Abstract: Low-energy consumption techniques for locating a movable object using a global satellite navigation system (GNSS) are provided. A mobile station attached to or included in a movable object can communicate bidirectionally with a fixed base station to determine a location of the movable object. The mobile station may communicate an estimated position to the base station and receive from the base station a set of GNSS satellites that are visible to the mobile station. The mobile station can acquire satellite timing information from GNSS signals from the set of satellites and communicate minimally-processed satellite timing information to the base station. The base station can determine the position of the mobile station and communicate the position back to the mobile station. By offloading much of the processing to the base station, energy consumption of the mobile station is reduced.

Abstract: A position location system comprises transmitters that broadcast positioning signals. Each broadcasted positioning signal comprises a pseudorandom ranging signal. The position location system includes a remote receiver that acquires and measures the time of arrival of the positioning signals received at the remote receiver. During an interval of time, at least two positioning signals are transmitted concurrently by the transmitters and received concurrently at the remote receiver. The two positioning signals have carrier frequencies offset from one another by an offset that is less than approximately twenty-five percent of the bandwidth of each positioning signal of the two positioning signals. Cross-interference between the positioning signals is reduced by tuning the remote receiver to a frequency of a selected signal of the two positioning signals and correlating the selected signal with a reference pseudorandom ranging signal matched to a transmitted pseudorandom ranging signal of the selected signal.

Abstract: A nuclide decay discriminator system and method is disclosed. The system utilizes a digital computing device (DCD) to capture radiation counts from a radiation detection device (RDD) such as a photon detector via the use of one or more integrated analog-to-digital converters (ADC). The radiation count information is then processed using a recursive procedure in the DCD that determines the desired nuclide to be evaluated and then defines the possible nuclide decay transition states. For each possible nuclide decay state, a recursive permutation of possible state transitions from this nuclide state is determined using a state permutation engine (SPE). Combinations of these state transition branches are linked to form state transition chains each having individual probabilities associated with the overall state transition chain. These state transition chain probabilities are applied to the RDD ADC data to form observed RDD radiation data radiation count probabilities and displayed in real-time.

A power leg coupling interfaces a surface controller of a downhole instrument to the conductors of the tool's power cable. Uplink communication of telemetry data occurs via current modulation generated by the downhole instrument and interpreted by a surface controller. • Publication number: 20160259098
Abstract: An object is to provide a blazed diffraction grating having a smaller blaze angle than an existing blaze angle, and a method for producing the same. A method for producing a blazed diffraction grating includes the steps of forming a resin layer on a support having a saw-tooth sectional shape and having a surface on which a basic blaze surface and a basic riser surface are arranged alternately and repeatedly in a direction, such that the thickness of the resin layer contacting with the surface monotonically changes in the direction, and forming a metal coating film covering the resin layer surface. The method for monotonically changes the thickness comes in a formation method by difference in volatilization volume after applying a solvent resin on the support, and a formation method by a centrifugal force.

Abstract: A light amount adjusting device includes ND filters rotating around shafts serving as rotation shafts and moving between in-use positions and retracted positions, arranged on a base plate. The respective ND filters include uniform density portions, gradation portions, and transparent portions. If the ND filters are in the retracted positions, the transparent portions of the respective ND filters overlap in an area facing an aperture to cover the entire aperture with the transparent portions. If the ND filters are in the in-use positions, the gradation portions of the respective ND filters overlap in an area facing the aperture to cover the entire aperture with the gradation portions and the uniform density portions. Moreover, a combined density acquired when the gradation portions overlap in just proportion is substantially the same as an optical density of each of the uniform density portions.
