  • Patent number: 6382441
Abstract: A closure assembly is provided that includes an outer cap with a skirt dimensioned to telescope over the open top end of the tube. An annular shoulder extends inwardly from the top end of the skirt and includes an aperture through which a needle may be directed. A laminated seal is bonded to the bottom surface of the annular shoulder of the outer cap and extends continuously across the aperture in the annular shoulder. A stopper is secured on the bottom surface of the annular seal and is dimensioned for sealing engagement in the open top of the tube. Outer circumferential portions of the bottom surface of the laminated seal between the skirt and the stopper are bonded to the open top end of the tube. The bond between the closure and the laminated seal is stronger than the bond between the tube and the laminated seal. Thus, the closure assembly retains its structural integrity after opening of the tube and can be used to reseal the tube.

  • Patent number: 5871111
Abstract: In the case of over-tightening of the closure-cap on a beverage bottle (through turning in the wrong direction) there is the risk that, due to the high internal pressure, not only will the thread jump, but also that the cap will be ejected directly from the container. In order to avoid this risk, the invention proposes a screwable closure-cap with security against over-tightening. This cap possesses a ramp element (3) on the end of the thread oriented towards the cap-base, said ramp element being able to engage with the thread-start of the container mouth in the case of over-tightening of the closure-cap. As a result, the cap-wall in the area of the ramp element will be forced outwards in the case of over-tightening so that jumping of the thread in this region will be facilitated. In this way, jumping of the thread on one side only--on the ramp element side--will be achieved when over-tightening is continued, so that ejection of the closure-cap will not be possible.

  • Patent number: 5839593
Abstract: A container cap having a base portion, a substantially cylindrical portion extending perpendicularly from a perimeter of the base portion to define an inner surface of the container cap, and an uncovered liner disposed directly on the inner surface of the container cap, the liner having an oxygen absorbent dispersed therein. The container cap is adapted to seal an opening in a container and to absorb oxygen within the container. Also disclosed is a method for removing oxygen from a container by dispersing an oxygen absorbent in a liner, attaching the uncovered liner directly to an inner surface of a container cap without a separate adhesive, and placing the cap over an opening in the container such that the liner in the container cap seals the opening and absorbs oxygen within the container.

  • Patent number: 5810184
Abstract: A fitment for use as a pour spout for a paper carton or flexible bag for liquids and powders has a flange which may be welded around a hole in the carton. A spout projecting outward from the flange is provided with a removable membrane integral with an inward projection positioned on the interior of the spout approximately midway of its height. Preferably the membrane is concave. A horizontally disposed pull ring is attached to the membrane by a connector so that pulling the ring removes the membrane by fracturing the tear line at the juncture of the outer edge of the membrane and the projection. A cap snaps over the spout and may be removed by unscrewing the complementary threads on cap and spout. A tamper-evidencing band frangibly connected to the lower edge of the cap skirt engages the exterior of the spout so that the cap cannot be removed without breaking the fragible connection.

  • Patent number: 5791506
Abstract: A display-type container for cosmetics and the like, includes a flat jar having a neck portion with an external screw thread, and a ring-shaped screw cap member that is mounted on and cooperable with the neck portion. The latter has an annular sealing lip, and a plastic panel member which is disposed in the ring-shaped screw cap member provides underside sealing areas or surfaces that are engaged with the sealing lip. Portions of the screw-cap member and panel member are disposed in overlying relation, the two members being centralized with one another, and forming a unitary closure assemblage. The arrangement is such that the sealing areas of the panel member are forced by the screw cap member, into substantially air-tight sealing engagement with the sealing lip of the jar. The seal does not depend on the engagement of the threads, or upon any incidental sealing therebetween, which may or may not occur.

  • Patent number: 5788101
Abstract: The invention relates to a container neck (10) and closure (12), particularly useful for foil-sealed containers. The neck (10) and closure (12) include complementary threads (14, 16) or projections and complementary tapered surfaces (18, 20) which are adapted to form an interference fit and seal the closure (12) to the neck (10) at a region clear from the lip (30) of the neck (10) and the crown (120) of the closure (12). Any foil seal (28) present on the container neck (10) remains free from contact with the closure (12) during application and tightening. Preferably the neck (10) includes a recessed lip (30, 32) further to protect the seal and to inhibit drop formation. An outer edge of the container lip may be chamfered to provide a pull tab on the foil seal. Additionally, the foil may be of a larger diameter than the lip of the container, so that it provides an overhanging edge of foil to facilitate the removal of the foil, but not of such a large diameter that it touches the inner surface of the closure.

  • Patent number: 5769255
Abstract: A plastic container closure comprising a top panel, a skirt portion, an annular protruded portion that is formed inwardly from the inner surface of the top panel and on the inside of a portion near the root of the skirt maintaining a small gap therebetween, and a sealing liner that is fitted by press-molding on the inside of the top panel, wherein a substantially vertical portion is formed on said liner along the inner surface of the annular protruded portion, and sealing performance is maintained by the engagement between the outer edge of the mouth of the container and the substantially vertical portion. Since the sealing is accomplished over a surface having a predetermined width in the up-and-down direction, the sealing performance is not impaired even when the top panel is deformed by the pressure. Moreover, favorable sealing performance is maintained even against shock that is given to the container at the time of fitting the closure.
