Abstract: A sheet separator is so arranged as to cover both surfaces of an electrode plate, and a heating plate is applied along a to-be-bonded edge of the separator, thereby achieving bonding by thermal welding. The heating plate has a width corresponding to a width of a bonded portion of the separator. Then, by pressing a protrusion of the heating plate or a heating plate for cutting against substantially the central part of the bonded portion, local heat transfer takes place to sublime a resin component, whereby the separator is cut off. Thereupon, the pouch-shaped separator is attached to the electrode plate.

Abstract: A continuous form assembly of ultrasonically weldable sleeve blanks formed by an elongated flexible web has a longitudinal series of pairs of transversely spaced apart and generally longitudinally extending slits therethrough, each pair of slits partially defining an associated sleeve blank. Pin feed aperture formed in the longitudinally extending marginal portions of the web cooperate with a tractor feed mechanism of a sleeve forming apparatus to intermittently advance the web through the apparatus. An electrical conductor or groups of conductors manually fed into the apparatus engage the web and form an associated blank into a loop surrounding the conductor or group of conductors. Ultrasonic sealing and severing jaws simultaneously join opposite end portions of the sleeve blank together in assembly to form a tubular sleeve surrounding an associated portion of the individual conductor or a group of conductors and simultaneously sever the formed sleeve from the web.

Abstract: The tear-strips are formed by transverse cutting of a sheet material by a cutter with a rotary blade, of which the blade cooperates with counter-blades carried by a rotary member. Once formed, each tear-strip is held on the respective counter-blade, for example, by means of a vacuum, so that it can be transferred to a sheet of wrapping material. The tear-strip is applied to the wrapping material transversely by the combined action of the counter-blade and of a striker block carried by a further rotary member disposed on the opposite side of the sheet material. The sheet material can thus advance at a constant speed throughout the process of applying the tear-strips. The preferred use is for automatic packaging machines for products such as food products.

Abstract: Apparatus and a method for production of laminated electronic or electrical devices are described which enables one thin patterned or unpatterned substrate to be easily and accurately incorporated into a previous stack of substrates by registration of a coated tape from which the substrate is excised. In the present invention the tape is indexed to a fixed position and then a platen with the previously stacked substrates is brought into registration with the stationary tape, following which the substrate is excised from the coated tape and added to the stack of substrates. Since the tape always is positioned in the equipment as indexed at the same location with each indexing step, and since once indexed the tape does not move, the platen can be brought into accurate alignment and registration with the tape.

Abstract: Dies are used in forming a pack of self-opening plastic T-shirt bags for use with a bagging rack. Each plastic bag in the pack of bags has a mouth tab portion between its two upwardly extending handles, which are at the sides of the mouth of the T-shirt bags. The mouth tab portion is located on the front and rear walls in the mouth region of the plastic bags. The mouth tab portion has an aperture for receiving a retaining projection of a bagging rack. Frangible pressure bonding is formed along the perimeter of the mouth tab aperture. Flapless handle apertures are also formed in the handles, with frangible pressure bonds formed along their perimeter edges. Due to the frangible bonding formed between adjacent bags, as a frontmost bag is removed from the pack of bags on the bagging rack, the next bag in the pack of bags will automatically self-open into a open position for loading with merchandise.

  • Patent number: 5655284
Abstract: An apparatus and method for preparing the end of a cable which may be used in the fabrication of a Category 5 patch cord cable assembly. The apparatus includes a cable clamp subassembly and bonding members located between wire combs that position the cable wires side by side. The wires are bonded by heating elements located in the bonding members. These heating elements comprise wires mounted on a printed circuit board. The printed circuit board heater members can be replaced so that wires with different insulation and/or different sizes can be prepared by the tool. Exposed wire pairs are untwisted and laced in the wire combs. A cable clamp prevents the portion of the wires remaining in the cable jacket from untwisting. An insert is placed between two of the wires and the other six wires to improve near end crosstalk performance. The upper bonding subassembly is then rotated into place and the ends of the wires are bonded. The cable clamp is then shifted, moving the wires, and the wires are cut to length.
