  • Publication number: 20140252990
Abstract: An electronic system and method includes a controller to control a switching power converter in at least two different modes of operation, a normal mode and an error reduction mode. The controller controls an amount of charge pushed (i.e. delivered) by the switching power converter to a load to reduce a charge quantization error. The charge quantization error represents an amount of charge pushed to the load beyond a target charge amount. The controller determines an amount of charge to be pushed to the toad. Based on the amount of charge to be pushed to the load, the controller generates a current control signal that controls a current control switch in the switching power converter. Determination of the control signal depends on whether the controller is operating in normal mode or error reduction mode. The controller attempts to reduce the charge quantization error to avoid power fluctuations.

  • Patent number: 8831671
Abstract: A small base node such as a Home Base Node (HNB), or femto cell, may reduce its transmit power in order to prevent co-channel or adjacent channel interference, or to limit its coverage area. Once the power is set, the HNB signal to a served Home User Equipment (HUE) its transmit Common Pilot Channel (CPICH) transmit power for accurate path loss estimation. When this power is outside of the permissible range, the HNB adjusts other parameters (such as Random Access Channel (RACH) constant value) to compensate for the error in signaled CPICH power, and thus compensate in that process the error in determining path loss. Similarly, if the uplink sensitivity is adjusted, to prevent interference, parameters would also be adjusted and signaled to the HUE to reflect the link imbalance.

  • Publication number: 20140247724
Abstract: A network device may make a determination that a first backhaul connection, which serves a first base station, is congested and that a second backhaul connection, which serves a second base station, is not congested. This determination may be made based on a first periodic data cap imposed on the first backhaul connection, a traffic load on the first backhaul connection, a second periodic data cap imposed on the second backhaul connection, and a traffic load on the second backhaul connection. In response to the determination, the network device may configure a value of a cellular communication parameter utilized by one or both of the base stations. The configuration may comprise periodic adjustments of the value of the cellular communication parameter. The periodic adjustments may cause one or more mobile devices to be cyclically handed-over between the first base station and the second base station.

  • Patent number: 8825044
Abstract: A wireless communication device (WCD) may be able to acquire wireless service from preferred wireless coverage areas that are managed by the WCD's service provider. In some cases, the WCD may instead use wireless service from non-preferred wireless coverage areas of the service provider's roaming partners. In order to save roaming fees, the service provider's RAN may determine when the WCD is likely to roam to a non-preferred wireless coverage area. In response to this determination, the RAN may transmit a redirect message to the WCD, causing the WCD to switch from one preferred wireless coverage area to another preferred wireless coverage area. In some situations, the RAN may transmit such a redirect message because the WCD has reported that it has a low remaining battery life.

  • Patent number: 8811227
Abstract: A Fiber Channel (FC) switch and related methods are provided for merging the FC switch with an existing FC network. During a merge process of a stand-alone switch with an FC network, a first Exchange Fabric Parameters (EFP) frame is sent from the stand-alone switch to an FC switch in the existing FC network. The first EFP frame has an empty domain identifier (ID) list. The stand-alone switch receives a second EFP frame from the FC switch. The second EFP frame contains a domain ID list of domain IDs already in use in the FC network. The stand-alone switch compares the domain ID list in the second EFP frame with a stored list of one or more domain IDs associated with the stand-alone switch to determine if there is a domain ID overlap or conflict. If no conflict is detected, the stand-alone switch merges with the existing network without initiating a Build Fabric phase or a Principal Switch Selection phase that could cause disruption of traffic in the network.

  • Patent number: 8813186
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media provide a requesting device with access to a service. In one implementation, a server receives a request to access a service, and the request includes a device type identifier of a device requesting access to the service. The server extracts the device type identifier from the request and determines a corresponding device type for the requesting device. An authentication module is selected from a plurality of authentication modules based on the device type identifier, and the selected authentication module implements an authentication scheme for the device type of the requesting device. The server authenticates the request using the selected authentication module to determine whether the requesting device is permitted to access the service, and provides access to the service based on at least a determination that the requesting device is authorized to access the service.

  • Patent number: 8811975
Abstract: A wireless communication device (WCD) may transmit a first sequence of access probe messages to a radio access network (RAN) via a first wireless coverage area. The WCD may then transmit a second sequence of access probe messages to the RAN via a second wireless coverage area. Based on the first wireless coverage area being more preferable to the WCD than the second wireless coverage area, the WCD may use a negative inter-sequence power step for the power levels at which the WCD transmits the access probe messages of the first and second sequences. Thus, the WCD may transmit the first access probe message of the second sequence at a lower power than the first access probe message of the first sequence.
