  • Patent number: 5897788
Abstract: A method and apparatus to clean a filter drum used for thickening lime mud. The drum is rotated about a horizontal axis in a first direction so that the circumferential surface of the drum moves into contact with lime mud in a vat and a precoat layer formed on the drum, as well as an external layer of lime mud which forms a thickened lime mud cake when a vacuum is applied to the drum withdrawing liquid from the lime mud. The thickened external layer of lime mud cake is scraped from the drum at a second side of the vat, and at a first opposite side of the vat a first jet of liquid is directed onto the drum surface (e.g. at a pressure of about 30-100 bar) to remove a strip of the precoat layer, a third jet of liquid cleans the drum after removal of the precoat layer, and a second jet of liquid is directed onto the drum with sufficient intensity (e.g. a pressure of about 2-20 bar) to remove, by spreading and partially detaching, a strip from the thickened lime mud cake.

Abstract: Centrifugal filtration capable of improving recovery of crystal in a baskey. The basket is so arranged that a central axis thereof is inclined with respect to a horizontal direction to obliqely downwardly orientate a bottom wall of the basket. A crystal recovery auction pipe is arranged which includes a pivotally movable section pivotally moved in the basket, of which a distal end is advanced into crystal in the basket. Crystal in the basket is recovered by suction through the distal end of the suction pipe, which is ultimately displaced to a corner of the basket between a lowermost portion of a peripheral wall of the basket and a bottom wall thereof. This permits crystal collected to a lowermost section of the basket to be substantially recovered by suction through the suction pipe, to thereby improve crystal recovery.

Abstract: A magnetic separator for purifying coolant including sludge mainly comprising needle-shaped chips for the purpose of recycling. A comb-type guide plate formed of a magnetic substance material is provided before a squeezing roller, in such a manner that convex and concave portions are in conformity with the magnetic lines of force produced by the arrangement of magnets of a fixed magnet-group cylinder stored in a rotary cylinder. Thus, magnetic flux curtains are formed between the convex portions and the rotary cylinder. Needle-shaped chips which have come as attracted sludge standing in the shape of a jet on the outer peripheral surface of the rotary cylinder are interrupted from going ahead by the magnetic flux curtains, and become accumulated sludge, and are led to lying attracted sludge on the left and right sides. Thus, the attracted sludge is prevented from stabbing a squeezing roller, and operations of extracting liquid from the sludge are continued without causing any trouble.

  • Patent number: 5330645
Abstract: Apparatus for continuously separating a solid fraction from a liquid fraction in a mixture of such fractions has a stationary cylindrical vessel which is filled with the mixture and confines a rotary carrier as well as a battery of parallel disc-shaped filters mounted on and rotating with the carrier. The filters define internal chambers for separated liquid fraction and have foraminous walls which flank the respective chambers and intercept the solid fraction. The intercepted solid fraction is removed by stationary devices having receptacles immersed in the mixture, defining internal compartments for solid fraction and carrying sealing elements which prevent penetration of mixture from the internal space of the vessel into the compartments. The separated liquid fraction is evacuated fom the vessel through a channel in the carrier, and the solid fraction is evacuated from the internal compartments by suction and/or mechanically.

  • Patent number: 5326470
Abstract: A screen basket with greater structural integrity and fatigue resistance is mounted within a screening apparatus with substantially no axial compressive loading. The screen basket has end portions attached to a pair of support members with screen basket position engagement elements or fasteners to place the screen basket in a condition with no substantial axial compressive load. The screen basket, supported in this way, remains stationary when exposed to high hydrodynamic torsional forces and reduces the magnitude of deflections and bending stresses placed on the screen basket. The screen basket is preferably mounted in axial tension or with an axial neutral load.

