Abstract: A multi-layer coil is wound around a bobbin having a center pillar and a small and a large flanges connected to longitudinal ends of the center pillar. A winding space having a trapezoidal cross-section in a plane cut through the center axis of the bobbin is formed outside the center pillar between both flanges. To wind the multi-layer coil in this winding space, a turning position where a layer of the coil moves up to a higher layer is set by a position setter, and the turning position is automatically shifted layer by layer to form a sloped outer surface of the coil. The coil is wound in a shape fitting the trapezoidal winding space without reducing the winding speed. The space factor of the coil in the winding space is improved, making the coil compact in size.

In order to wind a coil on the spool, the spool is rotated with respect to the connector until the connector does not interfere with the winding bay on the spool. Thereafter, a wire is wound around the spool within the winding bay to form the coil. Once the coil is complete, the spool can be rotated with respect to the connector until a locking mechanism on the spool engages a corresponding locking mechanism on the connector. Thus, a complete coil assembly can be manufactured in one operation with minimal manufacturing steps.

Abstract: A tape wrapping machine is provided for wrapping a moving length of tape onto a moving length of hose that is moving relative to the machine and the length of tape with controlled tape tension, and lay angle during wrapping. An adjustable guide arm supporting a moving length of tape is mounted on a rotating shuttle plate, and is adapted to pivot toward and away from a length of hose between a first position and at least one second position so as to provide a plurality of angular relationships between the guide arm and the moving length of hose. A first tension transducer is arranged so as to support the length of tape and a second, reference transducer is positioned in spaced diametric relation to the first transducer. A reference signal from the second transducer is subtracted from a signal from the first representing the centrifugal force plus the tape tension applied to the first transducer. The result of this subtraction yields a signal that represents the tension in the tape.

Abstract: A taping technology capable of restraining an ill-wound state of a tape is disclosed. Chucking members of a leading chuck and chucking members of a trailing chuck have widths narrow enough to enter between flange members of a bobbin, and are therefore capable of grasping leading and trailing ends of the tape till the chucking members get close to a wire member wound on a cylindrical member, whereby disordered states at the leading and trailing ends of the tape can be restrained as much as possible and an ill-wound state of the tape can be therefore restrained.
Abstract: A method and apparatus (10) are used for manufacturing a wire structure wherein a wire (13) is three-dimensionally aligned at prescribed pitches. The method comprises the steps of providing one or more frame bodies (12) which have a prescribed thickness, peripherally of a rotary shaft (11). By rotating rotary shaft (11) about a rotation axis thereof, wires (13) are wound, at prescribed pitches, around frame bodies (12). Another frame body (12) is stacked on at least one existing frame body and wire (13) is wound thereon at prescribed pitches. The above steps are repeated to yield a wire structure having a wire aligned three-dimensionally and accurately at prescribed pitches.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for accurately applying a cord to a rotatable mandrel utilizes control of cord length, rather than cord tension, as the control parameter. The apparatus includes a mandrel with an inflatable diaphragm mounted on an outer surface of the mandrel. The diaphragm is selectively inflatable via a control valve and source of pressurized fluid for dynamically adjusting a circumference of the mandrel in response to a control input. The control input reads a tension in the cord being wound. The cord is positively fed to the mandrel according to a defined algorithm based on the mandrel's shape, circumference and rotational speed, rather than by demand feed of the cord. The apparatus includes a positive feed control capstan which is electronically geared. The apparatus further includes a cord-laying wheel which isolates radially directed forces from circumferentially-directed forces.
Abstract: A wire-winding device is characterized, by including a stand, a wire reel carried to the stand with an axis, a carrier with an axis parallelly arranged to that of the wire reel, a guide reel having a drum formed in a beer barrel with side-flanges and rotary supported to the carrier, an apparatus for movably supporting the carrier, and an apparatus for biasing the carrier in such a manner that a wire to be wound is maintained so as to be turned to the wire reel at a predetermined turning point.
Abstract: A vise for holding objects wherein the vise includes a vise portion having a pair of engagement jaws mounted on one end of a vise body. An adjusting shell is disposed in coaxial relation about the vise body and in cooperative relationship with the engagement jaws. The adjusting shell is rotatable about the vise body, and rotation of the adjusting shell actuates the engagement jaws between their opened and closed positions. The vise portion can be used in conjunction with a rotary module which is mounted to the other end of the vise body and imparts a rotary motion to the vise body about its central longitudinal axis. The rotary module employs a clutch and brake assembly that is mounted on a rotary spindle and housed within an adjusting shell that is coaxial with the rotary spindle. The adjusting shell is slideable backward and forward relative to the rotary spindle to engage and disengage the brake. When the brake is disengaged, the rotary module can be rotated either clockwise or counter-clockwise.

Abstract: A machine for applying one or more protective layers of material onto a tubular member, for example a pipe, in a substantially wrinkle free and continuous manner. The machine includes a brake tension unit for applying a constant tension to the protective material in order to neck down the material as it is applied onto the pipe, and a base unit for supporting and rotating the pipe. The constant brake tension unit preferably includes a conventional disc brake and a mounting arm for holding a core of material in engagement with the brake tension unit. Pressure applied to the rotor slows rotation of the rotor and the attached core which restricts the unwinding of the protective material from the core. Thus, as the material attempts to unwind from the core a preselected force is applied to resist the unwinding. The material is therefore placed under tension and, due to the nature of the protective material, the material elongates and necks down under the applied pressure.
Abstract: In a coil bobbin for use in forming a wound coil, a plurality of open portions are made to at least one of a first and a second flange which are outwardly extended from both axial ends of a tubular portion, respectively. The first and the second flange portions define a coil-placing region therebetween for placing the wound coil. The open portions permits insertion into the coil-placing region of an adjusting arrangement which is for adjusting an effective size of the coil-placing region in an axial direction of the tubular portion.
Abstract: A air-core coil forming system which comprises a sheath peeling section and a coil forming section. The sheath peeling section includes a rotatable cylindrical cutting head having a through hole provided at radial center portion thereof into which the sheathed wire is inserted, a blade portion for peeling the sheath of the sheathed wire, and a blade support member for supporting in a manner that the blade is brought into contact with the sheath by means of a centrifugal force produced when the cutting head is rotated, a motor directly connected with the cutting head for rotating the same, and a rotary shaft provided in the motor such that a central axis thereof coincides with the through hole of the cutting head and having hollowed structure into which the sheathed wire is inserted.
Abstract: An electric rotary tying device system used for tying fishing flies that provides an in-line rotational drive system contained in a rotatably, elevationally and angularly adjustable main housing. Fully adjustable gripping means are non-destructive and are used to tie regular fishing flies while a modified gripping means allows the tying of tube flies. A fully reversible, bi-directional, variable speed, low voltage drive means and rotatable in-line drive system is controlled by a variable speed foot switch to provide variable rotation to the gripping means. The foot operated control switch frees both hands when tying a fishing fly thereby providing greater control over the precise positioning and tensional wrapping of fly tying material. A plurality of accessory bores and a movable mounting member provide attachment points for various accessories.
Abstract: A banana shaped coil, including a convex (positive radius) surface and opposite concave (negative radius) surface is wound by applying winding wire against the negative radius surface. The winding apparatus is provided with an apparatus for sequentially engaging a trailing edge of the winding wire being applied so as to maintain it in tension against the negative radius surface. The device is disengaged when the winding wire becomes applied against the positive radius surface, since the contour of this surface naturally tensions the winding.
