  • Publication number: 20140065321
Abstract: The described embodiments relate generally to the singulation of circuits and more particularly to a method of cutting of a polymer substrate that is overlaid with a conductive element and a passivation layer. In one embodiment, the passivation layer is applied selectively to the polymer substrate in an area covering the conductive element and extending at least a first distance past an outer edge of the conductive element. Then, a cutting operation is performed along a cutting path located a second distance from an outer edge of the passivation layer. The second distance is a minimum distance between the edge of the passivation layer and the cutting path that prevents a load applied at the second distance from causing a stress crack in the passivation layer.

  • Publication number: 20140064083
Abstract: A network device may make a determination that a first backhaul connection, which serves a first base station, is congested and that a second backhaul connection, which serves a second base station, is not congested. This determination may be made based on a first periodic data cap imposed (on the first backhaul connection, a traffic load on the first backhaul connection, a second periodic data cap imposed on the second backhaul connection, and a traffic load on the second backhaul connection. In response to the determination, the network device may configure a value of a cellular communication parameter utilized by one or both of the base stations. The configuration may comprise periodic adjustments of the value of the cellular communication parameter. The periodic adjustments may cause one or more mobile devices to be cyclically handed-over between the first base station and the second base station.

  • Publication number: 20140063241
Abstract: A multi-view stereo approach generates an inventory of objects located on an object holder. An object may be a sample tube and an object holder may be a tube rack as used in lab automation for healthcare diagnostics. A processor performs 3D tracking of the object holder and the geo-metric analysis of multiple images generated by a calibrated camera. A homography mapping between images is utilized to warp a second image to a viewpoint of a first image. Plane induced parallax causes a normalized cross-correlation score between the first image and the warped second image of a location on the holder that has an object that is significantly different from a normalized cross-correlation score of a location that has not an object and enables the processor to infer tube inventory and absence or presence of a tube at a location in a rack.

  • Publication number: 20140066006
Abstract: A network device connected to a base station via a backhaul connection may be operable to determine whether the backhaul connection is congested. The determination may be based on a periodic data cap imposed on the backhaul connections. In response to a determination that the backhaul connection is congested, the network device may configure one or more cellular communication parameters of one or more of the plurality of base stations. The determination may be based on one or more of: a total amount of data consumed over the backhaul connection during a current time period, a traffic load on the backhaul connection, and an amount of time remaining in the current time period.

  • Patent number: 8663160
Abstract: A priming indicator for a fluid infusion system includes a luer cap or other component of the infusion system having an indicator surface covered by a membrane. The membrane exhibits a first visual characteristic, such as being opaque, when dry and exhibits a second characteristic, such as becoming less opaque, when wet. Once the membrane becomes wet, indicia on the surface, which may be provided on a rod at least partially covered by the membrane, becomes visible, thereby indicating an intravenous tube to which the luer cap is secured has been primed or is nearly primed. The indicator may alternately be employed at an upstream end of an infusion set, such as at the port of a medical bag providing a supply of fluid, to indicate a low level of fluid in the medical bag.

  • Publication number: 20140050077
Abstract: In Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) permits administrators to upgrade the control plane software of a network device without any disruption to the traffic passing through the data plane of the network device. However, because the control plane is unavailable, the network device is unable to transmit periodic messages to re-subscribe to specific VLANs. This may result in a service outage in end devices that rely on the network device to receive data assigned to those VLANs. To prevent the network device from being unsubscribed from the VLANs while the control plane is unavailable, the network device may transmit a control plane message before starting ISSU. Once a neighboring network device receives the message, the neighboring device delays unsubscribing the network device until the control plane is again available. Thus, the network device may perform ISSU without the possibility of data traffic not reaching end devices.

  • Publication number: 20140050243
Abstract: A semiconductor metallurgy includes a ratio of germanium and palladium that provides low contact resistance to both n-type material and p-type material. The metallurgy allows for a contact that does not include gold and is compatible with mass-production CMOS techniques. • Patent number: 8649807
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for adjusting the paging-scheme settings of a switch in an effort to reduce the likelihood that a wireless device roams from a preferred to a non-preferred coverage area. One exemplary method involves: (i) a switch in a radio access network (RAN) determining that a wireless communication device (WCD) should be paged, wherein the WCD is operating in a preferred coverage area; (ii) the switch determining a likelihood of roaming for the first WCD, wherein the likelihood of roaming indicates the likelihood that the first WCD will be handed off from the preferred coverage area to a non-preferred coverage area; (iii) based at least in part on the likelihood of roaming, the switch adjusting at least one paging-scheme setting affecting attempts to page the WCD; and (iv) paging the WCD according to the at least one adjusted paging-scheme setting.

  • Publication number: 20140040729
Abstract: To allow third-party websites to leverage social information maintained in a social networking system, a third-party website may include social information for a user in a web page provided by the third-party website. The social information is obtained from the social networking system. The web page provided by the third-party website includes a social context plug-in that causes a user's browser to obtain social information from a social networking system and to incorporate it within the web page. Customization rules are specified by the web page or by the third-party website to determine how the social information is aggregated and presented on the web page. Hence, the customization rules allow an operator of the third-party website to customize the social content displayed with the web page to provide more relevant information to social networking system users interacting with the third-party website.

  • Patent number: 8644841
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for dynamically adjusting a signal-to-noise (SNR) bias based on relative load between a macro type base station and a micro type base station of a wireless communication system. The SNR bias corresponds to a threshold differential SNR between SNRs of the macro base station and of the micro base station, wherein the SNR bias is configured to be provided to an access terminal (or user equipment) to cause the access terminal (i) to be biased to seek service from the micro base station if the access terminal detects an SNR from the micro base station that is less than the threshold differential SNR below an SNR that the access terminal detects from the macro base station, and (ii) to be biased to seek service from the macro base station otherwise. Once the SNR bias is determined based on the relative load, it is communicated to one or more access terminals.
