  • Patent number: 7397197
Abstract: A discharge lamp lighting circuit includes a DC/AC converter, a starting circuit, a control unit, a plurality of switching elements driven by the control unit and a series LC resonance circuit. At the time of lighting the discharge lamp, the driving frequency of the switching elements is set to a value higher than a resonance frequency at a time of lighting the discharge lamp thereby to drive and control the switching elements. When the driving frequency reduces and the extinction of the discharge lamp is detected, the driving frequency is shifted to a frequency region which is higher than a resonance frequency at a time of extinguishing the discharge lamp thereby to restart the lamp. Further, when the driving frequency reduces to a value lower than the resonance frequency at a time of lighting the discharge lamp during the lighting of the discharge lamp, the driving frequency is restored to a frequency region higher than the resonance frequency at a time of lighting the discharge lamp.

Abstract: A phase switch (energy switch) comprising a three-cavity system (an end-coupled cavity+side-passed accelerate cavity+an end-coupled cavity) and a separate single couple cavity is disclosed. The phase shift between the adjacent accelerate cavities is ? when the three-cavities system is disordered (state ‘0’); and a microwave pass through the three-cavities system to the adjacent accelerate cavities, the phase between the adjacent accelerate cavities is change to 2? (or 0) when the single couple cavity is disordered (state ‘1’). When the state 0 changes to state 1, the field phase in the structure behind the system is changed to ?, thereby to switch the phase. In the two states, the entire structure operates in ?/2 mode, that is very stable. That is very important for the medical accelerator. The detaining components have been moved outside the cavity when the single couple cavity or the three-cavity system is in the operate state, without warring about high frequency breakdown.

  • Patent number: 7397212
Abstract: A DC motor phase estimation algorithm that estimates a speed-related harmonic frequency of a DC motor current under dynamic load conditions having known geometry parameters. The algorithm estimates the phase and magnitude of a complex coefficient in a complex single frequency adaptive filter that receives a primary signal from the motor current and estimates a reference signal using an incident frequency by adapting the complex coefficient to match the magnitude and phase of the speed-related harmonic component of the primary signal. The rate of change of the phase of the complex coefficient is determined by a phase-lock loop coupled to the adaptive filter to adapt a dynamic incident frequency corresponding to a single frequency component of interest in the primary signal. The incident frequency is extracted, and the motor speed is estimated using the extracted incident frequency and the known motor geometry parameters.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system for controlling power supply voltage to an on-chip power distribution network. The system incorporates a programmable on-chip sensing network that can be selectively connected to the power distribution network at multiple locations. When the sensing network is selectively connected to the power distribution network at an optimal sensing point, a local voltage feedback signal from that optimal sensing point is generated and used to adjust the power supply voltage and, thus, to manage voltage distribution across the power distribution network. Additionally, the system incorporates a policy for managing the voltage distribution across the power distribution network, a means for profiling voltage drops across the power distribution network and a means for selecting the optimal sensing point based on the policy and the profile. Another embodiment of the system can further control power supply voltages to multiple power distribution networks on the same chip.

Abstract: A power conversion system, preferably a buck converter, having (i) an oscillator, (ii) a pulse width modulator, (iii) and a nonoverlap clock generator and level shifter, wherein the improvement comprises the elimination of an external resistor divider is described. The buck converter can convert input voltage ranging from approximately 3V to 5V down to approximately 0.7-1.0V, 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, and 3.3V without the use of resistor dividers. The voltage input identifiers select one of the possible output settings for flexibility and accuracy. The integrated field emitting transistors can provide a continuous current of at least 6 A. Additionally, peak current mode and an oscillator enable multiphase operation, up to ten buck converters, for up to 60 A output current. The multiphase operation reduces the output inductor size, and number of bulk capacitors. Moreover, the multiphase operation yields higher efficiency and provides high transient response for demanding applications.

Abstract: Examples of a method and apparatus for adjusting a reference. One circuit includes a current divider to divide a current from a current source into a first current and a reference current. The circuit also includes a current mirror coupled to the current divider to receive the first current from the current divider and to receive an adjustment current. The adjustment current is to set the reference current such that the reference current is adjustable between a full value and a fraction of the full value in response to the adjustment current. A change in the reference current and a change in the adjustment current are proportional when the adjustment current is between an upper and a lower threshold value.

Abstract: A device for measuring alternating voltage in a conductor under test using a first set of capacitive voltage sensors 32a-f mounted on an electrically insulating support member. The sensors are disposed on the support member at spaced intervals along a first notional circle and are connected in parallel between an inner signal conductor 33 and a zero voltage reference conductor 37. A second set of capacitive voltage sensors 34a-f are mounted on the support member at spaced intervals along a second notional circle and are connected in parallel between an outer signal conductor 35 and the reference conductor 37. The support member is configured to allow a conductor under test 38 to be introduced into the interior of the device so that the sensors surround the axis of the conductor. Each sensor has a signal electrode 48 connected to the signal conductor and a reference electrode 50 connected to the reference conductor and is orientated with the signal electrode facing the conductor under test.
