    Abstract: A hydraulic jar includes a tubular housing having central bore and an exterior. The housing includes a passage from the central bore to the exterior. A mandrel is axially movable within the housing, forming an annular space between the mandrel and the housing that includes a timing fluid. The mandrel includes an interior axial space that permits the flow of a drilling fluid. A timing device is fixed to the mandrel in the annular space. A trigger is capable of blocking the flow of drilling fluid through the axial space in the mandrel, and the mandrel moves axially in the housing when the trigger engages the mandrel. The timing device causes the mandrel to move at a first speed and at a second speed to create the impulse. The drilling fluid exits the central bore through the opening after the mandrel moves past the opening.

A cement tube flows low-viscosity fluid through the whipstock to set a hydraulically actuable anchor and to transmit fluid cement further downhole in order to set a cement plug. A latch dog releasably associates the running tool with the whipstock. The latch dog disengages the running tool from the whipstock after the anchor is set. The running tool and cement tube can be raised a designed distance using a first pull tension, indicating that the cement tube is not restrained and that therefore an operation to pump cement to form a cement plug below the assembly may be executed. Following the cementing operation, a greater pull tension can be applied to release the cement tube from the whipstock, permitting complete withdrawal of the reusable running tool and cement tube from the wellbore.

A drilling rig turns drill pipe with sufficient down pressure being applied to a drill bit to drill a large diameter borehole. Initially drilling mud flows down the annulus between the drill pipe and borehole, then back up the drill pipe. An air pressure line in the drill pipe creates a suction at the drill bit. Direction of flow of drilling mud is reversed when the drill pipe is replaced with casing. Cuttings and heavy mud are removed from the borehole by bi-directionally rotating a casing while reciprocating up and down near a bottom of the borehole. When the desired mud weight and viscosity is reached, mud flow is stopped and cement is applied through a tremie tube.

Internal sealing reduces leak-off from filtercake damage, and also eliminates build-up of surface filtercake. Sealing the pore-structure of a particular wellbore zone alleviates the need for additional lost circulation material, resulting in a very thin filtercake and significantly reducing the chance of differential sticking. Oil-based muds can be replaced with water-based equivalents.
