Abstract: A unitary closure assembly having a cap body that has an upper portion with a substantially conical drop dispensing tip including a ringed protrusion disposed around the base of said tip, and a lower portion that can be secured to an opening in a container. The cap body has a lid secured to it by a hinge. The lid comprises a substantially conical raised portion that is adapted to enclose and cover the drop dispensing tip on the cap body. The lid has a raised ring disposed on its inner side which seals the opening in the drop dispensing tip, and a ringed depression in the inner side which mates with the ringed protrusion on the drop dispensing tip.

Abstract: A spooning closure generally comprising a skirt a top, a spooning opening and a hinged spooning lid which is adapted to pivot from a closed position to an open spooning position. A locking means is provided, which is adapted to securely and releasably lock the spooning lid in the closed position. The locking means comprises a tongue and a friction engaging slot. It may further comprise an arcuate latch projection which extends at an acute angle to the spooning lid bottom surface and a cooperating keeper which partially defines the spooning opening and is formed by an arcuate cantilever. Also provided is a reinforcing web extending from the bottom of the spooning lid.

Abstract: A condiment shaker including a hollow body with an enlarged opening therethrough receiving a pivotally mounted lid for rocking between a closed position and a dispensing position. In the dispensing position, slots through the lid flange are open and provide transverse dispensing passages. Lugs on the container body align with the slots and move through the length thereof as the lid is closed. The lid is positively positioned and releasably retained in each of the two positions by cooperating abutment areas and a complementary protuberance and recess respectively on the container body and the lid.

Abstract: A container having a child resistant closure which is secured by an internal latch and is openable by application of opposing pinching forces to the sides of the container to cause the sides to flex inwardly and thereby release the latch. The closure is provided with child resistance by the provision of stiffening ribs on the closure which direct flexing in one direction to provide release of the container latch and by the provision of tabs which serve to distract the child's attention and encourage application of pressure at a position on the container which will not release the closure.

Abstract: A tamper-proof container for over-the-counter drugs or the like includes a cylindrical plastic bottle which tapers to a narrow neck. An annular angled depression is molded into the bottle neck. A two-part closure includes a cap ring onto which is molded an annular angled projection sized and positioned to mate with the angled depression in the bottle neck when the cap ring is snapped over the bottle mouth. A hinged cap is attached to the cap ring and has a plurality of tamper tab projections connected thereto via a like plurality of frangible tear regions. The tamper tab projections mate with corresponding tamper tab depressions in the cap ring when the hinged cap is closed. After the bottle is filled, a tamper-evident seal is adhered over the mouth of the bottle and the cap ring is snapped over the bottle mouth, enclosing the tamper-evident seal. The cap ring is then ultrasonically welded to the bottle neck and the cap is ultrasonically welded to the cap ring via the tamper tabs.

Abstract: This invention is directed towards improvements in snap hinge dispensing closures for molded plastic bottles. In particular, snap hinge closures of single walled construction are provided with means for positively aligning with the front of the bottle, and a relatively deeper thumb recess for facilitating lifting of a snap hinge closure lid. Means are also disclosed to prevent reverse rotation of the closure once positive alignment is achieved. Other disclosed features include a plug to prevent leakage of the bottle contents and means for preventing axial pivoting of the closure.

Abstract: A fitment made of plastic and adapted to be telescoped over the neck of a jar to facilitate dispensing of the contents of the jar. The fitment includes a top wall having a spoon or pour opening adapted to be selectively closed by a flap which is hinged to the top wall to swing between closed and open positions, the flap being formed with sift holes to allow the contents to be sifted from the jar when the flap is closed. The lower sides of the top wall and the flap are flat and, when the flap is closed, lie in a common plane so as to define a flat and planar surface for supporting and backing a paper-like disc for initially sealing the jar. A circumferentially continuous skirt depends from the top wall and engages a bead on the neck of the jar to hold the fitment on the jar. When the flap is closed, a lift tab on the flap fits into a notch in the top wall and overlies an arcuate section of the skirt.