  • Patent number: 5316685
Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating solids from liquid containing same comprises a cylindrical casing within which a rotor assembly or block having a conicalmesh rotates about a vertical axis with the mesh walls upwardly diverging. A liquid-solid slurry is introduced tangentially to the inside of the mesh at a top inlet. Stationary wiper arms inside the mesh remove the solids from the mesh as it rotates. Fluid pressure inside the mesh, pumping effect of the rotating blades, gravity force on the slurry and particularly tangential pump suction at the bottom of the casing, drive the liquid out through the mesh, while the solid material is expelled vertically downwards through a central outlet opening in the bottom of the mesh.

  • Patent number: 5308486
Abstract: A multi-deck filter comprising a plurality of filter plates arranged horizontally one above another which are held in parallel planes by respective frames surrounding them. A filtrate chamber and a sludge chamber are formed in each case alternately between adjacent filter plates and frames. A filter belt, which is moveable stepwise by a transport device, is positioned between two pairs of filter plates. The filter belt is unwound from a supply roll positioned outside of the multi-deck filter and, after removal of the dirt filter cake, collected by the multi-deck filter wound onto a collecting roll. A scraper, which contacts the surface of the filter belt, is positioned transversely and obliquely to the filter belt between multi-deck filter and collecting roll, for scraping off the dirt filter cake from the filter belt. An abutment positioned below the filter belt is associated with the scraper.

  • Patent number: 5277809
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a centrifuge for removing solids located on a cylindrical casing wall (3) of a rotating centrifuge, in particular solids precipitated in the centrifuge from a liquid-solid mixture, to a solids exit opening (6) by sweeping the entire casing inner wall (9) in the direction of the solids exit opening (6). In order to reduce clogging, it is proposed according to the invention that in each case the casing inner wall (9) is swept in strips up to the solids exit opening (6), during one sweep up to the solids exit opening (6) only a part of the casing inner wall (9) is swept, and after a certain time the entire casing inner wall (9) is swept by strips (11) swept sequentially in time.

  • Patent number: 5268100
Abstract: A manure separating apparatus includes a trough with angularly bottom surfaces that converge downwardly to a discharge opening. A drain screen is located above the bottom trough surfaces and includes somewhat similarly angled downward converging infeed and discharge surfaces. The infeed section of the drain screen is approximately twice as long and at a smaller angle to the horizontal than the discharge screen section. A manure/liquid slurry may be introduced at a top infeed end of the screen and moved downwardly along the infeed section of the screen by a paddle conveyor. Separation of solids occurs primarily along the infeed screen section. The slurry is then moved angularly upwardly along the discharge section of the screen for final dewatering. The discharge section is spaced above the trough bottom to avoid liquids on the trough bottom below to facilitate dewatering of the solids before discharge.

  • Patent number: 5264138
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fibrous suspensions in the wood processing industry and more specifically to a so-called drum cylinder, the basic construction of which comprises a vessel, into which suspension being thickened is supplied and a wire-surface cylinder rotating in the vessel. The drum filter is characterized in that the closure member of the drum filter has a channel for leading gas from the filtrate tubes through the compartments of the distribution chamber to the outside of the closing member. The method is characterized in that the operation phase of the filter cylinder is divided into five separate stages. In the first stage, when the cylinder descends on to the vessel, air and the initial filtrate are discharged from the filtrate components and the formation of the pulp web on the wire surface begins. In the second stage, filtrate is discharged with vacuum and the formation of the pulp web continues.

  • Patent number: 5238584
Abstract: An apparatus for separating filter cake from an endless filter web, and method for using the same, for use in conjunction with a stacked plate filter system and filter web extractor. The filter cake and filter web separator apparatus includes a downwardly sloping support tray and a wedge-shaped plow blade having a resilient scrapper and suspended above, and generally parallel with, the support tray. As contaminated filter web exits a plate filter and is pulled through the separator apparatus by the filter web extractor, the resilient scrapper dislodges the filter cake from the filter web as the contaminated portion of filter web passes between the plow blade and the support plate and displaces the cake off the filter web where it falls into a suitable collection container. The filter web exits the apparatus from between the plow blade and support tray having substantially all of the filter cake removed from the filter web.
