Patent number: 6647989Abstract: A device for use in hair treatment comprises a tube (10) having a wall constructed of elements (11, 12) extending in a direction inclined to the length of the tube, or a wall constructed of interwoven fibres (11, 12). As a result of its construction when the tube is contracted from an elongate state to a contracted state, the transverse dimension of the tube increases to permit insertion of a tress of hair through the tube. After insertion of the hair through the tube, the tube is extended which causes the transverse dimension to decrease and compress together the hairs of the tress. The tube is then manipulated into a desired form to thereby impart a required form to the tress of hair. The tube may be performed in the desired form and after insertion of the tress of hair is permitted to revert to the desired form. Restraints (521, 522) may be applied to the tube and hair contained therein and then the tube between the restraints is contracted lengthwise to cause the transverse dimension thereof to increase.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2001Date of Patent: November 18, 2003Inventor: Alfredo De Benedictis

The hair styling apparatus includes a wire center core spirally wound with a fabric strip such that the fabric strip acts as a sheath to substantially cover the wire center core. The wire center core is sized to be flexible so a user may bend or wind the hair styling apparatus as desired while having sufficient stiffness to retain the desired shape. The hair styling apparatus may be further enhanced by the addition of an elastic loop at one end to allow grouping a bundle of hair as in a pony tail. Additionally, the ends of the hair styling apparatus may be adorned with beads or other ornaments that are interchangeable with use of threaded end connections. Several methods of use for such a novel hair styling apparatus are shown.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1999Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Inventors: Maria G. Schirren, Maria L. Flores

Patent number: 6260555Abstract: A braid and ponytail holder consisting of a panel formed from flexible material such as leather. Pairs of rivet-on lacing studs are attached to the panel near its opposing edges of the panel so that, when the panel is curled to form a tubular sheath, the two studs are adjacent to one another. A lacing strand which is captured by the outwardly extending hook portion of each of the lacing studs draws the studs together so that the sheath surrounds and firmly retains the hair. A clasp, such as a small ring or ferrule, secures the free ends of the lacing strands to secure the holder in place around the braid or ponytail.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2000Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Inventor: Alisa Natvig

Patent number: 6257249Abstract: The present invention is a hair clamp including an elongate, arcuate base having opposed ends and a pair of articulated arms for holding braided or otherwise gathered strands of hair. Each arm is pivotally attached to the base proximate to one of the opposed ends. The arms are independently rotatable between a hair-receiving, or open, position generally perpendicular to the base and a hair-holding, or closed, position generally parallel to the base. The hair clamp also includes biasing means for biasing the arms in the closed position, retaining means for retaining the arms in the open position and releasing means for releasing the arms to rotate under the influence of the biasing means from the open position to the closed position. The biasing means preferably is a torsion spring positioned between each of the arms and the base. The retaining means preferably includes a stop pin depending outwardly from each of the arms and a corresponding mechanical stop.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1999Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Inventors: Samuel L. Patent number: 6253772Abstract: A hair sculpting device having an elongated member with first and second free end portions and a middle portion. Universal coupling means are disposed proximate the first and second tree end portions and at least one intermediate location along the middle portion. The universal coupling means are adapted to allow the first and second free end portions and the intermediate location to be selectively coupled. The universal coupling means can be further used to couple the device to one or more additional devices, thereby allowing a user to configure the device(s) as a function of the hair length or form. In an exemplary embodiment, the universal coupling means includes a female portion having a closed loop and a male portion having adjacent first and second flexible prongs. Each of the first and second flexible prongs has an outwardly projecting shoulder portion adapted to retain the male portion in the female portion.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1999Date of Patent: July 3, 2001Inventors: Synneve Chambers, Mark Walker Rhodes

Patent number: 6237610Abstract: This invention relates to a structure of variably assembled hair bands, more specifically, to hair bands with pins and matching holes for assembling hair bands of various patterns and colors to form various combined hair bands. A plurality of pins and corresponding holes are provided at opposite end portions on two sides of adjacent hair bands, so that the pair of the adjacent hair bands may be assembled to form an integrated hair band by matching the pins and the holes. With this design, several hair bands with different patterns or colors can be assembled together to form an integrated hair band according to personal taste, and can also be used separately as single bands. A demand on both variations and low cost is achieved.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2000Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Designs By Skaffles, Inc.Inventor: Lisbeth Trevisan