Abstract: A child resistant container with a flush latched closure includes a container with a resilient latch tongue member hinged thereto, the tongue including upper and lower pawls forming a latch recess therebetween. A closure or cap is hinged to the container and includes a latch bar sized and shaped to be flushly received within the latch recess to prevent gripping access to the latch bar. The cap hinge is of such a configuration that the cap cannot be separated from the container body with the cap latched closed. The latch is released by flexing the latch tongue toward the container which moves the upper pawl out of the way of the latch bar and moves the lower pawl beneath the latch bar to expose a gripping edge of the latch bar to allow a fingernail or the like to be used to open the cap. The latch tongue is positionable in such a manner as to avoid use of the latch to close the container, and the cap and container body are cooperatively sized to seal the container without the cap being latched thereto.

Abstract: A tamper-proof plastic vial is rendered tamper-proof during transport to and from a specimen-receiving site. The vial comprises a container and cap molded together in one piece. The cap is inserted onto the container during the manufacturing phase and is secured thereto by a first destructible connector in the form of an arrow-like projection so that the integrity of the container is ensured until a specimen is received. Thereafter, a second destructible member in the form of a flexible one-way strip is attached to form a second destructible connection. The container carries an outer channel which receives a peripheral edge of the cap to establish a tortuous bacterial path and to resist accidental opening of the cap. The first destructible connection is created in response to a controlled shrinkage of the assembly during the cooling phase of manufacturing.

Abstract: A container closure includes a body for mounting on the container. The body defines two spaced-apart surfaces and a dispensing orifice between the top surfaces. A flow control device, such as a lid or nozzle assembly, is disposed on the body between the two spaced-apart top surfaces for being moved between positions opening and closing the dispensing orifice. A tamper-indicating member is provided over the lid or nozzle assembly. The member has two spaced-apart outer sections which are each attached to one of the body top surfaces. The member also has a middle section extending across and over the lid or nozzle assembly. The middle section is joined on each side with a frangible web to an outer section to inhibit movement of the lid or nozzle assembly from the closed position. The tamper-indicating member also includes a graspable pull tab on the middle section.

Abstract: A vial cap of plastic having a skirt portion press fit onto the neck of a vial. A transversely extending wall having a central opening is integral with the upper end portion of the skirt, and a sealing disc is positioned between the open end of the vial and the transverse wall. A plastic lid having a plastic hinge integrally connected between the lid and the skirt is provided for closing the central opening of the cap during storage. By the construction and arrangement of the plastic vial cap, the fear of aluminum toxicity is overcome and the lid prevents the accumulation of dust and other debris on the sealing disc while the vial is in storage.

Abstract: A spooning closure generally comprising a skirt a top, a spooning opening and a hinged spooning lid which is adapted to pivot from a closed position to an open spooning position. Two locking means are provided, one of which is adapted to securely and releasably lock the spooning lid in the closed position and the other of which is adapted to securely and releasably lock the spooning lid in an open spooning position. The lock to hold the spooning lid in the open position is a combination of a spooning lid tongue and a friction engaging slot. The lock to hold the spooning lid closed includes an arcuate latch projection which extends at an acute angle to the spooning lid bottom surface and a cooperating keeper which partially defines the spooning opening and is formed by an arcuate cantilever. Also provided is a reinforcing web extending from the bottom of the spooning lid.

Abstract: A closure of plastic, especially polypropylene, for the necks of containers, especially bottles. The outer wall (8) of the closure flares lengthwise of the neck from the top end of the closure down to a circumferential line (29) of maximum size and tapers again toward the bottom end of the closure. The bottom part (2) and lid (26) of the closure are joined together by a snap hinge (28). This snap hinge is integral with the bottom part and lid and is situated in their outer walls. The depth of the main part (26.1) of the lid (26) is substantially less than the difference in level of the closure between its circumferential line (29) of maximum size and its upper end. For its connection to the snap hinge (28) the lid has an arm (26.3) on one side. The active elements of the snap hinge are disposed symmetrically with the circumferential line (29). This closure has a lid of relatively small size and can be made with a two-part injection mold which does not need to have any lateral slides.

