Patent number: 5439126Abstract: A one-piece plastics closure for a carbonated beverage bottle has a sealing ring which extends inwardly and downardly towards the closure mouth from its attachment to the closure body. When the closure is fitted the ring extends around the outer radius and over the annular top face of the bottle neck, backed by a stepless abutment and reaction surface of the closure body. The latter surface engages the sealing ring mechanically above the container top face to determine the fitted position of the closure and create a seal when the pressure in the bottle is low. When the product pressure is high, however, the effective seal is made between the sealing ring and the outer radius of the bottle neck. For that purpose the abutment and reaction surface is roughened, so allowing access for the product pressure to the back of the sealing ring.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1995Date of Patent: August 8, 1995Assignee: CarnaudMetalBox plcInventor: Thomas D. Patent number: 4781483Abstract: The invention relates to a device (1) for exposing a mass (3) stored in a container (2). Disposed in container (2) is a conventional follower piston (5), the dispensing opening (4) of container (2) being closed by a removable closure cap (11). For generating a vacuum between mass (3) and closure cap (11) there is provided a circumferential gasket (15) disposed between an outer wall portion (9) of container (2) and closure cap (11). For avoiding early wear of this circumferential gasket (15) and the resultant loss of its sealing properties, the invention provides that on removal of the closure cap (11) the circumferential gasket (15) is positively forced into sealing engagement with the outer wall portion (9) of the container (2) by a force generated by the removal of the closure cap and acting in the direction towards said outer wall portion.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1986Date of Patent: November 1, 1988Inventor: Willy Lorscheidt

Patent number: 4744481Abstract: A sealing closure for a container, such as bottles, jars and the like includes a threaded cap and a single-piece gasket of resilient material. The interior surface of the top of the threaded cap is provided with a plurality of radially extending ribs in the vicinity of its periphery. The peripheral portion of the single-piece gasket contacts the ribs, the cap being positionable over the rim of the neck of a container and in threaded engagement therewith to seal the container. The gasket may be of frusto-conical shape with a longitudinal sleeve thereon, the sleeve fitting over a central stud which is integral with the cap. The stud may be so dimensioned and shaped in cross-section, and the sleeve similarly shaped and dimensioned to prevent relative turning of the cap and gasket with respect to one another during opening and closing of a container with the closure.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1987Date of Patent: May 17, 1988Assignee: Poly-Seal CorporationInventor: Robert L.
