Spaced Molded Portions Interconnected By Solid Preform Patents (Class 264/251)
  • Patent number: 6048488
Abstract: Multiple resin transfer molding is the simultaneous injection of differing esins in fiber preforms with or without a separation layer. The flow of the resins is controlled by varying the permeabilities of the preforms and the separation layer. The method produces multifunctional hybrid composites made of multilayered preforms and multiple resins. A fundamental advantage of the invention is the simplification of the manufacturing process.

  • Patent number: 6024904
Abstract: An antifogging window plate has a transparent film and a base both made of thermoplastic resins. Conductive lines and electrodes are printed using a conductive paste on one side of the film, which is then bonded to the base. One portion of each electrode is exposed as a terminal portion to be connected to an electric contact member. The window plate is made by injection molding with the surface of the film opposite from the printed surface being in contact with the cavity wall of the mold, so that the integration of the film with the base is effected simultaneously with the forming of base. Each contact member is subsequently fitted in an injection-molded void facing the terminal portion, or is secured in place at the same time as the injection molding.

  • Patent number: 6007655
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and pultruded product formed by adding resin coated fibers at each of successive heated dies having respectively larger die openings to build up a composite pultruded product in stages. Each successive pultruded layer is cured at an exterior surface by heat from the die wall and at an interior surface by heat from the cured product emerging from the previous heated die. By forming the pultruded product in layers, higher line speeds, and a higher quality product which is consistently cured throughout its cross-section are achieved. Hybrid composites can be produced by varying the fiber type and/or the resin type in one or more stages.

  • Patent number: 5989480
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a decorated molded product includes a first clamping device for pressing an insert film to a parting face of a fixed mold to enclose a cavity and an injection gate. The fixed mold has a vacuum suction port and the injection gate for a molten resin. A movable mold has a runner facing the injection gate and communicating with the cavity. The insert film is held between the fixed mold and movable mold, so that a pattern of the insert film is formed to a molded product simultaneously when the product is injection-molded. The insert film after being pressed to a surface of the fixed mold by the first clamping device is brought into tight contact with the fixed mold by vacuum suction, and the molten resin is injected from the injection gate to pass through the runner of the movable mold from a hole formed in the insert film to finally reach the cavity and fill a gap between the insert film and movable mold.

  • Patent number: 5624615
Abstract: Modular stone panels simulate assembled masonry, and are useful for decorative walls, retaining walls, facings for structures and the like. Precast stone-faced panels are made by setting stones such as field stone having at least one relatively flat face, substantially directly on the bottom of a rectangular mold. The stones are set in the mold individually while packing sand around and between the stones but not under them. This is done by sliding each stone laterally across the bottom of the mold, thereby packing the sand while substantially keeping the stones supported immovably against the bottom. The stones do not float on a sand bed and the sand between them is packed. Thus the stone and sand are less readily displaced by concrete poured over them to fill the mold. The concrete bonds part way into the packed sand, which can be facilitated by vibration, causing a liquid portion of the concrete to diffuse into the sand.

An impermeable housing, preferably made from a flexible polymeric material, most preferably a shrinkable tubing, contacts and encloses the bundle, extending between the end caps. The polymeric, impermeable housing contacts and compacts the array of fibers in the bundle to enhance axial flow along the outside of individual fibers, protects the fiber bundle between the end caps, and contains the permeated fluid and diverts it to a port or ports at the end(s) of the bundle. This hollow fiber separation device provides a large capacity, and is also low cost, lightweight, may be used as a stand-alone separation device, and does not have a high-pressure section which requires testing.

  • Patent number: 5338499
Abstract: A method for the fabrication of a composite structure made from a profile plate and concrete. The relatively lightweight steel profile plate is placed at the building site. At the building site the concrete is sprayed on the surface of the profile plate to form the composite structure. The profile plate can be sprayed with concrete, layer by layer, with each layer being allowed to at least partially set between sprayings. Thus, the inherent load-bearing capacity of the structure increases as the layers are applied and the weight of the structure increases.

  • Patent number: 5336460
Abstract: A hinged plastic housing and a process for making same wherein a hinge formed from a deformable lamina is integrated with first and second enclosing members during injection of the plastic material. The deformable lamina is placed between the first mold section and the second mold section of an injection mold unit before the first mold section and the second mold section are clamped together to form injection mold cavities for the first and second enclosing members. The deformable lamina at least partially extends into the mold cavity for the first enclosing member and the mold cavity for the second enclosing member as well as therebetween. The first mold section and the second mold section are then clamped together and a plastic material is injected into the mold cavities and in bonding securement of the deformable lamina. The resultant housing is then removed from the mold unit with the deformable lamina hinge integrated with the first and second enclosing members.

Abstract: A trim member for use as an interior furnishing in a motor vehicle includes a covering sheet including one surface having an embossed pattern, a first foamed body disposed on the other surface of the covering sheet, with a first component embedded partly in the first foamed body, and a second foamed body disposed on the other surface and/or the first foamed body, with a second component partly embedded in the second foamed body. The covering sheet, the first foamed body, and the second foamed body are integrally formed as a unitary construction. Since the trim member is constructed as an integral unitary assembly, it does not squeak while the motor vehicle is running, and does not have visible steps and joints on its outer surface.

  • Patent number: 5232651
Abstract: A method of sealing electric parts mounted in a bare state on an electric wiring board uses a liquid sealing resin as a printing ink and a screen serving as screen printing means and having apertures in the same pattern as the electric parts mounted on the board. The lower end of a peripheral wall of the screen defining each of the apertures is substantially brought into line-to-line contact with the surface of the board for screen printing. The screen has a recess formed on the rear side of the line contact portion thereof and surrounding the contact portion. These features prevent the printing ink from adhering to the rear side of the screen and the collapse of the sealing resin layer that would occur if the ink adheres to the screen rear sides.

  • Patent number: 5213748
Abstract: In a pre-molded package assembly, a thermoplastic ring molded onto a leadframe must maintain lead coplanarity. In this invention a plastic member of liquid crystal polmar is molded onto the leads of a metal leadframe. The plastic member is a thermoplastic anisotropic material which, when formed, has a flow direction which is in the long dimension of the plastic member and a transverse direction which is in the short dimension of the plastic member. Dam members on the leadframe help contain the plastic molding compound within the mold cavity during the molding process. A puddle gate prevents the formation of a weld line in the plastic member. Upon completion of the molding process, the dam members are excised from the leadframe to provide discrete leads.
