  • Publication number: 20080235461
Abstract: A bridge includes a memory to establish a transaction table and write combining windows. Each write combining window is associated with a cache line and is subdivided into subwindows; and each of the subwindows is associated with a partial cache line. The bridge includes a controller to determine whether an incoming partial write transaction conflicts with a transaction stored in the transaction table. If a conflict occurs, the controller uses the write combining windows to combine the partial write transaction with another partial write transaction if one of the partial write combining windows is available. The controller issues a retry signal to a processor originating the partial write transaction if none of the partial write combining windows are available.

  • Publication number: 20080225741
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving label data that indicates all interface labels that belong to each path ID of multiple path IDs associated with corresponding multiple paths between provider edge nodes in a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. Each interface label is associated with a network interface on a node in the MPLS network. Based on the label data, an untested list that holds data that indicates all unique interface labels is generated. A tested interface selected from the untested list is scheduled for testing. After scheduling, the interface label of the tested interface is removed from the untested list. It is determined whether the untested list still includes data for at least one interface label. If not, then a test of the MPLS network is completed without testing every path end to end, thus conserving network resources.

  • Publication number: 20080228963
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for inputting user-selected settings to a second consumer electronic device. The method begins by establishing a first communication path between a first consumer electronic device and the second consumer electronic device. The first communication path is configured to transfer content to be rendered by at least one of the devices. The first device is queried over the first communication path to identify user-selected settings established in the first device that are applicable to the second device. In response to the query, the applicable user-selected settings are transferred over the first communication path from the first device to the second device. The transferred applicable user-selected settings are stored in respective fields of a settings database associated with the second device.

  • Publication number: 20080219281
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for aggregating communication channels. In one exemplary embodiment an aggregation device is required only on one side of the set of communication channels being aggregated. Advantageously, no modifications to the source and/or destination of data transfers are required for operation of the invention. In one embodiment utilized for data transfers in the downstream direction, object download requests can be fulfilled by sending a sequence of partial download requests through the set of communication channels being aggregated, and forwarding the resulting partial data objects received to the original requester in the proper order. In another embodiment utilized for upstream data transfers, traffic is bifurcated to travel along a set of communication channels, and the bifurcated traffic is reassembled either at the network layer or the transport layer.

  • Publication number: 20080210370
Abstract: The present invention is directed to the creation of macroscopic materials and objects comprising aligned nanotube segments. The invention entails aligning single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) segments that are suspended in a fluid medium and then removing the aligned segments from suspension in a way that macroscopic, ordered assemblies of SWNT are formed. The invention is further directed to controlling the natural proclivity or nanotube segments to self assemble into or ordered structures by modifying the environment of the nanotubes and the history of that environment prior to and during the process. The materials and objects are “macroscopic” in that they are large enough to be seen without the aid of a microscope or of the dimensions of such objects.

  • Publication number: 20080212665
Abstract: A system is presented that monitors the quality of a communications channel with mirror receivers. A first receiver and a second receiver, coupled in parallel with the first receiver, receive a data signal transmitted over the communications channel. The second receiver generates an output signal. A signal integrity (SI) processor manipulates the output signal in order to determine the quality of the communications channel. The SI processor samples a phase-shifted version of the output signal, which has a phase shifted relative to a zero reference phase, and analyzes the phase-shifted version of the output signal for bit errors. In an embodiment, the SI processor manipulates the output signal to extract an eye diagram indicative of the quality of the communications channel. The SI processor non-intrusively determines the quality of the communications channel using the second receiver.
