  • Publication number: 20110114861
Abstract: An actuator with a predetermined failure mode comprises two carriers which are each moveable in a common direction. A detent is engageable to couple the carriers to move in unison. An electrically operated actuating device causes extension of the toggle linkage to operate the detent and collapse of the toggle linkage when de-energised. There is a prime mover for the first carrier and a return mover for causing return movement of the second carrier on the release of the detent. In an example, the detent comprises a pivoted arm disposed on the first carrier and positioned to engage a part of the second carrier; and the toggle linkage comprises a pair of relatively pivoted links connected between a pivot on the first carrier and a pivot on the arm.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide an electronic expansion valve, including a magnetic rotor and a screw rod, and further including an output shaft. The magnetic rotor is surroundingly provided on the output shaft, and the output shaft is slidably connected to the screw rod in an axial direction and drivably connected to the screw rod in a circumferential direction. Since the output shaft is slidably connected to the screw rod in an axial direction and drivably connected to the screw rod in a circumferential direction, the magnetic rotor does not subject to an axial force transmitted by the screw rod and rotates flexibly.

Abstract: A control device includes an opening detecting means 17 which detects the opening of a control valve 9 driven by an electric actuator 11. A control element 21 sets the target opening of the control valve 9, thereby to control the electric actuator 11 in accordance with a deviation between the target opening and the detected opening. In the case where a predetermined necessary condition containing at least a condition for the absolute value of the deviation to be smaller than a predetermined value is satisfied, power to the electric actuator 11 is interrupted to prevent the electric actuator 11 from generating a driving force. This reduces situations where the driving force to be applied from the electric actuator to the control valve fluctuates finely to suppress the progress of the wear or deterioration of the components of the electric actuator.

Abstract: Two designs for rooftop irrigation apparatus are provided. The apparatus employ sub-irrigation and wicking technology to nourish vegetation supported by the apparatus. The apparatus may be placed on outdoor surfaces such as roofs. The first apparatus comprises interlocking modules. The use of sub-irrigation technology enables the modules to sustain a wide variety of plant-life. In addition, the plants may be removed and replaced easily by other plants, including hydroponic plants and vegetables. The second apparatus is a tray that contains an array of wicked protrusions that may hold plant roots and nourish the plants through sub-irrigation. Both apparatus may utilize control systems to control the level of water underneath the vegetation. Excess water may be stored in an auxiliary tank for later use or discharged from the system to decrease apparatus load.
