  • Patent number: 7345427
Abstract: The invention relates to a non-automotive-headlight lamp (1) comprising a lighting element (3) and a transparent bulb (2), which is at least partly equipped with an interference coating (4) for e.g. changing the color or color temperature of the lamp (1), and to a lighting unit (15) comprising such a lamp (1) being mounted in a reflector (12). But the invention is also related to lighting units (15) where the interference coating (4) is not applied to the lamp (1) but to the reflector (12). In these lamps (1) or lighting units (15) light components (8) not appropriately filtered by the interference coating (4) lead to undesired wavelengths in the illumination beam and/or to a compromised color uniformity of the beam. Such light components (8) may stem from missing or insufficient filters on part of the lamp (1), from non-normal incidence of the rays (8) on the filter (4), and, in reflectors (12) with interference coating (4), from direct light (8) not hitting the reflector (12).

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for generating strongly-ionized plasmas are disclosed. A strongly-ionized plasma generator according to one embodiment includes a chamber for confining a feed gas. An anode and a cathode assembly are positioned inside the chamber. A pulsed power supply is electrically connected between the anode and the cathode assembly. The pulsed power supply generates a multi-stage voltage pulse that includes a low-power stage with a first peak voltage having a magnitude and a rise time that is sufficient to generate a weakly-ionized plasma from the feed gas. The multi-stage voltage pulse also includes a transient stage with a second peak voltage having a magnitude and a rise time that is sufficient to shift an electron energy distribution in the weakly-ionized plasma to higher energies that increase an ionization rate which results in a rapid increase in electron density and a formation of a strongly-ionized plasma.

  • Patent number: 7345430
Abstract: Systems and methods presented herein provide for the control of electrical energy discharge from an electrode. In this regard, a sensor detects electrical energy discharged from the electrode and generates an electronic signal representative of a detected electrical energy discharge. Such a sensor may detect an electric field and/or light from the electrical energy discharge. The sensor may generate the electronic signal therefrom for subsequent processing. Accordingly, the system also includes a controller communicatively coupled to the sensor to determine a spurious discharge of the electrical energy discharge from the electrode. The controller processes the electronic signal to control at least one characteristic (e.g., voltage) of the electrical energy provided to the electrode. The controller may change a voltage of the electrical energy to the electrode in response to determining a spurious discharge of the electrical energy discharged from the electrode.
