Publication number: 20080135744Abstract: A method of identifying molecules of biological origin is disclosed. The molecules are identified and the basis of the accurately determined mass to charge ratio of the molecules and at least a further physico-chemical property such as elution time or charge state. Further physico-chemical properties may be used. The experimentally determined accurate mass and physico-chemical properties can then be compared with a look-up table of information. The look-up table may generated or physico-chemical properties of data in a conventional database may be calculated. The ability to recognise and preferably identify the same molecules in two different samples may be used to determine whether a particular biological molecules has been expressed differently in an experimental sample relative to a control sample.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 16, 2004Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: Micromass UK LimitedInventors: Scott Geromanos, Ashok R. Publication number: 20080135746Abstract: A mass spectrometer is disclosed comprising an ion mobility spectrometer or separator (3) arranged upstream of a collision or fragmentation cell (5). Ions are separated according to their ion mobility within the ion mobility spectrometer or separator (3). The kinetic energy of the ions exiting the ion mobility spectrometer or separator (3) is increased substantially linearly with time in order to optimise the fragmentation energy of ions as they enter the collision or fragmentation cell (5).Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2005Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: MICROMASS UK LIMITEDInventors: Jason Lee Wildgoose, Steven Derek Pringle, Kevin Giles, Robert Harold Bateman

Publication number: 20080135747Abstract: In an RF ion trap, analyte ions are fragmented by applying a moderately high RF storage voltage to the trap. The ions are then excited via dipolar excitation, and after a short time, the ions are forced into a resting state, again using dipolar excitation. The RF storage voltage is then rapidly reduced to a low value thereby making it possible to store small fragment ions produced by ergodic decompositions that occur subsequent to the reduction of the RF storage voltage.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 28, 2007Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: Bruker Daltonik GmbHInventor: Andreas Brekenfeld

Publication number: 20080135748Abstract: A mesh (M) having an ellipsoid shape or a shape close to the ellipsoid shape is attached to an electrode (EL1) among electrodes (EL1 to ELn). Voltages of the later-stage electrodes (EL2 to ELn) are appropriately set. With this arrangement, a local negative spherical aberration generated by the mesh (M) is cancelled out with a positive spherical aberration. This optimizes an electric field distribution. As a result, this realizes an electrostatic lens whose acceptance angle is extended to about±60°.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 9, 2004Publication date: June 12, 2008Inventors: Hiroshi Daimon, Hiroyuki Matsuda, Makoto Kato, Masato Kudo

Publication number: 20080135749Abstract: A microscope probe including a coaxial tip and a coplanar waveguide (CPW) formed on a silicon substrate is provided. The coaxial tip includes a tip shaft and a tip nib formed from the silicon substrate with the tip nib extending from the tip shaft opposite the silicon substrate. The tip shaft includes a first layer of a first conductive material formed over the silicon substrate, a second layer of an insulating material formed over the first layer, and a third layer of a second conductive material formed over the second layer. The tip nib includes the first layer of the first conductive material formed over the silicon substrate and exposed from the second layer and the third layer of the tip shaft. The CPW includes a center conductor formed from the first layer of the first conductive material and a first and a second outer conductor formed from the second layer of the second conductive material.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2006Publication date: June 12, 2008Inventors: Daniel Warren van der Weide, Yaqiang Wang

Publication number: 20080135750Abstract: An system for the measurement, analysis, and imaging of objects and surfaces in a variety of sizes is provided. In the most general terms, the invention relates to a device capable of measuring an object using a combination of low-resolution optical, high-resolution optical, SPM/AFM and/or material analysis techniques. The data gathered at various resolutions is correlated to absolute locations on the object's surface, allowing selected regions of the object's surface to be analyzed to any desired degree of precision (down to atomic scale). In a specific embodiment of the present invention, a system for collecting measurement data regarding an object of interest is disclosed. The system includes a sample stage adapted to hold the object of interest. The system further includes an optical lens assembly disposed above the sample stage. The optical lens assembly is configured to capture an optical image of the object of interest.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 1, 2007Publication date: June 12, 2008Inventor: Victor B. Kley
