  • Patent number: 7003188
Abstract: An optical switching system that switches the path of an optical signal by moving a microstructure onto which a light-guiding structure is mounted. The microstructure is formed by a MEMs and semiconductor process to be integral to the substrate. The light-guiding structure may include waveguides. The microstructure moves from one position to another position (e.g., laterally, vertically, rotationally) such that incoming optical signals align over a small air gap to different optical paths, depending on the position of the movable microstructure. As a result, the optical signal propagate along different optical paths (e.g., straight pass through or cross over) depending on the position of the movable microstructure. The optical paths have a large radii of curvature so as to change the direction of the optical signal gradually, thereby reducing insertion losses.

  • Patent number: 6993670
Abstract: A method of configuring a computer system capable of being woken up on a LAN A core power is actuated for an interval by performing a Pre-Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (Pre-ACPI) routine. Next, a PCI clock signal is retrieved in the fixed interval and then an Ethernet ID is loaded using the PCI clock signal, so as to set a south bridge to a standby mode capable of receiving a wake-up event. As a result, use of an oscillator in conventional methods can be reduced, and the computer system can be configured to be capable of being woken-up on LAN, without requiring the start-up procedure, so that the computer system may be awoken on the LAN even after an abnormal shutdown.

  • Patent number: 6990264
Abstract: A 1×N or N×1 optical switch based on a plurality of movable MEMS-created platforms, each carrying a light guiding structure such as a waveguide, where the position of the platforms determines which optical path is connected through the optical switch. The MEMS-created platforms are formed integral with the substrate of the optical switch. The waveguides residing on the movable platforms gradually change the direction of the optical signal in order to minimize losses. The movable platforms can move linearly or rotationally, for example. Also described is a method for fabricating such an optical switch and its components by etching from the bottom of the substrate and through the oxide.

  • Publication number: 20060008591
Abstract: A coating apparatus (2) includes a work table (20) having a plurality of blowing holes (201) for suspending a substrate (200) thereabove, a coating unit (22) having a photoresist coating nozzle (222) and a supplying device (224) for photoresist material. The photoresist coating nozzle is disposed above the work table, and the supplying device connects to the coating nozzle for supplying photoresist thereto. In operation, the substrate to be coated is continuously suspended in the gas just above but not in contact with the work table. Therefore, accumulation of static electricity and/or foreign particles on the substrate can be avoided. Gas emitting from the blowing holes can remove foreign particles from the surface of the work table and the backside of the work table.

  • Patent number: 6985415
Abstract: The invention is an offset setting system for an optical reading/writing apparatus having an optical pickup head reading/writing digital data under a predetermined velocity on an optical storage media. The apparatus sets the offset including a plurality of buffer blocks when the pickup head crosses storage tracks each time on the media and stop on a target storage track. The offset is to steady the pickup head to read/write data on a target block of the target storage track. A buffer time estimating module estimates an average time for the pickup head crossing a buffer block under a predetermined velocity, defining as a buffer time. The buffer blocks setting module records a steady time for the pickup head steadying to read/write data on the target block, and sets the number of the buffer blocks by a predetermined setting process in the offset based on the buffer time and the steady time.
