  • Patent number: 4683023
Abstract: A machine for applying an adhesive pad to the ends of semiconductor device packages includes a punch assembly, a tape feed assembly, and a package feed assembly. The tape is incrementally fed to the punch assembly where semiconductor packages are individually brought into alignment. The punch assembly first shears an adhesive pad from the tape and thereafter applies the pad to the package. The punch member of the punch assembly includes a resilient tip which assures that the tape is securely attached to the package and helps prevent damage to the package. Semiconductor device packages having such taped ends are less likely to be damaged in subsequent processing and handling.

  • Patent number: 4640731
Abstract: Apparatus for applying tape to a forwardly traveling carton includes a first projecting tape applicator which lies in the path of carton travel. As the carton strikes the first applicator, tape is applied to the carton front panel, the traveling carton depressing the applicator to allow it to apply and wipe tape around the corner formed by the front panel and onto a horizontal panel. A push finger carried on the tape applicator engages for a time with a tape cutter. On engagement of the push finger with a cam near completion of unit depression travel, the finger disengages the cutter and releases it to sever a tape length from the tape supply. A roller in the depressed applicator unit wipes the severed tape length along the horizontal panel for the length that the tape extends along the panel. A second tape applicator unit which moves from projecting to depressed position in tandem with the first unit is located downstream of the first applicator.

Individual layer site alignment ensures that each layer site is aligned with respect to the die cavity so that the dimensional tolerances between layer sites on the large area green sheet are eliminated. Thus, as large a green sheet as is cost effective may be employed, notwithstanding the fact that dimensional distortions on the large area green sheet would preclude alignment of corresponding layer site vias on superimposed large area green sheets.

  • Patent number: 4014734
Abstract: A device for forming lengths of adhesive tape into tubes including a mandrel having an axis and a multiplicity of radially outwardly projecting resilient bristles having tips defining at least the major portion of a periphery around the axis in the shape of a tube to be formed. The tape is wrapped around the periphery of the mandrel and the ends of the tape overlapped to form a tube having an axially extending seam. A ring is then pressed against one end of the formed tube to slide it axially off of the bristles and mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4001064
Abstract: A manual strapping tool for joining overlapping portions of a thermoplastic strap includes a cantilevered spring having fixed and vibratory ends. The fixed end is rigidly anchored to a base member and the vibratory end supports one of a pair of jaws having opposing strap gripping surfaces. The other jaw is fixedly positioned on the base so that the strap gripping surfaces are normally in confronting engagement. An operating handle is pivotally mounted on the base member and swingable from a start position through a strap compressing position and a strap sealing position. In the start position, a lifter cam on the operating handle engages a lift arm causing the arm to raise the vibratory end of the cantilevered spring and to separate the strap gripping surfaces so that overlapping strap portions can be inserted therebetween.

  • Patent number: 3994651
Abstract: While a series of hollow moulded articles interconnected by waste portions are successively moulded by a rotary moulding machine and are continuously conveyed by a pair of conveyors, the waste portions are removed from one end of each of the articles by applying a twisting force to the waste portions by means of cutter means. The waste portions are removed from the other end of each of the articles, and then such ends may be sealed.

  • Patent number: 3988193
Abstract: This taping attachment or device applies a ribbon or adhesive-coated tape to an article moving relatively thereto, such as around a coil of strip material being wound upon a rotating mandrel, in order to prevent subsequent unwinding of the coil. This taping attachment or device consists of a tape roll holder mounted above the carrier for the article to be taped, such as a mandrel, adjacent a reciprocatory fluid pressure motor. The latter includes a piston rod having mounted on its lower end a pivoted tape applicator with a tape cutter thereon urged or positively driven in a downward tape-severing direction.

  • Patent number: 3957567
Abstract: An apparatus for splicing together two large sheets of material, e.g., seismic sections, where one operator can carry out the splicing operation. The apparatus is comprised of a work surface onto which the material is positioned and held in place by vacuum and mechanical means. A carriage, mounted on guide means which extend across the work surface, has a knife which cuts the material along a desired line as the carriage moves in a first direction and adhesive dispensing means to apply tape to the material along said desired line as the carriage moves in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 3954550
Abstract: A device for applying lengths of adhesive coated tape from a supply length of tape to seal boxes driven along a path past the device. The device includes an application roller initially positioned in the path and supporting an end of the tape for contact by a box to adhere the tape to its leading surface. The application roller is mounted so that, subsequent to such contact, it will be revolved against the bias of a spring and will roll over tape being pulled from the device to press the tape against the surfaces of the box as the box is driven further along the path.

  • Patent number: 3940307
Abstract: This invention is a method and apparatus for securing snap fasteners to supporting material. An aperture is formed in the supporting material and the socket or stud of the fastener, as the case may be, is allowed to project through the aperture. The supporting material is then heat sealed to the fastener around the aperture. Preferably, both the supporting material and the snap fasteners are made of heatsealable, thermoplastic material.

  • Patent number: 3937645
Abstract: This apparatus provides a means of sealing a plastic film cover over the open end of a plastic food container to render the container airtight and suitable for storage in a dispensing machine. The apparatus is self-contained and includes a base which carries a resiliently mounted support frame for the container, and a spindle-less dispensing frame for the film. A lever arm is pivotally mounted to the base rearwardly of the container support frame for swinging movement toward and away from the support frame. The lever carries a heat sealing head located forwardly of the pivot mounting for alignment with the container during heat sealing, and a cutter located rearwardly of the heat sealing head for clamping and severing the film adjacent the container support frame just prior to heat sealing. The heat sealing head includes a platen having peripheral margin portions registrable with the container flanges and grooved to provide improved heat sealing of the film to the container.

  • Patent number: 3930927
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for dispensing discrete lengths of a double-coated adhesive tape onto a substrate. The device has a housing with one open side. An applicating drum with a plurality of flat applicating surfaces disposed about its circumference is rotatably mounted inside the housing near one end. A roll of double-coated adhesive tape is supported in the housing, the tape being pulled off the supply roll as the drum rotates. A base is attached to the housing extending along the open side of said housing and has an opening through which an applicating surface can pass. Means rotate the applicating drum upon movement of the housing toward and away from the base to bring an applicating surface bearing double-coated tape into an applicating position where the cutting means sever a short length of the double-coated tape and transfers the tape to a substrate.
