  • Patent number: 4470576
Abstract: Opening and closing of a fluid flow path is controlled by a valve closure member which consists of both a sealing plate and a counter element and which is moved within its own plane to open and close the valve assembly by a crank rod. Spreading elements are arranged between the sealing plate and the counter element tending to urge these members apart and the crank rod mechanism includes a slide member which is arranged to move within a guide slot in the sealing plate and to also engage a circumferential edge of the counter element so that during closing movement of the sealing plate by engagement of the slide member in the guide slot, the slide member may also extend to engage the circumferential edge of the counter element to rotate the counter element relative to the sealing plate in order to place the spreading elements in position to apply a sealing force between the sealing plate and counter element.

  • Patent number: 4465644
Abstract: A carburetor has a throttle member in the form of a laterally movable slide controlling the size of the induction passage. At planar edge areas of the guide surfaces, the slide is sealingly and slidably guided on a surface extending normal to the induction passage. The slide is unloaded from vertical downward pressures exerted on the guide surfaces by an unloading mechanism controlled by engine manifold vacuum. Such an unloading mechanism can consist of a parallelogram lever arrangement which through a pressure chamber actuates lifting rails arranged laterally to the guide surfaces. The slide is supported on the lifting rails by roller arrangements.

  • Patent number: 4314688
Abstract: An improved gate valve for high fluid pressure applications has a housing with aligned inlet and outlet passages and a well intercepting those passages. A piston-type gate is slidably positioned in the well and movable by conventional means between an open position wherein it does not intercept the inlet and outlet passages and a closed position wherein it blocks those passages and seats against the bottom of the well. The gate is fitted with a special seal which includes a circular section seated in a circumferential groove in the gate located above the inlet and outlet passages and a pair of lengthwise sections extending from diametrically opposite locations on the circular section toward the end of the gate at opposite sides thereof, those sections being located transversely with respect to the valve inlet and outlet passages.

  • Patent number: 4306828
Abstract: An isolation and flow control valve in a furnace charging installation, installed in a discharge conduit of a storage hopper which may be alternately at ambient pressure for loading and furnace pressure for discharging, is characterized by a valve member which is caused to move serially in two directions during opening and closing. The movement is produced by an actuator mechanism including a pivot arm and a cam system and results in movement axially with respect to the conduit for seating and unseating and generally transverse to the conduit axis for controlling material flow through the conduit.

  • Patent number: 4294427
Abstract: A single valve element disc and seat gate valve has an in-line flow passage therethrough. The valve seat plane is inclined approximately 5.degree. from the valve stem. First and second cam surfaces are positioned outside the flow passage, and are inclined approximately 30.degree. from the stem axis so that the cam surfaces and the valve seat plane define a wedge for receiving the valve disc and a hanger supporting the disc. The valve seat is a frustoconical surface. The valve disc is fixed to the hanger by means for urging the valve disc against the seat at the center thereof in a manner to ensure an effective seal therebetween. The gate valve includes a back seal for permitting the stem seal to be removed and replaced while the valve remains in service.

  • Patent number: 4291861
Abstract: Gate valve having in-line ports has a closure member which slides in an elongated casing between an operative position between the ports to a retracted position remote from the ports. When in operative position, the closure has a seated or expanded position against the ports and a collapsed position out of contact with the ports. Movement between collapsed and expanded positions is accomplished by oscillation of a portion of the closure member relative to plates which seat against the ports as balls which are seated in detent depressions in the plates are forced out of the depressions. The same actuator linkage which moves the closure linearly also casues oscillation.

  • Patent number: 4089505
Abstract: In an oscillating valve in which a slide plate is subjected to a swinging movement between an opening position in which it is clear of a flow passage and a closing position in which it is inserted in the flow path, and, in its closing position, is applied against a sealing surface by a sealing force to block the flow path, a single drive device is provided to produce both the swinging movement and the sealing force and the sealing force is produced by moving the slide plate perpendicular to the sealing surface only after the slide plate has reached the closing position associated with its swinging movement.

  • Patent number: 4071221
Abstract: An absolutely tight valve is disclosed, especially suitable for nuclear installations where safety is of paramount importance. The valve provides a tight seal by means of a wheel having a set of projecting spokes, the wheel being placed over the shutter disk and integral therewith. Inclines integral with the valve body cooperate with the spoke ends in a wedging engagement, and a set of cup springs discharge the reactive forces and secure a tight seal.

  • Patent number: 4044993
Abstract: Gate valve having a closure member mounted on a swinging arm pivotally mounted for movement transversely of the axis of the valve openings. A wedge member carried by the arm drives the closure member in a direction parallel to the axis of the openings when moved longitudinally of the arm. An actuator pivots a cam which bears against the wedge member to swing the arm to a predetermined position in which the closure member is aligned with the openings and thereafter to move the cam to drive the closure member axially and seal one of the openings. Resilient members urge the closure member toward its retracted position and prevent the wedge member from moving forward until the arm reaches the predetermined position.

  • Patent number: 3970281
Abstract: A vacuum valve comprises a housing having an inlet passage and a discharge passage with a valve seat defined within the housing between the inlet and discharge passages. A valve disc is engageable on the seat to close off the communication between the valve inlet passage and the discharge passage. An extension is formed on the top face of the valve disc adjacent each side edge and a lever member has an arm portion at each side which engages through the extension and which is receivable in a groove defined in the housing above the valve seat. A valve drive member is connected to move the valve disc toward and away from its seat and during the closing movement it acts on the lever member centrally to cause the outer arm portions to move outwardly and engage into the receiving groove and to both hold the valve against withdrawal from the valve seat and to aid in its pressing down against the seat in tight sealing engagement therewith.
