  • Patent number: 6795893
Abstract: In a recordable disk recording controller circuit, a data buffer manager receives a command and sends the command to a micro-controller. The micro-controller generates a set of register batches from each command and sends the register data and index of the register batch to a batch register controller. The batch register controller receives the register data and index of the register batch from the micro-controller and stores the received register data and index of the register batch in a batch buffer. The batch register controller retrieves the register batches from the batch buffer and writes the master registers of an encoder controller based on the register index and register data of the register batches after the master registers of the encoder controller are updated into the slave registers of the encoder controller. The encoder controller generates control signals to a recording circuit depending on updated slave registers.

  • Patent number: 6785550
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for estimating mobile station location in a wireless communication system. At initiation of a call or a page response, a mobile station of the system sends an access request signal to a primary base station. The primary base station responds with an access acknowledgment which may be intentionally delayed such that the mo bile station increases its transmit power level. The primary base station then transmits a channel assignment message to the mobile station. The mobile station responds by transmitting a location signal in the form of a known user-specific traffic preamble at the higher transmit power level. The primary base station intentionally delays sending an acknowledgment of the preamble, such that the mobile station transmits the preamble for a longer period of time than it would otherwise.

  • Patent number: 6778187
Abstract: Methods and devices for compressing and uncompressing three color component graphics and/or digital video data for storage to and retrieval from a reduced memory space, while allocating memory space for pixel data special attribute, such as a transparency attribute. 24 bit video data, for example, may be compressed and stored along with 2 bits of transparency data in a 16-bit memory space, without undue loss of fidelity relative to the original graphics and/or video data. The stored and compressed video data may be uncompressed and a correction factor may be selectively applied to each of the three component pixel data. The resulting uncompressed pixel data matches or closely resembles the video data prior to compression and storage. The correction factor may vary depending upon the color space of the graphics and/or video pixel data.

Abstract: An EFM/EFM+ encoding system is adapted to modulate a source symbol sequence into a modulated bit sequence that is further converted to a channel bit sequence, which is to be recorded on a recording medium and which has a cumulative Digital Sum Value (DSV), through NRZI conversion. An apparatus for performing DSV protection in the EFM/EFM+ encoding system includes a DSV calculation unit for calculating the DSV associated with the EFM/EFM+ modulated bit sequence, and a decision unit for adjusting at least a bit in the modulated bit sequence according to the result calculated by the DSV calculation unit such that the channel bit sequence from the NRZI conversion of the adjusted modulated bit sequence accumulates a relatively small DSV. A method of using the EFM/EFM+ encoding system to inhibit disc copying is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6771963
Abstract: A procedure for triggering a handdown or a handoff a mobile station served by a base station of a cellular wireless communication system. A tolerable path loss for signal links between the base station and a mobile station located within the base station's cell, is initially determined. A control signal is radiated at a known transmit power level from the base station over its cell. A receive power level threshold is determined for the control signal for reception by the mobile station, according to the transmit power level and the tolerable path loss. A handoff of the mobile station is triggered after deriving the received power level of the control signal at the mobile station, and determining that the received power level is less than the receive power level threshold.

  • Patent number: 6768366
Abstract: A current produced by a current mirror in a clock generator circuit for a charge pump is controlled by a temperature dependent, current-adjusting MOSFET which has a threshold voltage (Vt) that varies with temperature. As the temperature varies, the current through the a temperature dependent, current-adjusting MOSFET varies, to thereby control a frequency of the clock generator circuit. The MOSFET can be provided with a temperature-independent power supply, so that the current of the temperature dependent, current-adjusting MOSFET can be more closely controlled.

  • Publication number: 20040143784
Abstract: The present invention is a correcting system for correcting a linear block code generated by coding an original data via a data coding process when a predetermined correction portion of an original data is corrected by a variant correction data. The correcting system comprises a coding module and a correcting module. The coding module is used to code the variant correction data via the data coding process to generate a corresponding variant correction code. The correcting module is used to store the variant correction code and calculate the variant correction code and the linear block code to generate a substitute code to substitute the linear block code. Therefore, if the data is modified after an optical recording system has completed coding the data, the optical recording system could add the substitute code to generate the renewed linear block code, unnecessarily reprocessing the complicated data coding process.

  • Publication number: 20040136285
Abstract: A pre-pit signal decoder includes a shift register, a pattern comparator, a counting unit, an in-sync signal generating unit and a protection unit. The register receives serial pre-pit bits and converts them into a parallel pre-pit byte. The comparator generates an odd sync bit, an even sync bit, a low bit, and a high bit according to the pre-pit byte and receives a disable signal to operate when the disable signal is not enabled. The counting unit generates a counting value, which marks oddness/evenness of frames of the pre-pit bits and sequence of wobble signals in the frames, according to the odd sync, even sync, low and high bits. The signal generating unit generates an in-sync signal according to the odd sync, even sync, low, and high bits. The protection unit receives the counting value and the in-sync signal to thereby enable the disable signal at positions where the pre-pit bits impossibly exist according to the counting value.

  • Publication number: 20040109398
Abstract: This invention provides an optical storage device for recording a plurality of data onto an optical storage medium. If recording interrupted, the optical storage device generates a data-interrupted address, and re-connects the interrupted data with a data re-connecting physical address. The optical storage device comprises a physical addressing module, a record-interrupt generator, a data recording controller, a data-interrupt address generator, and a data-reconnecting physical address generator. The physical addressing module provides a reference physical address for recording data onto the optical storage medium. When detecting the interrupt of data recording, the data-interrupt address generator generates the address of the interrupted data. According to the address of the interrupted data, the data-reconnecting physical address generator generates a data-reconnecting physical address.
