  • Patent number: 6690847
Abstract: An optical switching element has a movable optically transmissive microstructure to change the optical paths of the optical signals. The movable microstructure is “optically transmissive” because it includes structures such as waveguides and waveguide networks which transmit optical signals. The apparatus uses MEMS and micromachining technology to build an optical switch having an optically transmissive microstructure which moves from one position to another position in a direction (e.g., laterally, vertically, rotationally) such that incoming optical signals align over a small air gap with different waveguides, or with different inputs to the waveguides, depending on the position of the movable microstructure. As a result, the optical signals travel different optical paths (e.g., straight pass through or cross over) depending on the position of the movable microstructure.

  • Publication number: 20030217871
Abstract: The invention, an improved device and method for the pointer system of a digitizer tablet, is to repetitiously emit signals sequentially from a specific set of inductive loop when the position pointed by the wireless pointer device is located within a range formed by this specific set of inductive loop induced most intensively during a locally scanning process. After a transient energy storage of the wireless pointer device, corresponding resonant signals are emitted out and are received sequentially by several sets of inductive loop located on the digitizer tablet in the neighborhood of this specific set of inductive loop and, by these signals, the wireless pointer device's coordinate position on the digitizer tablet is calculated out relatively.

  • Publication number: 20030214236
Abstract: An front plate structure for a plasma display panel is described. In accordance with the present invention, a protruding space pad structure is formed on the dielectric layer or protective layer of the front plate. The space pad is used to form the height difference on the surface of the front plate, about 3 &mgr;m to 15 &mgr;m. The height difference forms gas channels between the front plate and the discharge region to improve the performance of the vacuuming and refilling gas steps.

  • Patent number: 6647170
Abstract: An optical switching system that switches optical signals in three dimensions by moving an optically transmissive microstructure. The movable microstructure is “optically transmissive” because it includes structures such as waveguides and waveguide networks. The apparatus uses MEMS and micro-machining technology to build an optical switch having an optically transmissive microstructure which moves from one position to another position in a direction (e.g., laterally, vertically, rotationally) such that incoming optical signals align over a small air gap with different waveguides, or with different inputs to the waveguides, depending on the position of the movable microstructure. As a result, the optical signals travel different optical paths (e.g., straight pass through or cross over) depending on the position of the movable microstructure. By combining optical switches in both the vertical and horizontal directions, the resulting optical switching system handles switching in three dimensions.

  • Patent number: 6647168
Abstract: An optical switching system that switches the path of an optical signal by moving a microstructure onto which a light-guiding structure is mounted. The microstructure is formed by a MEMs and semiconductor process to be integral to the substrate. The light-guiding structure may include waveguides. The microstructure moves from one position to another position (e.g., laterally, vertically, rotationally) such that incoming optical signals align over a small air gap to different optical paths, depending on the position of the movable microstructure. As a result, the optical signal propagate along different optical paths (e.g., straight pass through or cross over) depending on the position of the movable microstructure. The optical paths have a large radii of curvature so as to change the direction of the optical signal gradually, thereby reducing insertion losses.

  • Publication number: 20030206505
Abstract: An optical disk drive includes an optical pickup unit, a tracking coil motor and a sled motor that drive movement of the optical pickup unit, and a servo control system. The optical pickup generates a tracking error signal indicative of amount of shift of the optical pickup unit relative to a track position of an optical disk, and a central error signal indicative of amount of shift of the optical pickup unit relative to an optical path. The servo control system generates a tracking coil control signal based on the tracking error signal for controlling operation of the tracking coil motor to adjust the optical pickup unit relative to the track position of the optical disk, and generates a sled motor control signal based on the central error signal for controlling operation of the sled motor to adjust the optical pickup unit relative to the optical path.

  • Publication number: 20030179925
Abstract: A method for compressing image data by classifying colors. Initially, image data is transformed from an RGB coordinate to a Lab coordinate. Subsequently, each pixel of the image from the beginning to an end of the first row data is processed in turn. After finishing the processing of the first row data, the next row data is processed in turn to completely process the image.

  • Publication number: 20030141119
Abstract: A pressure sensitive pen is provided. The pressure sensitive pen comprises a core body, an elastic element, a first magnetic body having one coil formed of at least a wire wound around, a second magnetic body, a sliding member, a hollow cylindrical body with an annular element formed therein and an inductance-capacitance type resonant circuit. The resonant circuit is electrically connected with the first magnetic body having the coil wound around. When a force is upward applied on the core body, the force is further applied on the sliding member through the core body such that the sliding member in conjugation with the second magnetic body move upward and make the elastic element deformed, and changing a predetermined distance between the first magnetic body and the second magnetic body, thereby changing an inductance generated by the coil, and the resonance frequency of the resonant circuit is thus changed.

  • Publication number: 20030128879
Abstract: A method for promoting temporal resolution of sequential images is to firstly choose a first visual frame and split it into a plurality of visual blocks according to a predetermined value, then choose a second visual frame. The method then goes to search the second visual frame for mostly resembling respective visual blocks corresponding to every visual block in the first visual frame and estimate the vector displacement of respective corresponding visual blocks of the visual frames. Further, it goes to rebuild a visual frame, estimate the respective pixel values of respective corresponding visual blocks of the visual frames at a time point, combine the pixel values of visual blocks to create the rebuilt visual frame, apply a median-value-filtering procedure upon the rebuilt visual frame, and apply a spatial low-pass filtering procedure upon the rebuilt visual frame, which has undergone the previous procedure.
