Abstract: An electric motor includes a housing and a circular stator. The housing has an inner circumferential surface. The housing also has a first predetermined thermal expansion coefficient. The housing further has an elastic part. The stator core is pressed to an inside of the housing by tight fit. The stator core has an outer circumferential surface. The stator core also has a second predetermined thermal expansion coefficient that is different from the first predetermined thermal expansion coefficient. A void is defined between the inner circumferential surface and the outer circumferential surface so as to prevent the inner and the outer circumferential surfaces from contacting each other in a circular region. When the housing and the stator core expand or shrink so as to tightly fit each other due to a differential between the first and second predetermined thermal expansion coefficients, the elastic part corresponding to the void is elastically deformed.

The apparatus has a pre-compensator, an ultrasonic modulator, an amplitude modulator, an amplifier, and a directional ultrasonic beam emitter. The pre-compensator receives an audio signal to perform pre-compensation and then to generate a signal according to an ultrasonic air self-demodulation mechanism selected by a specific design. The ultrasonic modulator provides an ultrasonic carrier wave. The amplitude modulator receives the signal output by the pre-compensator and the ultrasonic carrier wave output by the ultrasonic modulator to load the signal into the ultrasonic carrier wave. The directional ultrasonic beam emitter is used to recover the audio signal by air self-demodulation. The directivity of the ultrasonic wave localizes the self-demodulation within the proceeding path of the wave beam, such that the audible sound carried by the carrier wave can only be heard locally to form the directional acoustic beam.

Each expansion card includes a metal plate (32) having a bent portion (36) and an inserting portion (34) received in a corresponding receiving member. The retention device is pivotably mounted between the two pivot seats of the rear panel. The retention device includes a pressing portion (42) and a resilient portion (44) connecting with opposite ends of the pressing portion. In assembly, the pressing portion presses against the bent portion of the metal plates toward the receiving member, and the resilient portion detachably engage with the rear panel.

Abstract: In a glow plug configured such that a metallic, tubular member having a heater fixedly provided therein is joined to a metallic shell, an external-thread portion is formed on the outer circumferential surface of the metallic shell so as to allow the glow plug to be screwed into a plug-mounting hole formed in an engine head. An annular protrusion is formed on the outer circumferential surface of the metallic, tubular member in such a manner as to protrude radially outward, to annularly extend in the circumferential direction, and to be located in the vicinity of a distal end of the metallic shell. A distally-facing end face of the annular protrusion abuts an annular seat face in the mounting hole, and the metallic, tubular member and the metallic shell are joined such that a distal end face of the metallic shell abuts a rearward-facing end face of the annular protrusion.

Abstract: A carbon nanotube is contacted with a reactive substance which is a metal or a semiconductor. The reactive substance is heated to diffuse atoms of the reactive substance into the carbon nanotube so that the carbon nanotube is partially transformed or converted into carbide as a reaction product. Thus, a heterojunction of the reaction product and the carbon nanotube is formed. For example, the carbon nanotube (2) is contacted with a silicon substrate (1). The silicon substrate (1) is heated to cause solid-solid diffusion of Si. As a result, SiC (3) is formed as the heterojunction. At least a part of a filament material of a carbon nanotube is irradiated with electromagnetic wave to deform the filament material.

Abstract: The invention relates to a fluorescent lamp having a transparent or translucent glass bulb of a tubular cross section containing an inert gas such as Neon, Argon, Krypton or Xenon. A means to produce an electric discharge within said bulb will energise a coating of a fluorescent material deposited on the interior surface of the glass bulb to emit visible light. At least one region uncoated by said fluorescent material is provided at said interior surface of the glass bulb in manner which creates the appearance of a repeating pattern such that visible light is emitted by said fluorescent material and no visible light is emitted by said at least one region uncoated. The regions uncoated define a spiraled pattern to the glass bulb such that when the glass bulb is rotated about the axis of the spiraled pattern a generally upwardly or downwardly motion is perceived by a person looking at the lamp.

Abstract: A visual has a multilayer ceramic substrate 1 with an emission layer 2 on its front face. The substrate is mounted on carrier 4 with a L-shaped cross-section, via the foot 41 of the L. A glass face plate 5 is on the top of the main limb 42 of the L. The face plate has a phosphor layer 6 on its inside surface. A succession 7 of vias and interconnects in the L provides connection from the substrate 1 to the phosphor layer. A band 8 of frit is screen printed onto the inside of the face plate, peripherally of phosphor layer. In a corresponding position on the top of the main limb, a groove 9 is formed. The groove extends around the full extent of the carrier. On assembly of the face plate to the carrier, the frit 8 fits into the groove 9. The face plate abuts the top of the limb 42, thereby defining the separation of the face plate and the emission substrate.
