  • Publication number: 20140024215
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved double patterning method for forming openings (e.g., vias or trenches) or mesas on a substrate. This method avoids the wafer topography effects seen in prior art double patterning techniques by ensuring that the substrate itself is only subjected to a single etch process. Specifically, in the method, a first mask layer is formed on the substrate and processed such that it has a doped region and multiple undoped regions within the doped region. Then, either the undoped regions or the doped region can be selectively removed in order to form a mask pattern above the substrate. Once the mask pattern is formed, an etch process can be performed to transfer the mask pattern into the substrate. Depending upon whether the undoped regions are removed or the doped region is removed, the mask pattern will form openings (e.g., vias or trenches) or mesas, respectively, on the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20140016477
Abstract: A method is implemented in a network element that functions as one of a plurality of controllers for one of a plurality of areas of a split architecture network. The controller provides a control plane for the area of the split architecture network where the controller is remote from a plurality of switches providing a data plane for the area of split architecture network. The controller facilitates optimized routing across the plurality of areas of the split architecture network by providing limited intra-area link cost data to other controllers of other areas of the split architecture network and to traditional routers of a network including the split architecture network. The limited intra-area link cost data provides costs of each possible shortest path traversal of the area of the controller without providing all internal link cost data.

  • Publication number: 20130332983
Abstract: An efficient elastic enforcement layer (EEL) for realizing security policies is deployed in a cloud computing environment based on a split architecture framework. The split architecture network includes a controller coupled to switches. When the controller receives a packet originating from a source VM, it extracts an application identifier from the received packet that identifies an application running on the source VM. Based on the application identifier, the controller determines a chain of middlebox types. The controller further determines middlebox instances based on current availability of resources. The controller then adds a set of rules to the switches to cause the switches to forward the packet toward the destination VM via the middlebox instances.

  • Publication number: 20130330055
Abstract: Embodiments of methods for multimedia annotation with sensor data (referred to herein as Sensor-rich video) includes acquisition, management, storage, indexing, transmission, search, and display of video, images, or sound, that has been recorded in conjunction with additional sensor information (such as, but not limited to, global positioning system information (latitude, longitude, altitude), compass directions, WiFi fingerprints, ambient lighting conditions, etc.). The collection of sensor information is acquired on a continuous basis during recording. For example, the GPS information may be continuously acquired from a corresponding sensor at every second during the recording of a video. Therefore, the acquisition apparatus generates a continuous stream of video frames and a continuous stream of sensor meta-data values. The two streams are correlated in that every video frame is associated with a set of sensor values. Note that the sampling frequency (i.e.

  • Patent number: 8593958
Abstract: Flow monitoring tasks are assigned to a set of switches in a split architecture network to optimize network-wide flow monitoring. The assignment maximizes the number of monitored flows and reduces overhead of the flow monitoring. A controller receives an estimated traffic volume for each path in the network. The controller calculates, for all of the switches and all of the paths, sampling fractions that maximize the number of the flows sampled by the switches. In response to a request for setting up a new flow to traverse one of the paths in the network, the controller assigns the new flow to one of the switches that are located on the one of the paths, based on the sampling fraction for the assigned switch and the one of the paths, the bandwidth constraint and the memory constraint.

  • Publication number: 20130294236
Abstract: A network element controls congestion in a link of a packet data network. A congested link is identified and a throttle rate is determined for one or more of the traffic groups traversing the congested link. The central controller determines the throttle rates using a weight of the group and the current traffic rate of the group through the link. The throttle rates are sent to switches to throttle traffic for each affected group.

  • Publication number: 20130258847
Abstract: A controller performs network-wide congestion control in a split architecture network. The controller receives flow statistics from switches for each entity that communicates via the network. The controller chooses a most congested link as a bottleneck link based on a packet loss rate that is derived from the flow statistics and estimated for each entity on each link of the network. The controller identifies a target path in the network that passes through the bottleneck link and carries the most traffic, and calculates a throttling probability for each sharing entity that shares the target path based on the capacity of the bottleneck link, capacity of the first link of the target path, bandwidth consumption and packet loss rate of each sharing entity. The controller then transmits the throttling probability of each sharing entity to the ingress switch of the target path to reduce the congestion on the bottleneck link.
