  • Patent number: 9518440
Abstract: A bridge plug with a selectively blocked flow passage is delivered on wireline and pumped down to the desired location and set. A casing pressure test can be performed above the bridge plug while shielding the formation below from excess pressure from the pressure test. To the extent there are producing zones below the bridge plug or adjacent injection wells that could communicate with the borehole, the plug isolates those pressures from below. After the pressure test is completed, a rupture disc is blown in a passage through the bridge plug and flow is then used to deliver completion equipment to a horizontal portion of the borehole and preferably on wireline.

  • Patent number: 9435188
Abstract: A method of installing a pressure transducer in a borehole to measure the fluid prepare of a geological formation. The pressure transducer is installed into the borehole at a desired depth, and then the borehole is filled with a cement grout. The fluid connection between the pressure transducer and the formation is opened by pumping a fluid through tubing to displace the cement grout. A process of hydrofracture can be employed to provide a communication path of fluid between the formation and the pressure transducer surrounded by the fractured grout. In one embodiment of the invention, a pressure transducer is cemented into the borehole along with a check and pressure relief valve. In another embodiment, the pressure transducer is installed in the tubing at a subsequent stage.

  • Patent number: 9409821
Abstract: Particulate polymeric materials may be added to a cement slurry to adjust the linear thermal-expansion coefficient of the set cement. The coefficient of the set cement is optimized by considering the linear thermal-expansion coefficient of the casing, as well as the mechanical properties of the formation rock. When placed in a subterranean well having at least one casing string, cement sheaths with optimal linear thermal-expansion coefficients may be subjected to lower compressive and tensile stresses during downhole-temperature changes. Such cement slurries are particularly advantageous in the context of thermal-recovery wells.

Abstract: A single trip method allows for perforation, cleaning the annular space around the perforations in an existing tubular and then delivering a sealing material through a combination tool that is used for cleaning and then sealing. For sealing the tool is positioned by the lowermost perforations with a bypass around spaced seals that straddle the outlet port for the sealant. There is an open bypass through the tool and around the spaced seals as the sealant is delivered so that the sealant goes above and below the spaced seals. The open bypass allows the tool to be repositioned as the sealant is delivered. The tool is removed with the string. A separate through passage is selectively opened for removing excess sealant in conjunction with the bypass passages. The sealant can be squeezed with a seal on the string to effectively close the bypass letting pressure through the through passage squeeze.

Abstract: An apparatus for use in launching cement plugs in a well cementing operation comprises a cylinder, a piston slideably received in the bore of the cylinder and an actuator extending from the piston through the cylinder. The actuator is operable by the piston for launching plugs from the apparatus into the well. A resilient damper cartridge is slideably mounted on the actuator in the cylinder so as to be contactable by the piston. A series of frangible pins is located in the cylinder wall so as to provide temporary limits to the movement of the cartridge in the cylinder as the piston slides along the cylinder.
