  • Patent number: 5201266
Abstract: A baler machine including a charging chamber for receiving material to be baled. The charging chamber has a charging passage through which material is forced into a baling compression chamber by a compression ram to thereby form a bale in the compression chamber. An ejection ram is provided for forcing the compressed material out of the baling compression chamber through an exit passageway. A movable decompression wall functions as one wall of the baling compression chamber. Such wall is located opposite and spaced from the charging passage through which material is forced from the charging chamber. A power cylinder is provided to move the decompression wall in a horizontal direction to effectively increase the volume of the baling compression chamber which, at the same time, increases the size of the exit passageway to thereby permit ejection of an oversized bale from the compression chamber.

  • Patent number: 5163364
Abstract: Calendering takes place in a calendering zone which operates under pressure with application of temperature and moisture. The desired smoothness is achieved with a correspondingly long dwell time of the material web in a correspondingly long calendering zone in view of the speed of web travel. A web which is still wet is guided between parallel heatable surfaces which are arranged on both sides of the web and face each other through the web and can each be pressed against the web. The surfaces are designed to form and hold a given precise contour of the calendering zone over its full length. One surface is constructed e.g. as a casing of a heated roller and the second surface is constructed as an endless flexible belt which can be pressed in a direction towards the roller casing by means of a concave supporting element. If wished, the web can be calendered on both sides with the method.

  • Patent number: 4762061
Abstract: This invention relates to compression of a paper roll for reducing a volume thereof. The paper roll is introduced into a receiver which includes side wall members disposed in parallel with each other and leaning a given space therebetween, a wall member spanning the space between the side wall members for bearing the paper roll during the compression thereof, and a compressing plate member disposed between said side wall member and connected to a pusher rod member. The paper roll is compressed by moving the compressing plate member toward the spanning wall member and is deformed into a flat shape until a diameter of the paper roll is reduced to a thickness within the range between one-half and one-fifth. A degree of the compression is regulated so that the volume reduction can be effectively obtained while it can be easily restituted to its original shape.

  • Patent number: 4750417
Abstract: In a method of compacting low density articles a conveyor supplies articles to be compacted to a hopper positioned alongside the upper end of a compression chamber in which a platen is adapted to be reciprocated. When the presence of a specified charge in the hopper is sensed, the conveyor is disabled, the hopper and hydraulic cylinder with the platen in the retracted position are swung laterally to bring the hopper over the compression chamber to dump the contained articles into the chamber. The hopper and cylinder are then returned to their initial positions, the cylinder is actuated to cause the platen to compress the dumped articles, and the conveyor is again enabled to supply articles to the hopper.

  • Patent number: 4669184
Abstract: A building truss fabrication apparatus in which a plurality of press head assemblies are supported by an overhead gantry support so that the various press assemblies are movable in an x-y coordinate space. A movable jig table is arranged to move between an assembly position and a pressing position within the apparatus. The movement of the jig table is hydraulically powered as are the press head assemblies. The entire apparatus is operable by a single hydraulic power source. A standard air compressor is used to generate air pressure of pneumatic clamps used on the jig table. The pneumatic clamps are part of the jig fixtures which hold lumber components into a truss preformed shape. Connector plates or nail plates are pressed into the component ends by the press head assemblies in order to complete fabrication of the building truss.

  • Patent number: 4643087
Abstract: A system for monitoring the fullness of a compactor waste receiving container utilizes the back pressure generated by the compacted waste for determining the fullness of the container. The compactor ram is stopped when in the forward compacting position and the pressure exerted by the waste on the ram is monitored for thereby determining the fullness of the container. The system further includes a timer for monitoring the time required for displacement of the ram. Should the ram fail to attain the waste compacted position within a pre-determined time period then the hydraulic system is shut down and an indicator is lit in order to show to the operator that the container is full.

  • Patent number: 4572065
Abstract: Method and apparatus which reduces the charger height and the total cycle time when packing leaf or stripped tobacco by the two fill approach. When the first fill is completed, an air pressure differential is established across the tobacco in the charger from top to bottom, the pressure differential compacting the tobacco to make room for the second fill. The second fill is then supplied and the two fills are compacted into the compression chamber by the packer ram. The air pressure differential is established by providing a volume of air under pressure between the press head of the ram and the tobacco of the first fill and withdrawing air from the bottom of the charger, and withdrawal of air is continued during the second fill and the compression stroke of the ram.
