Abstract: A motor grader can be adapted for laying down a layer of granular material such as base rock or cold mix asphalt by mounting a dispensing hopper attachment onto the front of the motor grader and a spreading and leveling screed onto the moldboard. As the motor grader advances, it pushes a dump truck that continuously loads materials into the hopper. Those materials are in turn continuously discharged at a metered rate of flow through the bottom of the hopper and onto the roadbed. The cylinders are preferrably pressurized by grease and a grease fitting is provided for each cylinder to provide with convenient access, to allow service by the operator. Preferrably the cylinders are located in a generally closed cavity between the bearing support holder and the slide bearing.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for high speed grading a road in a single pass. The grader including a frame supported above a surface. At least one blade is pivotally fixed to the frame, and is positionable to engage the surface. A first biasing mechanism biases the blade toward a forward position. At least one leveling board is pivotally fixed to the frame, and is positionable to engage the surface rearwardly of the blade. A second biasing mechanism biases the leveling board toward a forward position. A packing mechanism is fixed rearwardly of the leveling board, and is positionable to engage the surface.

  • Patent number: 6324775
Abstract: A mid-chassis, underbody plow or scrapper blade is mounted under a vehicle chassis to be folded upwardly for storage when not in use. The blade is also mounted to permit the outer ends of the blade to move vertically. Pneumatic pressure actuators mounted on either side of the center line of the vehicle apply pressure through pivot arms to the respective ends of the blade to control the scrapping action. The support structure for the blade swings upwardly to achieve a two-stage storage which increases the elevation of the blade when folded.

  • Patent number: 6269885
Abstract: The position of the blade of a motor grader is controlled to maintain a smoothly graded surface even when the grader's front wheels travel over undulating ungraded ground. This is accomplished by sensing the degree to which the grader frame pivots with respect to the rear wheels and employing the pivot angle to derive the resultant change in blade position. That change is used to operate a mechanism that produces movement of the blade relative to the earth thereby compensating for effects of the pivoting action.

  • Patent number: 5782016
Abstract: A scraper apparatus is disclosed for mounting under a body of a truck. The apparatus includes a table having a forward and a trailing end. The forward end is pivotally secured to the body of the truck. The arrangement is such that the table is permitted to pitch relative to the body of the truck. A bearing is secured to the table and is disposed between the forward and the trailing ends. A mold board scraper is disposed below and supported by the table with the mold board scraper being rotatably secured to the table by the bearing. A hydraulic cylinder secured to the mold board scraper rotates the scraper relative to the table and an actuator pivots the table for controlling the pitch of the table and the mold board secured to the table so that scraping of snow, ice and gravel regardless of the level thereof relative to the truck is permitted.
