During this movement, the pull member also rotates 180 degrees about its longitudinal axis and is displaced about 90 degrees relative to its initial orientation.

    Abstract: A unique self-actuating apparatus, basically useful in a wide variety of different type containers; said apparatus serving to automatically bias a substantially flat lid or top cover member from a normally horizontal/closed modality, to an alternate vertical/open modality, via effect of gravity acting thereupon; by virtue of a weighted guide member hingedly affixed to the lid in a manner as to result in the desired function whenever the container is lifted from a rested position. Hence, when combined with a drinking-cup, the novel actuator serves to instantly open a lid by the mere raising of the vessel from the counter surface for a drink--and conversely, snaps the lid shut whenever the cup is returned to rest; thereby providing carefree sanitary and thermal sealing advantages.

    Abstract: A reclosable plastic container is formed having a cover hingedly attached to a base and having an interlocking structure such that the cover is held on the base when the container is closed. Release tabs are formed on each of the cover and base adjacent one another and having camming surfaces on each tab which extend therefrom toward the other tab. The camming surfaces on the tabs intersect in a fulcrum such that when the user presses the tabs together, the tabs rotate about the fulcrum to pull the cover and base apart. The camming surface on each tab may be formed as a ridge formed integrally with the tab. Reinforcing ridges, extending away from the plane of the tab in a direction opposite to that of the camming surfaces, are also preferably formed in the tab to provide structural rigidity so that the tabs do not substantially bend or flex when they are pressed by the user. The tabs allow a securely closed container to be easily opened by one hand of the user.

In this manner, force exerted against the upper and lower lips are substantially absorbed by the end members rather than being transmitted to upper and lower enclosure members.

    Abstract: A container having an upstanding rim running around the periphery of its top lid and a pre-cut dispensing aperture therein is provided with an integral pouring lip/drain surface between the container's rim and dispensing aperture. The container is also provided with an easy-open/reclosing element that is preferably hingedly attached to the container's top lid. The easy-open/reclosing element has a depending plug that is shaped complementary to the dispensing aperture. When pressed into the aperture, the plug initially seals the container and, if desired, is used to reclose the aperture after opening. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the easy-open/reclosing element is provided with a U-shaped flange that is shaped complementary to both the top lid's pouring lip and upstanding rim. When the easy-open/reclosing element is in its closed position, this U-shaped flange receives the container's pouring lip and rim and thereby protects them from dirt and dust contamination.

A removable plug normally closes a dispensing opening at one end of the container, the plug provided with a radially extending ear. A raised abutment is integrally carried by the end closure of the container. Upon rotation of the closure plug to a certain angular position, the ear strikes the abutment and the ear tilts away from the container interior to thereby enable it to be grasped and pulled to remove the closure plug.

The relative position of the cam on the cassette and the stop member is such that if because the shutter is already open the shutter-actuating member (42) is prevented from entering the recess, further movement of the cassette into the housing is blocked by the continued engagement of the stop member (40) and the cam (30).
