Publication number: 20020121004Abstract: A handle for removing, carrying and otherwise manipulating a device is disclosed. The handle includes features that allow it to engage the mounting rails on other mounting features associated with the device. The handle is constructed such that when properly installed, pulling the handle causes the mounting rails to move both in the direction of the pulling force and perpendicularly thereto, toward each other. This allows the mounting rails to clear security features of the larger assembly, device bay, or housing in which the device is mounted or rests. The invention provides a mechanism to permit the quick and convenient removal of a device that would otherwise require simultaneous manipulation in two different places at the same time the device is pulled away from the larger assembly, device bay, or housing in which the device is mounted or rests.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2001Publication date: September 5, 2002Inventor: Mark D. Feldmeyer

Patent number: 6108871Abstract: An apparatus in connectible to a steering wheel for aiding disabled drivers. The apparatus includes a base having a first part and a second part for moving with a respect to one another. The base defines a steering-wheel-receiving aperture between the first and second parts for allowing the base to substantially sheath a portion of the steering wheel. A hinge connection is formed between the first and second parts of the base allowing pivotal movement with respect to one another. The hinge connection is formed along a common edge portion of the first and second parts for allowing placement of the base with respect to the steering wheel. A latch releasibly retains the first and second parts of the base with respect to one another. The latch is connected to the first and second parts opposite from the hinge axis. A knob is connected to the base for gripping by the driver with one hand for controlling movement of the steering wheel when the base is attached to the steering wheel.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1998Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: Altair Engineering, Inc.Inventors: Lonny E. Patent number: 6094780Abstract: An ergonomic tool handle (21) which is useful for a terminal insertion hand tool, gardening hand tools, knives, box cutters, screwdrivers and other pushing or pulling type hand tools. The tool handle (21) of the present invention is contoured to promote neutral posture between the hand and wrist as well as complementing the shape of the closed hand to distribute longitudinal tool forces evenly throughout the hand and arm of the user. The tool handle (21) accomplishes this neutral posture and contoured fit by featuring a humplike crown (28) which fits snugly into the pocket of the palm, a relatively flat underside (29) around which the user's finger tips (55-57) are wrapped and two sides (51, 52) with convex regions (30, 31) in diagonally offset relation. By moving one's hand up or down the tool handle (21), one size of tool handle (21) can ergonomically fit approximately 95% of male and female hand sizes.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1998Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Department of Health and Human ServicesInventors: James D. Patent number: 6082795Abstract: A leveraged gardening tool device having an elongated body, a hand grip, a forearm receptacle at one end of the elongated body and a gardening tool securing mechanism at the other end of the opposing end of the elongated body for receiving and maintaining the shaft of a small gardening tool. The elongated body has an upper portion and a lower portion, the upper and lower portions being separated by an approximate 195.degree. bend in the elongated body. The bend is provided for optimal one-handed use of the gardening tool and results in a decrease in the amount of fatigue traditionally encountered when using a conventional hand-held gardening tool. One embodiment of the invention allows for an assortment of removably engageable gardening tools for use with the gardening tool.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1999Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Inventor: Joseph C. Patent number: 6049948Abstract: A new handle for carrying a bag for distributing the weight of the contents of the bag across the hand of a user. The inventive device includes a saddle member that has a top, a bottom, a pair of end edges, and a pair of side edges that extend between the end edges. A pair of sides upwardly extend from the side edges of the saddle member to form a bag receiving channel between them such that a carrying loop of a bag, or a plurality of carrying loops of one or several bags, rests on the top of the saddle member between the sides of the saddle member. A cover member covers the saddle member and is removably coupleable to the saddle member. The cover member has first and second ends, upper and lower surfaces extending between the first and second ends, and a pair of opposite sidewalls that downwardly extend from the lower surface of the cover member.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1998Date of Patent: April 18, 2000Inventor: Stefano A. Patent number: RE37190Abstract: A universal handle for household and other hand-held implements, the handle being adapted to ergonomically render the implement to which it is applied useable by individuals who have difficulty in firmly grasping a conventional handle. The universal handle, which is fabricated of elastomeric material having good thermal insulation and cushioning properties, includes an internal cavity to socket the core shank of the implement. The handle has an elliptical cross section, the opposing sides of the handle adjacent its upper end each having a concave depression, in each of which an array of spaced, flexible fins is anchored to define a depressible grip site. When the fingers of a user's hand are clenched about the handle, the internal region of the resultant fist conforms to the form of the handle to provide a good grip thereon, the thumb and forefinger pressing into the grip sites to enhance the user's grip on the handle.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1992Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: General Housewares Corp.Inventors: Davin Stowell, Michael Callahan
