  • Publication number: 20040263077
Abstract: The present invention provides a PDP structure comprising a first substrate, a second substrate and a Waffle barrier rib structure located between the first and second substrate. The Waffle barrier rib structure comprises three first barrier ribs having different width and a plurality of second barrier ribs perpendicular to the first barrier ribs. The second barrier ribs are located between the two first barrier ribs, and connect the wider structure of the two first barrier ribs. Therefore, discharge spaces are formed. Because of different width, the height difference of the barrier rib structure is formed after thermal process. Hence, gas can pass through the barrier ribs structure between the front and the back substrate sealed together.

  • Patent number: 6836583
Abstract: Numerous novel structures and methods are presented for their ability to correct angular and offset alignment errors caused by thermal distortion of a device formed out of dissimilar materials, such as a movable platform and waveguide coupled to a fixed platform and another waveguide. A flexure connected between two platforms corrects offset alignment errors along the centerline axis of the flexure. Thermal distortion is corrected also by varying the relative size of the two platforms and the addition of slots and/or extraneous waveguides. A waveguide may be sandwiched between two matching materials, with or without an extra thermal compensation layer portion. A method uses simple processes to build a substrate with matching waveguides on each side of the substrate. Another simple method creates a suspended structure by using simple semiconductor processes.

  • Publication number: 20040248679
Abstract: A torque limiting device for a wheeled vehicle includes a fixed boss, a plurality of rolling balls, a roller retainer, a roller seat, several disk springs, and a driven housing. Thus, when the wheeled vehicle is suddenly braked under the emergency condition or when the rear tires are subjected to a larger resistance and excessive torque, the driven shaft disengages from the fixed boss, and the rotation of fixed boss cannot drive and rotate the driven shaft, such that the driven shaft stops rotating temporarily, thereby preventing the transmission parts of the CVT and reducing speed system of the wheeled vehicle from being broken or worn out by the excessive torque.

  • Publication number: 20040240190
Abstract: A communication card has a bottom panel, a top cover and a top panel, which is able to accommodate an electronic device. The electronic device has a circuit board and a RF transceiver coupling to the circuit board. The circuit board further comprises at least a metallic ground layer extending along the whole area of the circuit board, such that the dissipation of EMI from the backside of the circuit board can be prevented. The bottom panel and the top panel are both made of an electromagnetic wave penetrable material, and the top cover is made of an electromagnetic wave impenetrable material. The connecting means that can inter-engage with each other are respectively applied on the bottom panel and the top cover, and between the bottom panel and the top panel. After assembling, the circuit board is substantially positioned between the top cover and the bottom panel, and the RF transceiver is substantially positioned between the top panel and the bottom panel.

  • Publication number: 20040199911
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus and a method for upgrading an execution code of a portable memory device. The apparatus stores the execution code in a programmable unit of the portable memory device. While this portable memory device is connected to an external host, an execution code upgrading mechanism stored in the external host will check if there is a newer version of the execution code stored in the external host. If there is, the external host will generate an upgrading signal, delete the original execution code stored in the portable memory device, and overwrite the execution code at the same memory location of the portable memory device with the new version of execution code stored in the external host. Then, the portable memory device will operates by using this new version of execution code.

  • Publication number: 20040190818
Abstract: A 1×N or N×1 optical switch based on a plurality of movable MEMS-created platforms, each carrying a light guiding structure such as a waveguide, where the position of the platforms determines which optical path is connected through the optical switch. The MEMS-created platforms are formed integral with the substrate of the optical switch. The waveguides residing on the movable platforms gradually change the direction of the optical signal in order to minimize losses. The movable platforms can move linearly or rotationally, for example. Also described is a method for fabricating such an optical switch and its components by etching from the bottom of the substrate and through the oxide.

  • Publication number: 20040179447
Abstract: A method in which, during an optimal power calibration (OPC) process, an optical disk drive performs a plurality of write tests to an optical disk at a plurality of test powers and measures a corresponding plurality of modulation signal strength values of the optical disk for the plurality of write tests to generate a modulation signal strength versus power curve. The method then determines possible gamma lines corresponding to considered powers, and selects a considered power as a target power of the optical disk drive when a possible gamma line is substantially tangential to the modulation signal strength versus power curve at the considered power. According to the method, powers within a domain of the plurality of test powers are considered until a considered power is selected as the target power for the optical disk.

  • Publication number: 20040177340
Abstract: A firmware code structuring method and related apparatus includes a plurality of subroutines to define various operations of the hardware circuit, and the subroutines are grouped in several different levels. A subroutine of a lower level defines a simpler operation of the hardware circuit, and a higher-level subroutine calls a plurality of lower level subroutines to define more complicated operations of the hardware circuit. When the lower level subroutines are executed, they store results of corresponding operations in an error code. If certain operations performed do not achieve expected results, a corresponding recovery operation is performed by the hardware circuit. To control the hardware to perform the required recovery operations, an error-handler is executed to make the hardware circuit perform recovery operations corresponding to lower level subroutines called in a higher level subroutine according to the error code after the higher level subroutine is finished.