Abstract: Disclosed is a package having a closure which provides child resistance with optional easy opening and closing features. The closure is permanently but rotatably attached to the container finish, and is held on the container by snap engagement with the container or with an adapter which is separately attached to the container. The closure has a depending skirt which encircles a latching flange on the container or on the adaptor. A hinged lid on the closure has a latch which is latchable beneath the latching flange only if the closure is turned to a position such that the latch is aligned with a latch slot in the latching flange. Rotation of the closure relative to the slot, once the latch has been engaged through the slot, locks the lid against opening.

Abstract: A one-piece closure includes a bottom member adapted to engage over the neck portion of a container and a top lid member that rotates between a closed position where it engages the mouth of the bottom member and an open position on an integral hinge. An elongate arm includes a distal end hook that engages a ledge on the top lid to hold the top lid open but, when depressed allows the top lid to be opened. The elongate arm can only be depressed by using the thumb or a finger and the top lid cannot be grasped except be the area hidden by the elongate hook.

Abstract: The application describes a closure for a container, the closure comprising a first part to be mounted on the container and a second part pivotally connected to the first part to close upon the first part. First tamper-evident means are provided between the two parts and a catch is provided on one of the parts. The catch is movable between a first neutral position and a second position in which it can connect with the other part, the catch in its second position forming second tamper-evident means. The catch is preferably provided on the second part and it is pivotable between its said two positions.

Abstract: An injection-molded plastic dispensing cap providing a semicircular spoon opening through which spoonfuls of the contents of an associated container can be removed. The cap provides a hinged flap for closing the opening which is hinged to the body and movable between an open position and a closed position. The cap provides an inwardly extending lip along the periphery of the opening. A rib is formed on the flap to closely fit the lip along the opening when the flap is in the closed position. Projecting from the rib is a latch projection fitting under the lip to secure the flap in the closed position. The lip is provided with a central recess bridged by the latch projection. The lip and the latch cooperate to provide spaced and opposed latching portions which are relatively insensitive to variations in the torque applying the cap to an associated container and which are not adversely affected by removal of the cap from its mold while the cap is still relatively hot.

Abstract: Disclosed is a tamper-evident closure for a container having a finish opening and including a cap member hingedly connecting to a base member. The base member is threadingly engaged with the bottle finish, and includes an upwardly extending pour spout. A sealing disk is installed in the interior of the pour spout and is secured thereto with a rupturable ring. A pull tab is attached to the sealing disk and, when pulled, causes removal of the sealing disk, threby allowing access to the interior of the bottle container. The cap includes an interior wall which engages the pour spout with a snap fit, providing a liquid-tight and airtight closure therefor.

Abstract: A child resistant dispensing closure comprising a first part having a base wall and a peripheral skirt adapted to be threaded onto a container. The peripheral skirt includes interengaging portions that engage portions of the container to prevent removal from the container. The closure also includes a second part or lid connected to the first part by an integral hinge and having a base wall, peripheral skirt and a closing portion adapted to extend into a nozzle on the base wall of the first part when the second part is moved into overlying relationship to the first part. Snap lugs on the second part engage bead segments on the firt part to hold the second part in closed position. The diameter of the skirt of the first part includes a radial flange that extends circumferentially about most of the periphery of the skirt. The flange is connected integrally to an outer radially deflectable wall panel.

Abstract: A shake-and-spoon cap for condiment containers and the like is formed of a one-piece injection-molded body. The cap provides a cylindrical skirt having inwardly projecting thread forms for mating with the male threads of a condiment container or the like. Two flaps are provided for selectively opening and closing a spoon opening and a plurality of shaker openings. The cap is structured so that the exposed end of the cap is a circular, planar surface when the flaps are closed. A sealing land inwardly spaced and concentric with the skirt is positioned to seal with the mouth of a container. The interior and exterior surfaces of the end wall are contoured so that substantially the entire cap has a uniform wall thickness. Peripherally spaced, radially extending ribs stiffen the cap between the land and the skirt to resist deflection and to ensure that the flap latching structure functions reliably.

