Patent number: 4770305Abstract: A bottle cap which comprises an edge, a crown, a convex top on the crown, a cone at the interior center of the convex top, and a projection on the edge. The bottle cap is constructed in such way that after the cap is put on the mouth of the bottle, there is a clearance between the apex of the projection and an aluminum foil covering the mouth of the bottle. When the convex top is depressed with the thumb, the cone is lowered to pierce the aluminum foil, while the cap is opened by pushing the projection with the index finger. The bottle cap eliminates the need to pierce aluminum foil with a finger or other object. Accordingly, the liquids in the bottle will not be contaminated by the finger or other object before drinking. This meets economical, sanitary and easy-to-open requirements.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1987Date of Patent: September 13, 1988Inventor: Yung-Fr Su

Patent number: 4534477Abstract: This bottle has a projection or "latch" from its neck, just below the thread, and along and near the lower end of that thread. There is a gap in the cap thread, that lines up with the "latch" when the cap is fully screwed on. The cap deforms when screwed on, passing the "latch" over the end of the cap thread and into the gap. The "latch" then resists cap removal. Only torque beyond the ability of a small child (or even requiring use of a tool) frees the cap. A second projection from the neck, a "flag", is breakable. It is below the bottom end of the neck thread, just above (measured along the thread) the "latch". The "flag" can fold against the neck, but springs out if released. It catches in the cap-thread gap when the cap is unscrewed, and is torn off or broken by forcible removal of the cap. Its removal or breakage evidences that the bottle has been opened.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1984Date of Patent: August 13, 1985Inventor: Herman Laub, III

Patent number: 4529096Abstract: A tamper indicating plastic cap for twist application to a threaded container neck comprises cap, body and a band interconnected to the cap by a plurality of bridges. Each of the bridges slopes upwardly in the direction of twist application of the cap to the container. A plurality of drive devices have co-operating abutments on the cap and band which are normally disengaged. The bridges flex as the band is snap-fitted over a bead on a threaded container shoulder in a manner which enhances the movement of the cooperating abutments towards one another as the band moves upwardly towards the cap. The abutments engage to drive the band with the cap to prevent breaking of the bridges as the band is snap-fitted over the threaded container neck. The bridges readily break when the cap is unthreaded from the container neck with the band engaged with the container bead. Such arrangement substantially facilitates the injection moulding of the cap because the band is significantly spaced from the cap underside.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1984Date of Patent: July 16, 1985Assignee: Consumers Glass Company LimitedInventors: Robert M. Patent number: 4473163Abstract: The screwcap comprises an inner cap and an outer cap. The outer cap is threaded on a container neck. The screwing action presses the inner cap and its sealing layer in an axial direction against the opening edge. An outer edge portion of the inner cap projects radially over the neck and is at a first distance over a projection on the inside of the outer cap collar. The projection only contacts the outer edge portion of the inner cap when the outer cap is unthreaded. Continued unthreading movement initially only raises the inner cap from the opening edge at a locally defined peripheral point through engagement of the projection on the lower edge of the inner cap outer edge portion, prior to complete raising of the inner cap, to eliminate a vacuum in the container. This reduces the force necessary for opening the screwcap.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1982Date of Patent: September 25, 1984Assignee: Ernst & Co., Inh. Patent number: 4433790Abstract: The invention contemplates a container closure, with a frangible cover preassembled thereto, such that both the closure and the cover have independent snap-lock engagement to the container-neck finish, in a single axially displaced assembly of both of the preassembled parts to the neck finish. The cover must be broken to gain access to container contents, so that any breakage provides a direct warning as to possible tampering. In the disclosed embodiment, the closure which remains after destruction and removal of the cover, has child-safety features, in respect of its snap-action engagement to the neck finish.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1983Date of Patent: February 28, 1984Assignee: Gibson Associates, Inc.Inventor: Royal H. Patent number: 4429803Abstract: It is difficult to detect whether the rubber seal on a vial or on a hypodermic syringe cartridge has been penetrated, because the rubber seal over the mouth of the container is purposely soft and self-sealing to prevent contamination of the fluid within the container. As a result pilfering of narcotics from such containers has gone largely undetected. To remedy this situation, a blister-like sac of a plastic film and containing a harmless dye is mounted within the mouth of the container between the rubber seal and the contents of the container. It is impossible for a hypodermic needle to be inserted through the seal and into the fluid within the container without puncturing the blister-like sac and thereby releasing the harmless dye into the fluid within the container. Thus, if the seal has been broken, the fluid in the container will be tinted with the color of the harmless dye.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1982Date of Patent: February 7, 1984Assignee: Butterfield GroupInventor: Ida M. Patent number: 4393909Abstract: An administration port (14) for medical fluid containers (10) is provided which creates a proper seal with a broad dimensional range of cannulas. The port includes an inwardly tapered end 28 which can flex outwardly during insertion of a cannula (16). The inwardly tapered end 28 works in conjunction with an inner surface (32) of the sidewall (18) and end (28) to provide a unique sealing construction, to minimize friction between the port (14) and the cannula (16) during insertion of the cannula (16) and to inhibit inadvertent removal of the cannula. Selective removal of the associated cannula requires relatively little force, however.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1981Date of Patent: July 19, 1983Assignee: Baxter Travenol Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Stephen Pearson
