Abstract: A thermal link assembly provides thermal connection between first and second thermally conductive parts. The thermal link assembly is adapted for securing to the first part. The second part is generally disk-shaped and has a peripheral cylindrical surface. The thermal link assembly includes an annular ring made of thermally conductive material. The annular ring is generally in a shape of revolution with respect to an axis. The annular ring includes an annular base portion to be secured to the first part and a series of contact tongues arranged along the base portion. Each contact tongue has a stem and a head. The stem has i) a longitudinal axis extending generally parallel to the axis of the annular ring, ii) a first longitudinal end connected to the base portion, and iii) a second longitudinal end connected to the head. The head has a contact surface to be in contact with the peripheral cylindrical surface of the second part.

Abstract: A high throughput, short batch cycle commercial ice making machine produces commercial ice which resists melting in convenient sizes for mobile food carts, market produce, or fish displays. The machine introduces super-cooled water, that is in a liquid state while exposed to a temperature below freezing, into a batch of pre-formed hollow molds of one or more horizontally oriented ice forming freezing trays oriented horizontally. Using vapor compression refrigeration, the machine produces a plurality of supercooled ice segments in pockets within the freezing tray. The supercooled ice segments are rapidly subjected to a short, temporary contact with a high heat source from a sleeve integral with the freezing tray compartments, along a peripheral bottom surface of the ice segment accommodating freezing tray molds. This temporarily melts a bottom surface of each ice segment, lubricating it and loosening it.

Abstract: A defroster restrains a vane jump that takes place when an evaporator is defrosted in a refrigerant circuit using a so-called internal intermediate-pressure type double-stage compression rotary compressor. The defroster includes a rotary compressor that discharges a refrigerant gas that has been compressed by a first rotary compressing unit into a hermetic vessel and further compresses the discharged intermediate-pressure refrigerant gas, a gas cooler, an expansion valve, and an evaporator. To defrost the evaporator, the refrigerant gas discharged from the second rotary compressing unit is introduced into the evaporator without decompressing it by the expansion valve. Furthermore, the refrigerant gas discharged from the first rotary compressing unit is introduced into the evaporator. At the same time, an electromotive unit of the rotary compressor is run at a predetermined number of revolutions.

Abstract: A system for detecting reverse rotation of a 4-cycle, internal combustion engine with three or more cylinder for an outboard motor mounted on a boat, whose output is connected to a propeller such that the boat is propelled forward or reverse. In the system, it is determined whether a counted value of crank angle signals generated once every 30 crank angles is a multiple of a predetermined number (e.g., four in six cylinders), when the cylinders are identified and it is determined that engine rotates reverse when the counted value is determined to be not the multiple and the engine is immediately stopped. With this, it becomes possible to accurately detect the reverse rotation of the engine and prevent its further reverse rotation.

Abstract: A system for detecting malfunction of an equipment such as an alternator or a hydraulic switch that is connected to an internal combustion engine and generates an output. In the system, it is discriminated periodically for a predetermined period of time whether the output of the equipment is within a predetermined range, a number of times that the output of the equipment is discriminated to be out of the predetermined range is counted; and the equipment is determined to have malfunctioned when the count is equal to or greater than the reference value. With this, it becomes possible to detect the malfunction of the equipment accurately.

Abstract: A system detecting leakage of an internal combustion engine having a secondary air passage, bypassing a throttle valve, at an air intake pipe connecting to the intake manifold and a secondary air control valve which regulates opening of the secondary air passage. In the system, when the changes in the absolute manifold pressure and the atmospheric pressure before and after the engine starts rotation, are small, it is determined that the intake manifold may possibly leak and should be monitored. Specifically, the opening of the secondary air passage is changed and the changes in the pressure, etc., before and after the opening is changed, are calculated and based thereon, it is determined whether the intake manifold, in fact, leaks. With this, it becomes possible to detect intake manifold leakage accurately with a simple configuration.

Abstract: A force detecting load cell, which is designed to be a direct replacement for existing anchor pins, is used as the load-bearing member and measuring and diagnostic device in brake systems. The working dimensions of the cell and the parts replaced are the same, except that the cell has short zones of decreased diameter so that strains are concentrated in these zones. Electrical strain gages are positioned within these zones with connections to exterior measuring and monitoring instrumentation. The arrangement and orientation of the gages in the concentrating zones permit measurement of the applied brake loads both as to magnitude and direction, which the vehicle having the brake system is being operated and moving, i.e., being driven.

Abstract: A float-type liquid level gauge assembly is provided for measuring the level of a liquid in a tank. The liquid level gauge includes a gear housing for efficiently coupling the gears and accurately assembling and aligning certain components; a movable pivot arm assembly supporting a float arm assembly; and a gear on the pivot arm assembly coupled with a pinion gear located in the gear housing. The pinion gear has a shaped passageway which accepts a similarly shaped drive shaft. A single piece magnetic cap, which defines a bore correspondingly shaped to accept the shaped drive shaft such that it will not rotate relative to the drive shaft, is installed on the drive shaft. The drive shaft and the magnetic cap each include a positioning feature, such that when the positioning feature of the drive shaft engages the positioning feature of the magnetic cap, the magnetic cap is properly aligned with a magnet in a dial assembly.

Abstract: An accelerometer. A silicon wafer is etched to form a fixed portion, a movable portion, and a resilient coupling between, the fixed and movable portions generally arranged in the plane of the wafer, the mass of the movable portion being concentrated on one side of the resilient coupling. One of the fixed and moveable portions of the silicon structure includes a first electrode. The other of the fixed and moveable portions includes a second electrode oriented parallel to the axis of acceleration, and an electrically-conductive layer electrically connected as a third electrode coplanar and mechanically coupled with the second electrode. The second and third electrodes are arranged in capacitive opposition to the first electrode, the capacitance between the first electrode and third electrode increasing as the movable portion moves in a direction along the axis of acceleration relative to the fixed portion and decreasing as the movable portion moves in an opposite direction.
