  • Patent number: 5727254
Abstract: Resistive exercise pants optimize resistance and enhance breathability by limiting the number of resistive bands in aligned coordination with the muscles of the leg. Additionally, hand stirrups are set forth that provide better attachment of resistive exercise sleeves to the extremities. In the resistive exercise pants, a single, wide band or two spaced-apart resistive bands generally traverse the length of the leg from the hips to a heel stirrup. Suspenders provide attachment of the resistive exercise pants to the shoulders, thereby holding the length of the body in dynamic tension. In the preferred embodiment, pairs of resistive bands run the length of each pant leg along the front and back in alignment with the leg's long muscles. The front pair of resistive bands bifurcate adjacent the knee to conformedly curve about the calf and to form a heel stirrup with the rear pair of resistive bands.

  • Patent number: 5727256
Abstract: A ventilated garment system is described that removes heat and moisture from a wearer's skin during hot weather while furnishing protection from direct sunlight. The system includes a pair of air outlet shoulder seams, a pair of air inlet side seams, and selectively at least one back seam, each shoulder seam including a zipper slide and a zipper tape, attached along welts to the fabric of the garment, and an underlying panel of stretchable mesh fabric, having a pleat therein, whereby movement of the zipper slides in the seams causes them to open and expose the panels of mesh fabric. Ambient air then enters the side and back seams into ventilation spaces between the garment and the skin of a wearer, moves convectively upwardly within the ventilation spaces toward the shoulder seams while receiving heat and moisture from the wearer's skin, and passes through the shoulder seams, thereby exiting the garment system and carrying away the heat and moisture.

  • Patent number: 5708976
Abstract: A resistive exercise suit has a resistive shirt and resistive exercise trousers. The resistive exercise shirt uses tension bands on sleeve fronts and backs and attachment to central elastic blocks on the front and back of the shirt. Both the tension bands and the elastic blocks are incorporated into the shirt and provide means by which resistance can be made against arm movements. Thumb stirrups form the sleeve ends and serve as means by which the hands may engage the tension bands and apply resistance against the arms and their muscles. The tension bands may be adjustably attached to the elastic blocks. The thumb stirrups may also be adjustable. Front and back flaps form an adjustably attachable shirttail that may pass between the wearer's legs in order to ensure a snug and secure fit of the resistive exercise shin to the wearer. Connection of the front and back flaps ensure that the resistive exercise shirt does not ride up on the wearer.

  • Patent number: 5692239
Abstract: A sleeve holder for securing a drawn-up sleeve of a garment is described. Also described is the sleeved garment into which the sleeve holder is incorporated. The sleeve holder has an epaulet strap which is secured to the shirt at the shoulder and projects down the sleeve. Cooperating connectors operate such that when the wearer pulls up the sleeve the connectors engage and hold the sleeve in the drawn-up position. When the wearer wants to return the sleeve to its fully extended normal position, the connectors are disengaged and the sleeve falls to its normal length. The connectors can be cooperating button and button hold, snap elements or, preferably, hook-and-loop fabric strips, especially when oriented at right angles to each other. Use of the sleeve holder prevents a sleeve from interfering with the wearer's activities or becoming soiled or entangled during those activities.

  • Patent number: 5688137
Abstract: An athletic training device to keep an athlete's arms or legs in a releasably fixed position adjacent to the athlete's torso. The device is primarily for boxing, but has application in any sport where a "ready" position requires arms or legs to be held in a certain position in close proximity to the torso, prior to extending them in competition. The device consists of patches on the arms and on the torso which releasably engage each other utilizing material such as a velcro-type hook and loop assembly. The patches may be held on the torso and arms by separate vests or sleeves, or may be attached to one unitary garment such as a shirt. The position in which the arms or other extremities are held against the torso may be adjusted by placement of the removably engagable patches. The removably engagable feature allows the device to be worn in practice competition, because it holds the arms in appropriate "ready" position but, upon release, allows a full range of motion without incumbrance.

  • Patent number: 5371657
Abstract: An illuminated fabric article (10) includes a flexible substrate sheet (34) to which conductive ink traces (38) and lights (20) attach. The substrate sheet (34) has a low resilience so as not to press against skin (12) after it wrinkles or otherwise deforms to accommodate body (14) curves and movement. A cloth material having a thin flexible polymer film (40) applied over a woven cloth backing (42) represents one example of a suitable substrate sheet (34). A conductive ink which remains flexible after curing is applied to the substrate sheet (34) to form the conductive traces (38), which convey electrical energization to the lights (20). Each light (20) attaches to the substrate sheet (34) and to the conductive traces (38) through the use of a non-conductive adhesive patch (64) and two conductive adhesive patches (66). The lights (20) on the substrate sheet (34) are arranged to be visible from an exterior side (28) of a textile ( 26) so that they may be visually perceived from a distance.

  • Patent number: 5308275
Abstract: A garment having an amusement device in the form of a puppet being integrally a part thereof and attached to the sleeves of the garment. The puppet is formed from the sleeve of a garment having two distinct layers of material which are attached at one end. A first layer extends into a second layer wherein the first layer is attached to the second layer at the end of the sleeve through which the hand extends. The interior end of the second inner layer is substantially unattached to the outer layer. Because of the substantially unattached interior end, an upper and a lower cavity is formed within the sleeve between the two layers of material. Accordingly, the fingers of the hand may be placed in the upper and lower cavities for manipulating the end of the sleeve and forming a puppet. When desired, the inside layer can be folded outwardly to form a cuff such that the puppet is hidden from view. Upon unfolding the cuff, the puppet is exposed.

  • Patent number: 5303425
Abstract: The inflatable clothing apparatus is designed to provide an inflatable (on position) and deflatable (off position) convection cooled clothing. The apparatus contains a spiralled inner tubular structure attached to the inner portion of the shirt and the inner tubular structure has separate expansion points connected by the air tube. When the expansion points are inflated lifting the shirt away from the skin and opening the cooling flap at the lower rear portion of the shirt, air circulation increases to the skins surface by allowing air to convect upward from the lower flap out through the neck opening. Air passages are also located in the shoulder and upper back area. A release mechanism (valve) is provided to allow deflation of the expansion points in order to provide warmth for the user by closing the flap and having the shirt contact the skin.