Abstract: A dispensing system for bottled water, having a vented fluid dispenser assembly secured to the neck of a bottle which is inverted and supported by a bracket. The vent tube extends inward through the fluid to near the bottle bottom and ends with a check valve. A concentric valve member located within a flow tube seals against a valve seat and is manipulated by the reciprocating motion of a sleeve which surrounds the flow tube. The valve member is shaped with varying diameters, to regulate flow rate as a function of its elevation relative to the valve seat. The outer end of the valve member is releasably fastened to the sleeve center.

Abstract: A snap closure with original seal safety is particularly suited for bottles with bulging rim areas on the bottle neck. The original safety sealing takes place by means of a release element, which comprises a pressing element which is bounded on both sides by weak points. The release element forms a portion of the circumferential wall. In order that the release element not be torn further than desired, the weak points proceeding in the axial direction of the closure reach only into the area of an annular bulge positioned on the internal surface of the circumferential wall. The release element itself, which has at least one corrugation, is connected with the circumferential wall by means of a film hinge, and can pivot by 90 degrees upon destruction of the weak points.

Abstract: A plastic closure having a lower part and an upper part that fit together, the upper part being connected to the lower part by a film hinge. The upper part has, on its inner side, an extending portion with projecting sealing elements which form, with the outlet of a container, a sealing connection. The upper part is additionally connected with the lower part in a pivoting manner by a snap hinge. The snap hinge is connected with the upper part by a film hinge, and connected with the lower part by a film hinge. For purposes of opening, the film hinge connecting the upper part and the lower part is bent. The closure can be placed or screwed onto a container with its lower part. The closure can be produced in a closed condition.

Abstract: A flap is hinged on a container closure to swing between open and closed positions relative to a dispensing opening in the closure. When the flap is closed, upstanding ribs shield the free edge of the flap. A lift tab projects outwardly from the free edge of the flap and extends between the ribs to facilitate swinging of the flap to its open position. The flap is held releasably in its closed position by virtue of the ends of the ribs engaging the side edges of the tab with a snap fit and also by virtue of straight sections of the ribs engaging straight sections on the free edge of the flap with a snap fit at areas located adjacent the tab.

Abstract: An improved child resistant closure for a container comprises a base fixedly securable to the container, the base having an orifice communicating with an opening defined by the neck of the container and a first engaging means, a cover having a second engaging means, one of the cover and the base having a deformable portion, such that the cover is moveable between a closed position wherein the cover obturates the orifice in the base and wherein the first and second engaging means are engaged for retaining the cover in the closed position, and an open position when the orifice is exposed for dispensing the contents from the container, the cover being moveable to the open position by deforming the deformable portion which serves to disengage the first and second engaging means.

Abstract: This cap is intended especially for a bottle or a container with a neck and is designed to be fastened to the latter in the conventional way by means of a thread or as a result of force-fitting and for this purpose has relative to the neck an outer skirt (1) and an inner skirt (2). According to the invention, this cap is provided with a pouring orifice (3) which can be closed sealingly and opened so as to ensure a flow variable on demand, as a result of the sliding movement of a flap (5) held laid against it by means of a slideway and fixed to the top (4) of the cap on the opposite side (8) to the pouring orifice (3) by means of a folded part (7) which is retractable and concealable as a result of finger operation.

A narrow slot of short length is molded near the periphery of the top wall of the snap-hinged cover cap opposite its hinged connection to the main closure. The sidewall of the cover cap includes axially extending parallel score lines from near its skirt edge to the ends of the slot to define a tab. Pressing by the thumb on the tab while holding the package in the same hand ruptures the scores and deflects the tab inwardly for ready access to an exposed edge of the formed slot; and pressure on the edge opens the cover cap. The deflected tab is held by an internal cam wall inwardly of the slot, which indicates that the package is opened when the tab is held in this deflected position. A second embodiment provides a hook and latch locking means between the main closure and cover cap opposite the hinge.

A cover attached at one end of the recess encloses the dispenser orifice and fluid passageway and includes a plug extending from the underside of the top surface thereof which is mated with an opening in the passageway to open and close the passageway leading to the orifice when the cover is open or closed to provide a dispensing and non-dispensing position. The dispenser can be readily operated to dispense a material from the container while the cap is retained in place on the container.

