Abstract: Materials and methods are provided for producing preform materials for impact-resistant composite materials suitable for liquid molding. Interlayers formed of nonwoven, continuous fibers, such as spunbonded, spunlaced, or mesh fabric, are introduced between non-crimped layers of unidirectional reinforcing fibers to produce a preform for use in liquid-molding processes to produce a composite member. Curing of the preform provides increased impact resistance by increasing the amount of energy required to propagate localized fractures due to impact.

Abstract: To provide a vibration isolation apparatus which prevents a vibration isolation leg from being pushed by a resin material injected in a resin molding process and to prevent generation of resin burrs. Because a rubber notch 5055 is formed in a first molding product 5100, when the first molding product 5100 is placed in a resin mold 400 in an insert molding process, the pressure of the flowing resin material injected in the resin mold 400 through the injection gate can be relieved and thus first wall covering rubber parts 52 may be less pushed by the resin material. This reduces positional deviation of a vibration isolation leg 50 and sealing errors caused by deformation of the first wall covering rubber parts 52, and thus generation of resin burrs can be suppressed.

Abstract: Rubber burrs which are formed on a first molding product are set to the closer side of spaces of side surfaces. Therefore, when the first molding product is placed in a resin mold for a resin molding process, it is unnecessary to insert a rubber-burr portion in the resin mold at a predetermined position (at which protrusion rubber parts can be brought into tight contact with the resin mold for sealing). That is, the rubber burrs formed along the parting lines can be placed in a cavity of the resin mold. Therefore, since second rubber covering parts can be easily inserted in the resin mold at the predetermined positions and working time can be reduced, workability can be improved. Moreover, since the predetermined positions of the resin mold can be surely sealed by tight contact with the side faces, generation of resin burrs can be suppressed.

Abstract: Materials, apparatus and methods of forming structural components for consumer electronics devices are described. In one embodiment, ceramic fibers, such as alumina, are mixed with a thermoplastic, such as nylon, to form a composite material usable in an injection molding process. The volume percent of ceramic fibers used with the thermoplastic can be selected to improve the strength properties of the composite material. Pigments can be added to the composite material to affect its aesthetic appeal. In one embodiment, the composite material including the ceramic fibers can be used to form frame components usable in a consumer electronic device. The frame components can be load bearing structures that are externally visible or used within the interior of the device.

Abstract: A utility truck with arched reinforcing rods incorporated into the base of a plastic truck during molding. The reinforcing rods are held in place in a mold at a predetermined distance above the mold's inner surface by spacers attached to the ends of the rods. Plastic is molded around the rods, with more plastic provided below the rods than above them, so that, when the plastic truck is removed from the mold and allowed to cool, the plastic will contract to a greater extent than the metal rods, causing the base and the reinforcing rods to bow upward, creating a convex arch in the truck's base. The arch provides an inherently strong, bridge-type structure that substantially strengthens the load-bearing capability of the truck, yet requires less reinforcing material than conventional supplemental chassis structures. In another embodiment, caster base mounts are also molded into the bottom of the truck, providing a utility truck with a unitary chassis structure.

Abstract: A method for jointing a rubbery-core-inserted braid is provided. In the method, a mold made of a pair of templates is prepared, wherein the templates may be closed in such a manner that trenches can constitute a through hole into which the braid is fittable. The method includes a step of fitting an end of the braid into the trench in one of the templates, while fitting the other end of the braid into the trench, thereby approaching both the ends of the braids each other, a step of interposing a thermoplastic resin between both the ends, and a step of heating and melting the thermoplastic resin in a state where the mold is closed, causing the melted resin to penetrate into the ends of the braids, and solidifying the melted resin, thereby jointing the ends of the braids to each other.

Abstract: A method for producing a panel assembly is provided. The panel assembly includes a panel and a gasket adhered to the panel and extending along at least a portion of the periphery. A curable composition is applied either directly or indirectly onto the panel and onto a mold surface onto which the panel has been positioned. When being applied on the mold surface, the curable composition has a dynamic viscosity which is lower than the dynamic viscosity of extrusion materials. In this way, a better surface quality can be achieved without having to exert a high pressure onto the curable composition. In contrast to the known RIM processes, the curable composition is not injected in a closed mold but is applied onto an open mold surface by means of an applicator device moving along at least the portion of the periphery of the panel.
