And Rotatably Driven Drum Pulling Thereon Patents (Class 187/254)
  • Patent number: 5433294
Abstract: A geared traction elevator includes a worm shaft, supported by a pair of tapered roller bearings in a gear box housing, one end of which projects out of an opening in the gear box housing and is coupled to the motor. The motor end bearing assembly is secured against axial movement by a retainer ring, which is secured in a groove in the gear box housing, and the motor end of the worm shaft is sealed by a dynamic seal, also secured in the housing. A cap bears against the bearings at the other end of the shaft, to pre-load the bearings to a predetermine level. In this manner, the dynamic seal may be replaced without affecting the pre-load setting. Preferably, the bearings are disposed in openings at opposite ends of the gear box housing which are large enough to allow the worm shaft to be removed through either end. The arrangement simplifies the manufacture of the gear box, and reduces the time and parts necessary to replace the dynamic seal.

  • Patent number: 5429211
Abstract: The traction sheave elevator comprises an elevator car (1) moving along elevator guide rails (10), a counterweight (2) moving along counterweight guide rails (11), a set of hoisting ropes (3) on which the elevator car and the counterweight are suspended, and a drive machine unit (6) comprising a traction sheave (7) driven by the drive machine and engaging the hoisting ropes (3). The drive machine unit (6) of the elevator is placed in the top part of the elevator shaft (15) in the space between the shaft space needed by the elevator car on its path and/or its overhead extension and a wall of the elevator shaft (15).

  • Patent number: 5353894
Abstract: The input axle (1) of an elevator machine transmits a rotational movement to an output axle (13) by means of a conventional worm gear/ring gear device (10), (11) or similar device, the output axle (13) penetrating a sheave (12) which carries the cable that suspends a cabin. The output axle (13) is supported by at only two points (3,4) which are collateral to the sheave (12), and has a projecting end that penetrates and supports the ring gear (11).
