  • Patent number: 7369470
Abstract: An optical recording medium allowing data to be recorded on, erased from, and reproduced from, and storing information about power levels of an erase pulse. The recorded erase pattern information may include information about power levels of first and last pulses of an erase pattern for erasing data. The first and last pulses of the erase pattern can be differently set depending on the differing kind of recording layer or layers of a disk or differing kinds of disks and recorded in a reproducible only area or rewritable area of the optical recording medium. Thus, by presetting the appropriate erase power levels, the time required for selecting an optimal erase power for the optical recording medium can be considerably reduced.

  • Patent number: 7369829
Abstract: A signal reception apparatus and method for communication systems. The signal reception apparatus for communication systems according to the present invention is applicable to communication environments in which a plurality of sub-bands having different frequency bands are sequentially used for communications. An embodiment of the invention has a multi-band index generation unit, a multi-band frequency generation unit, a multiplication unit, a correlation signal reception unit, and a buffer unit. The multi-band index generation unit generates a multi-band index corresponding to a sub-band to which a received signal is transmitted in correspondence with the multi-band index. The multiplication unit outputs a signal obtained by multiplying the received signal by the multi-band frequency. The correlation signal reception unit integrates and outputs the signal of the multiplication unit based on an integral time set in correspondence with the multi-band index.

  • Patent number: 7368526
Abstract: Functionalized porous poly(aryl ether ketone) articles are prepared by reacting ketone groups in the backbone of poly(aryl ether ketone) polymer with a primary amine reagent. Preferred functional primary amines are primary aliphatic amines or substituted hydrazines containing one or more target functional groups including polar groups, such as hydroxyl groups, ˜OH, amino groups, ˜NH2, ˜NHR, ˜NRR?, and ethylene oxide groups, ˜OCH2CH2—, negatively or positively charged ionic groups, such as ˜SO3?, ˜COO?, and ˜NH4+ groups, hydrophobic groups such as siloxane or perfluorcarbone groups, and non-polar groups, such as linear or branched hydrocarbon groups. The functionalized porous poly(aryl ether ketone) article can be prepared by reacting primary amine with a pre-formed, shaped porous poly(aryl ether ketone) article or by functionalizing the surface of a non-porous precursor article that is subsequently converted into a porous article.

  • Patent number: 7367948
Abstract: An acoustic monitoring method and system in laser-induced optical breakdown (LIOB) provides information which characterize material which is broken down, microbubbles in the material, and/or the microenvironment of the microbubbles. In one embodiment of the invention, femtosecond laser pulses are focused just inside the surface of a volume of aqueous solution which may include dendrimer nanocomposite (DNC) particles. A tightly focused, high frequency, single-element ultrasonic transducer is positioned such that its focus coincides axially and laterally with this laser focus. When optical breakdown occurs, a microbubble forms and a shock or pressure wave is emitted (i.e., acoustic emission). In addition to this acoustic signal, the microbubble may be actively probed with pulse-echo measurements from the same transducer. After the microbubble forms, received pulse-echo signals have an extra pulse, describing the microbubble location and providing a measure of axial microbubble size.

  • Patent number: 7368266
Abstract: A method for producing L-threonine using a microorganism is provided. In the method, additional one or more copies of each of the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (ppc) gene and the threonine operon are integrated into a particular site of the chromosomal DNA of a microorganism, while its inherent ppc gene and threonine operon remain. Accordingly, two or more ppc genes and threonine operons are included in the chromosomal DNA of the microorganism to thereby enhance the expression of the ppc gene encoding an enzyme to convert phosphoenolpyruvate to a threonine biosynthesis precursor, oxaloacetete, and the genes encoding enzymes involved in the synthetic pathway of threonine from oxaloacetate, including thrA (aspartokinasel-homoserine dehydrogenase), thrB (homoserine kinase), and thrC (threonine synthase), thereby markedly increasing L-threonine productivity.
