Publication number: 20030106376Abstract: A method and system for nondestructively detecting and characterizing defects in articles, including assemblies that may include components formed of composite materials. The method entails vibrating an entire article/assembly to induce an oscillating strain in the article/assembly so that any flaws in the article/assembly are heated by localized friction, as would occur between opposing surface portions of a defect or an interface between components of the assembly. The article/assembly is then infrared imaged to detect any localized temperature rises associated with the localized friction at the defect or interface.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2001Publication date: June 12, 2003Inventors: Shahram Shirzad, John Ruediger Mader Viertl

Publication number: 20030106377Abstract: According to a pressure sensitive sensor and a method of treating a terminal of a pressure sensitive sensor of the invention, a covering portion is formed by a thermoplastic resin material for hot melt molding or a photo-curing resin material cured by absorbing light energy. That is, molding pressure in molding is lower than molding pressure in molding by a general injection molding method. Therefore, a possibility of effecting adverse influence on respective connecting portions of an electrode line, a resistor, a conductive piece and a lead wire by the molding pressure is extremely low and disconnection caused by operating the molding pressure on the connecting portions can reliably be prevented.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 11, 2002Publication date: June 12, 2003Applicant: Asmo Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hidenori Ishihara, Hirokazu Tsuda, Manabu Kato

Publication number: 20030106380Abstract: An apparatus to normalize a flow rate of a fluid in a main flow channel is provided. The apparatus uses a moveable member, such as a flexible membrane disposed for reciprocating displacement, to produce a constant dither flow of the fluid that is independent of fluid composition. This dither flow generates a signal output from a normalizing flow sensor that both represents a characteristic property of the fluid and a flow rate calibration factor. A similar apparatus to determine the characteristic property or flow rate calibration factor is also provided. The devices disclosed may be used in numerous industrial, process, and medical flow system applications for normalization of flow sensors and to derive other properties of a fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2003Publication date: June 12, 2003Inventors: Ulrich Bonne, David Kubisiak

Publication number: 20030106419Abstract: A control valve in fluid communication with an actuator may include a pressurized pilot supply and a fluid reservoir fluidly connected to a passageway defined by a valve body. A pilot operator is selectively moveable within the passageway, and a flow metering operator is moveably disposed within the passageway. A fluid make-up operator, disposed in the passageway and in fluid communication with the fluid reservoir and the actuator, directs pressurized pilot supply fluid in response to a decrease in actuator pressure coinciding with a cavitation condition within the actuator. A control chamber within the valve body contains pressurized fluid from the pilot supply and is in fluid communication with the flow metering operator. The flow metering operator fluidly connects the actuator with the fluid reservoir under the influence of the pressurized fluid within the control chamber through activation by either the pilot operator or the fluid make-up operator.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2001Publication date: June 12, 2003Inventor: Kazunori Yoshino

Publication number: 20030106420Abstract: A fluid control system includes a pump, a tank, and an actuating cylinder having a rod end chamber and a head end chamber. The fluid control system also includes an independent metering valve arrangement and a pressure sensor configured to sense a pressure of fluid at the head end chamber. A controller communicates with the valve assembly and the pressure sensor. The controller selectively actuates at least one valve of the independent metering valve arrangement based on the sensed pressure at the head end chamber and a mode of operation of the control system.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2001Publication date: June 12, 2003Inventor: Kazunori Yoshino

Publication number: 20030106421Abstract: A pressure regulating valve (20) for adjusting a pressure of a supply/discharge passage (10) to a pressure balanced against a weight of a body to be carried (1) is provided. The supply/discharge passage (10) is connected to a working chamber (8) of a cylinder (2) for raising and lowering the body to be carried (1). A control valve (38) for increasing and decreasing a pressure in a control passage (28) in accordance with a balance between the weight of the body to be carried (1) and a working force in a reaction force chamber (42) to which a pilot pressure is introduced from the control passage (28) is also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2002Publication date: June 12, 2003Inventor: Noboru Kimura

Publication number: 20030106422Abstract: A fluid control system is disclosed that includes a first double-acting actuator and a second double-acting actuator. A first independent metering valve has a first control port connected to the first double-acting actuator, a second control port connected to the second double-acting actuator, first and second independently operable valves disposed between the inlet port and the first and second control ports, and a first check control mechanism having a main check valve between the inlet port and the first and second independently operable valves. The first check control mechanism controls the main check valve to allow the first and second actuators to operate in either an independent function mode or a regenerative function mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2002Publication date: June 12, 2003Applicants: Caterpillar Inc., Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi Ltd.Inventors: Thomas J. Publication number: 20030106423Abstract: A fluid control system is disclosed that includes a reservoir, a pump in fluid communication with the reservoir, a first double-acting actuator having a first head end chamber and a first rod end chamber, a second double-acting actuator having a second head end chamber and a second rod end chamber. The first and second double-acting actuators are selectively fluidly connected via a conduit. A first independent metering valve is configured to selectively provide fluid flow to the first and second double-acting actuators, and a second independent metering valve is configured to selectively provide fluid flow to the first and second double-acting actuators. The fluid control system also includes a proportional valve attached to the conduit between the first double-acting actuator and the second double-acting actuator. The proportional valve is capable of operating the fluid control system in either an independent function mode or a regenerative function mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2002Publication date: June 12, 2003Applicants: Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi Ltd., Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Thomas J. Publication number: 20030106424Abstract: A single-chamber self-locking cylinder is described in which the single-chamber is made up of a male half-cylinder and a female half-cylinder that are inserted one into the other in mutually sliding way in axial direction. Two pairs of diametral rods that are angularly offset from each other are provided that operate on said half-cylinders in order to retain them in a predetermined axially centred position under the action of a fluid in pressure that is fed inside said single-chamber. Each one of said pairs of diametral rods is made up of two rods operating onto opposite faces of said half-cylinders and coupled to each other by axial tie rods. One of the two rods is fastened to a stem coupled in axially sliding way to one of the two half-cylinders while the other one is slidingly coupled to another stem that is coupled in axially sliding way to the other one of the two half-cylinders.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2002Publication date: June 12, 2003Inventor: Fabio Sorze

Publication number: 20030106425Abstract: A swash plate-type compressor has a rotatable swash plate and a piston. The swash plate is made from an alloy of copper containing bismuth. The alloy of copper contains bismuth in a range of about 0.5 wt % to about 20.0 wt %. The piston is connected to the swash plate via at least one shoe and reciprocates in company with each rotation of the swash plate.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 5, 2002Publication date: June 12, 2003Inventor: Masayuki Kuribara
