  • Publication number: 20100327539
Abstract: A fixing arrangement for a rubber seal for sealing a rolling bearing is proposed which can be easily mounted in position by press-fitting and which prevents rotation of the rubber seal together with the rotary member of the bearing. A thick-walled fitting portion 3 and a protrusion 4 are formed on the radially outer portion of a rubber seal 1 reinforced by a metal core 2. The fitting portion 3 is press-fitted in a seal groove 22 formed in the radially inner surface of an outer race 21 at each end. The protrusion 4 is brought into elastic contact with a large-diameter cylindrical surface 23 formed on the outer race 21. Thus, the rubber seal 1 is fixed in position and prevented from rotating together with the inner race of the bearing.

  • Publication number: 20100295252
Abstract: A valve stem seal utilizes a multi-piece construction to reduce the required manufactured tolerances and/or improve the stress handling capabilities. The valve stem seal can include a first member or can which can be assembled to a second member or spring seat. The can and/or spring seat can have a plurality of axially extending resilient fingers that are biased such that when assembled the fingers are bent against the bias due to the engagement between the can and the spring seat. The fingers on the spring seat allow the spring seat to bend or move relative to the can to accommodate the loading of a valve spring on the spring seat. The use of resilient fingers on the can and/or the spring seat reduces the manufacturing tolerances required for the valve stem seal.

Abstract: A dynamic shaft seal assembly is provided including a dynamic seal for engaging a rotary shaft. The dynamic seal includes a mounting portion that is mounted within a casing and has an axially extending barrel portion extending from a radially inner end of the mounting portion. The axially extending barrel portion terminates in a radially extending leg portion which extends inwardly from an end of the axially extending portion. A generally conically shaped seal portion extends from an end of the radially extending portion and the seal portion includes a radially inner face engaging the shaft and a radially outer face having a stiffening bead integrally formed thereon. The mounting portion defines a bumper spaced from the axially extending barrel portion by a gap distance that is designed to prevent the seal lip from inverting under sustained high pressure or pressure spikes.

Abstract: A seal cover includes a cylindrical part which is fixed to an outer peripheral surface of an axle, a flange part which is opposed to an end surface in an axial direction of a housing, interposing a small clearance, and a deflector part which is opposed to an outer peripheral surface of the housing, interposing a small clearance. A passage through which muddy water or the like arrives at an annular clearance from an exterior of a vehicle can be formed of the small clearances, and the passage can be made long. Because an overlapping amount between the deflector part and the outer peripheral surface of the housing can be secured, the muddy water or the like which has been splashed by a wheel and flowing from an outer peripheral side of the housing to an inner peripheral side can be made difficult to intrude into a space.

Abstract: A sealing device is to be fitted at a side of a bearing unit in order to seal a gap (15) between a stationary race (11) and a rotatable race (10) of the bearing unit. The device includes a relatively rigid reinforcing insert (16) of disc-annular shape, and a gasket (17) of relatively soft rubber or elastomeric material, over-moulded or vulcanized onto the insert (16). The gasket forms two opposite peripheral sealing portions (18, 19) intended to perform a static sealing action against the rotatable race (10) and a dynamic sealing action on the stationary race (11), respectively. The insert (16) includes magnetized or magnetizable material for forming, at predetermined angular zones or fields, a sequence of alternate and/or spaced north/south poles, in order to act as an encoder.

The shaft seal has a mounting portion configured to be connected to a stationary housing and a seal lip having an annular sealing surface extending between an oil side end and an air side end of the seal lip. The sealing surface is configured to extend axially along a shaft running surface. An annular bridge portion connects the seal lip to the mounting portion. A plurality of webs extend generally radially between the bridge portion and the mounting portion to prevent the seal lip from being inadvertently unfolded during installation or while in use. An annulus can be used to install the shaft seal into a housing and about a shaft without the need for secondary operations.

Abstract: Disclosed is an improved sealing element for a regenerative heat exchanging apparatus, such as a Ljungstrom™-type or a Rothemuhle™-type Preheater. The sealing element is mounted to a radial wall to provide a secure seal between the radial wall and an outer housing of the heat exchanging apparatus and prevent leakage between the hot gas conduit and cool air conduit. In one embodiment, the sealing element includes a reinforced mounting strip that is used to mount the sealing element to the radial wall. The sealing element also includes a sealing strip that maintains a sealing contact between the radial wall and outer housing and a support member that inhibits over-flexing of the sealing element. A set of bellows is positioned on the sealing element to provide the sealing element with flexibility and resiliency so that the sealing element maintains contact with the sealing surface even when the heat exchanging apparatus experiences warping and/or distortion from thermal stress.

  • Patent number: 7354046
Abstract: Advantageous seal systems are provided that include a barrier member movable relative to a shaft to allow sequential engagement of resilient seal members, e.g., lip seals, with the shaft. Movement of the barrier member may be effected manually or through introduction of pressurized fluid to effect piston-like movement. The disclosed seal assemblies may include an automatic leak detector and may utilize such leak detection to effectuate automatic movement of the barrier member. The barrier member may be moved relative to the shaft while the shaft is in movement, e.g., rotating or reciprocating, thereby permitting seal maintenance without interruption in operation. As seal members are sequentially brought into sealing engagement with the shaft, the previously engaged seal members contribute to the sealing performance of the seal assembly, although no longer effective to establish a stand-alone seal with the shaft. Front and rear bushings may be provided within the seal system.
