  • Patent number: 6450499
Abstract: The present invention is an educational word game and method of playing same that may be provided in single or bi-lingual versions and that challenges players to form as many new words from a set of at least two base words as possible within a limited amount of time. The word game requires that the players define a set of rules for each game prior to play and by the random selection of round prize amounts and the letter length of the at least two base words, and thus the number and type of letters players may use to form new words. Base word letter length and prize amounts are determined by spinning a pointer on the board. Players fill in a game rules sheet. By requiring that two or more base words be used, the number, length, and sophistication of words a player may potentially make is greatly expanded.

The winner of the game is the first individual or team to completely mark off all the letters, numerals or other appropriate indicia on their score cards.

  • Patent number: 5772212
Abstract: A youth oriented alphabet learning card game is set forth in several generic-variants, the preferred embodiment featuring a special corner oriented arrangement of alphabetic indicia, in combination with a related key visual picture-pairing object illustration arranged centrally within the card format. Thus, on each individual card a different alphabet character is represented in both upper and lower case ("A" and "a" for example), preferable positioned upper-case immediately above lower-case. Additionally, the particular arrangement of card face graphics is such that it is essentially impossible for a youngster to hold the preferably rectangular cards in manner in which some cards appear confusingly up-side down.

  • Patent number: 5727788
Abstract: A deck of cards, comprising at least one set of twenty six cards. Each of the set of cards has two different letters of the alphabet displayed thereon to form thirteen subsets of two cards having the same two different letters thereon. Each card in the thirteen card subset has a picture of one object of a selected group of objects displayed thereon. The displayed object has a name in which the first letter is the same as one of the letters displayed on one of the pair in the subset and not the other of the letters on the pair. In a preferred embodiment, the two different letters are consecutive letters of the alphabet so that the totality of the thirteen subsets has all of the letters of the alphabet displayed in pairs of two letters each. In one embodiment, each letter is displayed in upper case in one location and lower case in another location on its respective card. The selected objects may be divided into four different groups of objects, such as animals, mechanical objects, foods and amusement devices.

  • Patent number: 5697615
Abstract: A method and apparatus for playing a game is described. Players select a defined number of consonant and vowel cards. Each player selects, in turn, a question card where the question card incorporates a letter which forms part of the answer to the question and a score. The player whose turn it is attempts to answer the question using his or her cards by laying the completed word out on a playing surface, whereupon if the player successfully answers the question, he or she receives the number of points shown on the question card. Alternatively, the score allocated corresponds to the number of cards used. Variations on the game include having blocked cards which may not be used as the originating point for new words unless there are two or less words on the table. The winning player is the one who accumulates a fixed winning score or the one who gets that largest score at the time that all consonant and vowel cards are exhausted.

  • Patent number: 5564710
Abstract: A multiple player word forming game is disclosed. The game uses a board, a cup and a plurality of cards. The cards are randomly transferred to and from the players. The players use the cards to form words. In the best mode, a game board defines a flat surface bounded by a peripheral wall upon which the cup freely travels about. A player begins a turn by spinning the cup, which eventually lands upon a card transfer space. The card transfer space dictates whether the player either draws or passes cards. The player transfers cards either from the deck or to a discard pile or to or from another player during a turn. Then the player attempts to spell a word by selecting cards in his hand and laying them face-up in front of him. Opponents may challenge the player's word. Any player who transfers all of his cards during a set becomes empty-handed and may not challenge words.
