  • Patent number: 9167996
Abstract: A needle assembly includes a transparent or translucent housing with a fluid inlet and outlet end, a flashback chamber, and a venting mechanism therebetween. The venting mechanism includes a blocking member to control the fluid flow in the venting mechanism so that it flows along the longest path through the vent. Substantially axially aligned inlet and outlet cannulas extend from the housing and communicate with the chamber. A sealable sleeve covers the external end of the outlet cannula. Relative volumes of the cannulas, the chamber, and the sleeve are selected to provide rapid reliable flashback indicative of venous entry with an internal vent positioned within the housing to divide the interior into first and second chambers, with the second chamber being adapted to maintain a negative pressure therein relative to the external environment so as to inhibit leakage of blood from the needle tip on withdrawal from the patient.

  • Patent number: 9162691
Abstract: A method is provided for detecting broken rail, unintentionally misaligned turnouts, and track occupancy ahead of or behind a railway vehicle traveling on a railroad track. Shunts extend between the rails at intervals along the railroad track. Each shunt has electrical signal transmission characteristics differing from those of adjacent shunts. A test unit on the railway vehicle induces a test signal in a first rail to create a track circuit in which the test signal propagates along the first rail, through at least one of the shunts, returns to the railway vehicle along the second rail, and through the wheels and axle of the railway vehicle. The test signal has electrical properties selected to interact with at least one of the shunts. The received test signal on the second rail is analyzed to identify predetermined conditions concerning the status of the railroad track.

  • Patent number: 9145978
Abstract: An adjustable fail-safe suction stop valve is provided for providing hot gas defrost in refrigeration applications. The dual position valve (10) utilizes a single solenoid (20) and a pair of check valves (60,62) in a configuration that allows the evaporator pressure to be internally equalized through the valve to an adjustable setting over the suction pressure after a defrost cycle has occurred. The intermediate stage allows for this equalization to occur in a controlled manner without the need for an equalization valve.

  • Publication number: 20150193106
Abstract: A technique is provided for configuring an interface device. Individual device elements are stored on the interface device and each element includes a functionality and a visual representation. A general purpose engine resident on the interface device enumerates properties of the device elements in response to a query in a design-time environment. Design-time environment may be served to a general purpose computer working as a configuration station. The general purpose engine is independent of the device elements enumerated. A user viewable screen is then generated for viewing in the design-time environment, with the potential for altering properties of the enumerated device elements. The viewable screen and design-time environment may be displayed in a general purpose viewer or browser by collecting the visual representations associated with the device elements.

  • Publication number: 20150152973
Abstract: A piezo-actuated pilot valve that takes advantage of the small compact size and low power requirement of piezo technology to control the pilot flow in a pilot-operated valve. Exemplary piezo-actuated valves can be operated using a relatively low voltage power supply, such as a battery or a solar cell. This enables usage of the valve in remote locations that do not have a ready source of utility-supplied electrical power. The piezo-actuated pilot valve also can have a programmable controller and/or can have an antenna that allows the valve to be controlled wirelessly.