Abstract: A tamper evident closure with a snap-type hinge cap comprising a first part adapted to interengage with the open neck of a container and a second part forming a cap connected to the first part by an integral hinge. A first tamper indicating device is provided between the first part and the neck of the container. The first part includes a dispensing spout that is adapted to be closed by a portion of the second part. A second tamper evident strip in the form of a locking ring is connected by an integral hinge to one of the two parts and is adapted to be interposed between the two parts when the closure is closed with a portion extending beyond the periphery of the closure providing evidence that the closure has not been tampered with. In order to open the closure, the tamper evident strip must be torn away so that the second part can be opened. Tampering of the integral hinge of the two parts also provides an indication of tampering.

The base of the closure is provided with an upwardly projecting rib which lies alongside the lid or movable element of the closure when the lid is in the closed position. The rib impedes access to the lid and hence opening of the closure. The rib includes a resilient portion which can be manually engaged and flexed outwardly, away from the lid to provide access to the lid. The resilient portion of the rib may be curved inwardly along its top edge.

Abstract: The closure assembly comprises a first cap portion hingedly connected to a second cap portion adapted to be positioned over the mouth of an associated container and including an aperture to permit dispensing from the container. The first cap portion is arranged so that in one position it overlies the aperture to close the container, and in another position is lifted clear of the aperture to open the container. Abstract: This relates to a closure unit of the type including a closure member lockable in place having secured thereto a lever for effecting unlocking of the closure member. The closure unit has a tamper indicating feature in the form of a rivet projecting from the closure member and being received in a ring member releasably integrally formed with the lever. The rivet has been modified to have a blind hole opening through the underside of the closure member for presentation to the interior of an associated container whereby, should the rivet be severed from the closure member, the blind hole will open to the atmosphere and permit a venting under high pressure of the interior of the container.

Abstract: A closure with a snap type hinge cap comprising a first part adapted to interengage with the open neck of a container and a second part forming a cap. Each of the first and second parts comprises a base wall and a peripheral skirt. A pair of hinges extends between the skirt of the first part and the skirt of the second part to hinge the parts about a hinge line. A short strap connects the skirt of the first part and the skirt of the second part circumferentially between the hinges. The short strap is axially rigid and has its ends hinged to the skirt of the first part and the skirt of the second part, respectively. The radial length of the strap is less than the length of the arc through which the second cap part is guided for movement by the hinges to and from open and closed positions relative to the first part. The portion of the skirt of the second part to which the strap is connected is capable of flexing.

Abstract: A child resistant dispensing closure of the type comprising a cap member and a spout member. The cap member is provided with an exterior skirt, a top surface having an elongated groove formed therein, and an interior skirt. The interior skirt is provided with a cap locking bead adapted to engage a container locking bead provided on the neck of a container for rotatably mounting the cap member on the neck of the container. The elongated groove has a dispensing opening and an open area formed therein, and the interior skirt is provided with an interruption at the location of the open area so as to maintain the area unobstructed. The container locking bead is also provided with an interruption. The spout member includes an elongated body having a longitudinal dispensing passage therein and adapted to be mounted at one end in the elongated groove for rotation with respect to the cap member. The spout member is provided with a depending locking prong adapted for insertion into the open area.

Abstract: A safety closure for a container having a tubular neck surrounding a passageway having an outlet aperture for pouring contents from the container, the safety closure comprising a cap in the form of an inverted cup having an outer peripheral wall and an inner peripheral wall concentric with the outer peripheral wall spaced apart inwardly a short distance radially of about an eighth of an inch. A closure wall extends across the top having a closure tab hinged at one end for pivotal movement between an open and closed position. When in the closed position it closes an aperture opening to a central cavity bounded by the inner peripheral wall, the central cavity in turn opening to the open bottom wall of the closure cap for communication with the chamber of the container when the closure cap is in place thereon. The free end of the closure tab terminates at the peripheral edge of the outer peripheral wall and seats in a cut out portion thereof when in the closed position.

