  • Patent number: 9827810
Abstract: A connection stabilizing mechanism between a solid tire and a bicycle rim. The connection stabilizing mechanism includes multiple fastening members connecting a solid tire with a bicycle rim. Each of the fastening members has a plate-shaped base section engaged with the bicycle rim and an extension section inserted into the solid tire. A free end of the extension section is inserted into the solid tire. A ratio of an extension length of the extension sect ion to a tire height of the solid tire is between 1:1.5 and 1:2.6, thereby maintaining a relative position of the center of a main body of the solid tire relative to the rim. Thus, the solid tire is prevented from being detached from the rim due to excessive lateral movement of the central position of the main body of the solid tire.

  • Patent number: 9751270
Abstract: The present invention provides an annular beam of monolithic construction of one homogeneous material and a related efficient, low-cost non-pneumatic tire. Specific geometric design, combined with nonlinear elastomer physical properties, enable the suppression of all reinforcing belts, continuous fibers, or other strengthening layers in the annular beam. The annular beam consists of at least two bands that are continuous in the circumferential direction and connected by a web geometry. The non-pneumatic tire consists of the annular beam, a ground contacting portion, a central wheel, and a plurality of web spokes that connect the wheel and beam. When the tire is loaded to a design load against a flat surface over a design contact length, a contact area of essentially uniform pressure is produced, while the load is transmitted from the beam to the hub via tension in the web spokes. The tire can be economically manufactured.

Abstract: The present turbine fan rim, turbine fan airless tire and turbine fan hubcap designs are configured to remove air from under the underside of a moving vehicle when rotated in a particular direction, typically in a forward direction. This air movement can create a vacuum below the vehicle, which can create a down force on the vehicle increasing traction between the vehicle's tires and the road surface and lowering the vehicle's center of gravity. This downward force and partial vacuum can thus increase as the rotational velocity of the tires increases, providing greater traction at higher speeds. An additional benefit to these wheel, airless tire, and hubcap designs is the cooling effect that would be created by the flowing air on brake parts that are located near wheels of nearly all vehicles.

  • Patent number: 8651156
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved shear band for use in non-pneumatic tires, pneumatic tires, and other technologies. The improved shear band is uniquely constructed of honeycomb shaped units that can replace the elastomeric continuum materials such as natural or synthetic rubber or polyurethane that are typically used. In particular, honeycomb structures made of high modulus materials such as metals or polycarbonates are used that provide the desired shear strains and shear modulus when subjected to stress. When used in tire construction, improvements in rolling resistance can be obtained because of less mass being deformed and reduced hysteresis provided by these materials. The resulting mass of the shear band is greatly reduced if using low density materials. Higher density materials can be used (such as metals) without increasing mass while utilizing their characteristic low energy loss.

  • Publication number: 20120223497
Abstract: Pneumatic tires made of a flexible elastomer material are well established for vehicles on paved roads. However, in many instances paved roads are in the minority, a rarity, or non-existent. Further many applications of motorized vehicles occur permanently off paved or unpaved surfaces where terrain is not solid but loose. Elsewhere compacted snow, very low temperatures, rocky environments, and mud present issues to pneumatic tires as does increasing vehicle weight which requires the load to be distributed across multiple wheels. It would be beneficial to have a tire that allowed for an expansion of the design space for tires that addresses the issues discussed above in a wide range of lunar and planetary environments with high load bearing. Such a tire is presented employing flexible particulate filled designs for improved drawbar pull, lateral resistance, hill climb potential, rolling resistance, and terrain accommodation.

Abstract: The invention provides a non-pneumatic tire which can improve a riding quality, a noise performance and the like while improving a durability, and can further sufficiently suppress a buckling of a ground portion between spokes, because a circumferential fluctuation of a tire rigidity is hard to be generated due to a positional relationship between a spoke position and a center position of the ground surface, and a strain can be dispersed into each of portions of a support structure body.