Abstract: A child resistant dispensing closure characterized by a closure member and a lid member which is mounted on the closure member for movement between closed and open positions. A peripheral edge of the lid member abuts an annular shoulder provided on the closure member in the closed position, the point of abutment being concealed by an annular ring provided on the closure member. In the closed position, thickened portions provided on the peripheral edge of the lid member engage in recesses formed in the annular shoulder. The lid member is adapted to be moved upwardly from the closed to an open position when a user applies with one hand a manual compressive force to a panel provided on the exterior skirt of the closure member. This manual force results in deformation of the panel inwardly into a slot formed clearly through an enlarged portion of the shoulder.

Abstract: A unitary plastic container and integrally molded, tamper-evident, reclosable lid, which lid has a recessed planar member, with a rupturable portion, and an integral closure member hingedly secured thereto. The planar member and closure member provide an initial double seal for the contents of the container while the closure member provides a single seal for the contents after removal of the planar member. Abstract: A bottle cap stand permits a bottle to be stored in an inverted position so that the fluid therein is maintained in the vicinity of the bottle opening. The bottle cap stand contains a collar having an aperture therein and a generally flat lid closure means for readily opening and closing the collar aperture. The lid closure means can be integrally connected to the collar. The collar is usually threadily attached to the bottle neck. The bottle cap stand is especially desirous for use with bottles or containers having viscous fluids therein such as hair shampoos, ketchup, and the like, so that the same can be readily dispensed therefrom.

Abstract: A closure system for threaded containers wherein the closure is of the dispensing type and is child resistant in two aspects. Interengaging lugs on the closure skirt and container neck are so arranged that a squeezing force is required to permit the closure being unthreaded from the container. A dispensing opening in the closure top is closed by a hinged cap that meets with the upper rim of the closure in a parting line. At this parting line both the hinged cap and the top of the closure have matching protruberances that require the squeezing of the lower one in order to push up or release the cap. The plastic material of the cap and the closure are sufficiently strong that a child is unable to flex or squeeze the closure enough to open the cap or unthread the closure from the container.

Abstract: A child resistant dispensing closure of the type comprising a cap base member and a cap lid member. The cap base member is provided with a dispensing opening, a slot, and a cap locking bead adapted to engage a container locking bead provided on the neck of a container. The container locking bead is provided with an interruption which is adapted to be brought into and out of alignment with the slot by manually rotating the cap base member with respect to the neck. The cap lid member is provided with a locking prong adapted to be received within the slot when the cap lid member assumes a closed position wherein it closes off the dispensing opening. The locking prong, when the cap lid member is in the closed position, is adapted to be engaged beneath the continuous portion of the container locking bead.

Abstract: A molded plastic cap suitable for large condiment bottles. The cap is of the type which are threaded onto the mouth of the bottle and contains an inner sealing liner. The sealing liner is compressed by the cap against the bottle mouth upon application thereto. The sealing liner cap includes a reinforcing bridge portion and flat circular land portion for press sealing the liner against the bottle rim mouth. The bridge portion includes ribs which are substantially flush with the land portion on the inside surface. The configuration of the cap assembly provides a structure which is attractive in appearance and is free of dimensional distortions.

Abstract: A plastic reaction vessel for holding a small quantity of liquid comprises a vessel body which has a body flange (4) surrounding an opening formed in the body, a cover, and a connecting strip (5) which is integral with the vessel body and the cover. Opposite to the connecting strip (5), the body flange (4) has a downwardly facing abutment surface (25), which is engageable by a hooklike extension (23), which is formed on the cover (6) and extends downwardly when the cover is closed. The connecting strip (5) comprises a hinge portion (12) between its opposite end portions. The cover comprise a cylindrical skirt, which is adapted to be inserted into the vessel body through the opening therein. A sealing lip (8) is provided on the outside of said skirt at that end thereof which is adapted to be inserted into the opening of the vessel body.

Abstract: A tamper evidencing closure for use on containers containing food stuffs and the like comprises multiple cap configuration intrically joined to a closure by a live hinge. A secondary cap is formed within the first with frangible tamper evidence strips and a secondary live hinge. A tubular plug depends from the underside of said secondary cap and is registerable into a dispenser opening within the closure. Assembly pins secure the cap to the closure and a annular rib on the tubular plug forms a seal around the dispensing opening when the tubular plug is in closed position and holds the secondary cap and plug in closed position once the frangible tear strips are broken.
